  1. Beyond Tayler Scott, Carlos Penalver with a really good game at extended: http://www.thecubreporter.com/2012/04/21/penalver-mightier-sword Also, in the comments, Phil mentioned your boy Jeffery Baez was out the last few days with a left wrist injury. Thanks...wrist is never good.
  2. Lol nice attempt at being clever Mr. Wells. Len and Bob are awesome btw...just feel like throwing that I'm. In the booth they're some of the more statistically inclined guys out there.
  3. I really like Drew Smyly. Throwing the ball pretty well today for the Tiger. Mechanics are nice and easy. Only now showing signs of fatigue.
  4. LORD VITTERS! Yes, master? Riiiiiise. No seriously, Hurry up and break out. I wouldn't worry too much about Vitters for now. Given his surprisingly large increase in walks to start the year, I get the impression they're trying to get him to change his general approach at the plate. It'll probably take a while for him to adjust. Not worried at all...I openly expect at least goodness from Vitters. Love that he's been working more favorable counts this year because everything else might fall into place given the rest of his skillset. He's only behind Castro and Baez in raw talent as a hitter IMO...and like both he's tough to K and has a pretty, fast swing...Just can't quit on that kind of talent. I assume The weather is crappy and that's why Simpson isn't going? Something that might make it tough to get loose...hence they're using Loosen...ugh...sorry. Or maybe Simpson just can't go today.
  5. Screams reliever...Can I assume someone more interesting piggy backs with him? Probably not since interesting doesn't describe most of the arms in the system, but someone younger with a tick better projection maybe even preset stuff?

  7. Crazy to say that's not Prior-at-his-best good. Crazy to say that's not Strasburg-at-his-best good. I expected this post...It's true...I'm excited to see if he'll ever match '03 Prior in full season dominance. Prior 2003 is seriously underrated... I seriously don't know how freakin' Gagne won the CY over Prior/Schmidt that year... Don't get me wrong. Gagne was unreal that year and a closer can win a CY if there wasn't any SP who put up great #s, but both Prior/Schmidt put up great #s... Plus Prior was only 22 on top of that... *sigh* "What could've been...." Schmidt probably should have won, but sucks that that's pretty much the only fully healthy full season from Prior. The guys talent should be legendary, but mostly it's just a vague, painful memory. Never thought about this but there's a decent shot that all three of those guys benefitted from the muscle juice.
  8. Those were some fun numbers....Cubs are like 26th in OBP and SLG...I feel terrible for those who are worse because that's embarrassing. Team OBP isnt even .300...Or maybe I've forgotten in a minute.
  9. Turbin's a shifty running back from Utah State. Shifty isn't the word I would use for the 230 pounder. I kind of see him as a Shonn Greene clone.
  10. Crazy to say that's not Prior-at-his-best good. Crazy to say that's not Strasburg-at-his-best good. I expected this post...It's true...I'm excited to see if he'll ever match '03 Prior in full season dominance.
  11. Pedro Mart.....nope...Mike Mus...Nope (Damn you Carl Everett!)...Andres Galla-DAMMIT....
  12. Who is PJ Francescon and does he have a good arm? What Google taught me: 23 years old Short RH Built like a fire hydrant Not a dominant K rate in college last year Not a big name school (Trevecca Nazarene) Anything on his stuff? Oh and gooooooooooo Simpson!
  13. Seriously, the Rice Trio was a reeeeeeally big deal in the 2000's.
  14. Your former top 5 pick curveballing right hander got you down? Send him to Don Cooper!
  15. Crazy to say that's not Prior-at-his-best good.
  16. They can't hit a lick is their problem. Fortunately for them the NL doesn't really have a dominant team like the Yankees could be in the AL this year. Don't get me wrong I respect the talent on the Rangers and Angels but eh...Everyone talks about the Rangers lineup and I'd take the Yankees over theirs anyday on a blind, numberless throwaway. Plus, the Rangers' ace is still a pup in good pitcher years...
  17. +1 This gets my vote.
  18. That Yankee comeback was a-fword-mazing. I'll say it again...that team is nasty this year. It's ridiculous how loaded that lineup is. Since the Cubs won't make it I'm actually hoping for a Yankees/Phillies rematch.
  19. Good to see some semblance of possibly upside starting pitching in the system. Jensen seems interesting-ish, though I seriously doubt he's got anything more than the upside of a 3 starter. Right off the bat he's a short RH who isn't an uber athlete...OTOH if he crisps up that curveball and firms up his fastball...Yeaaaah, maybe I should just let these guys develop. Speaking of Tayler Scott: Tayler Scott: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 29 pitches (18 strikes), 6/1 GO/FO Again, I have to say he was my favorite of the arms drafted last year. Here's some video that was thrown up on Youtube of him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEaht3Aeruw Who is Jin-Young Kim and should I care? I smell bonus baby but no clue on age, stuff, or what hype he came in with. Also, I have yet to see the OTHER Baez in XST in a box score this year. Does he just suck or something?
  20. I've heard he hit as high as 94 and that his curveball in the long run can maybe become a plus pitch. Definitely agree that he might take longer in the early going...After all he's from South Africa and IIRC he has played more soccer than baseball. Really athletic though...more than anything that's what I remember taking in. Not sure if he also played American football (QB).
  21. Oh yeah, he's sucked. That said, he's huge, left handed, hard throwing, and athletic enough that he stayed healthy through a pretty radical mechanical overhaul. Even in his late 20's its an interesting gamble, particularly since he was such a touted prospect. *Note: This is all relatively speaking...relative to what Byrd "should" get...which is next to nothing. Morales would be similarly interesting.
  22. Was Jensen a HS draftee or a CC draftee? What did he do that has him in front of other 2011 draftees? Also, is Taylor Scott another XST guy? MIGHT be my favorite combo of tools, athleticism, and mechanics/skill of the arms we took last year, but then again have barely seen any of them.
  23. Franklin Morales, Justin Thomas, and Andrew Miller are the only LH relievers above AA. I'd take either one of Morales or Miller...especially Miller, who I think would be an excellent project for the coaching staff to take on. He's healthier than Gorz was when we picked him up, and at least as talented (really selling him short since Gorz had already torn his shoulder up)...THAT would be the type of deal I expect from an Epstein/McLeod front office. Boston did alot of work on Miller's mechanics last year and personally I liked what I saw, but since it was the early stages there were, of course, bumps.
