  1. Sounds very Cashner-ish, though everything (physical tools) seems a slight both down. Edit: More true if you ignore the 3/28 one. Why so different in a 13 day span?
  2. Did we take Wieters in the first round in that alternate universe? Yep and everyone's pissed it took him 4/5 years to have a 4 WAR season in the MLB considering his hype.
  3. Sometimes I just use word poorly...He is skinny but beyond that he's my favorite college passer. Really needs to gain some weight though, preferably muscle.
  4. I think Sam Montgomery is a top-5 guy and I don't think Montee Ball sniffs the 1st round. Also, Barkley and Bray probably go 1-2 (w/ trade ups needed given this draft order). Potential franchise QB don't slip. Montgomery is monster. Bray is made of glass, but otherwise he might be the most talented passer in college right now. Dew mentioned Murray, who I like and might actually be the guy who deserves the Brees comp that every nice guy short QB gets.
  5. Hopefully this is an adjustment period for him. Just saw Vitters' season line (.262/.310/.308)...the 7% BB is a step in the right direction, but the lack of power sucks. He's not even slugging .400 right now. OTOH at some point every year Vitters starts tearing it up until a pitch hits him or something, and he's a notoriously slow starter.
  6. An acknowledgement of them handing out picks, which like it or not most other teams get killed for...an acknowledgement of Wilson as a WTF pick (and yes I know he was somewhat of a riser)...Maybe someone questioning the idea that trading up for a DE who didn't produce much in the Big East (please no JPP comps either, it's laughable) JUST MIGHT not be "serious defensive help?" I know I know...I'm just being crazy. With studs like Darkus Butler and Terrance Wheatley coming out of their recent drafts, who am I to question the Belichick, right? I just don't see it with this draft of theirs, and I'd GLADLY praise a good draft if I saw it.
  7. This is the guy to sign in the offseason if you have actual plans to build a top tier rotation. A borderline true ace (if not there already) entering his prime. I want them avoid mid-rotation guys like Anibal Sanchez like the plague unless they land Hamels...Even then I'd prefer to just stay away from non-elite talent that won't be a relative bargain (as FA bargains go). Top two FA targets should be Hamels and Upton, easy. Great to hear he's interested already.
  8. That's a good point on the Ganaway/Greene issue. As for Belichick, he gets the benefit of the doubt because the Pats have been really good to dominant his entire tenure. When you win as much as he has, people assume you know what you're doing in pretty much everything. The amount of time their D has been garbage is dangerously close to the amount of time it was high end. I know as long as he has Brady they're a SB contender, but those days are coming to an end sooner rather than later. It's fine to like the TEAM year in and year out but to just hand him an A in the draft because he is who he is is lazy, which I guess shouldn't stun me about sports journalists. Their drafts have suuuucked for a whole now, and it's left them with the kind of defense they've been playing with.
  9. I thought the same about the Ganaway pick but then it hit me: - Greene is an upcoming FA next year. - Greene has a tendency to break a nail and get taken out. Him getting knocked out in Denver last year absolutely halted the offense. - Jets have two backs with speed for Sporano to revitalize like he did Reggie Bush (McKnight and Powell, both who do have running talent). They have an A/B back system with Greene/Ganaway as the As and the other two as the Bs. There should be good competition at the position now. I considered Coples an absolute coup at 16. Literally laughed to see him fall into Ryan's lap like that. Even with the character knock (albeit a limp one at best with any actual thought applied) there's no way a guy like that doesn't go in the top ten nine out of ten times. No clue why Belichick gets the benefit of the doubt...They haven't had a strong draft in years. McCourty and Chung are the only survivors amongst the many high picks they've used on DBs, though there's still hope for the injury prone Dowling. I don't even dislike Chandler Jones as a prospect but to trade up for him? At least he'll get to play with the best DT in the NFL in Wilfork, so he should find some lanes once in a while.
  10. Most definitely agree that the good ones let you know early in actions and athleticism. Athleticism is the absolute first thing that should be noticed in a prospect. Unfortunately it's a very subjective process and it requires an eye that's seen a ton of it.
  11. Definitely agreed they did well for themselves. Chapman was a good DT to pick for a team making the switch to a 3-4. Nice sized, well coached DT prospect who can hand either system. Another draft that got less love than the Pats based on the solely on them being the Pats. Nice for the Colts to walk away with the two top TEs...particularly since Fleener can be an all rounder while Allen got to be SEVERELY underrated (really a natural pass catcher) as the draft process got moving.
  12. V, thanks again. The more I read about Wells the more I'm confident in my Jake Westbrook comp for him. Will you be doing these often?
  13. they must have missed last year. Or the past decade minus 2009.
  14. I think the Bills quietly killed. Gilmore was my favorite all around CB in the draft and Glenn was a steal, giving them arguably the best 1-2 combo in the draft. Like all of their players after that, even if they did trade up for Graham. Really surprised they didnt get more love by the "experts," because through the 5th they kill and their last two aren't bad either. SI gave the Pats an A....fuxkin yuch...The Jets, Raiders, or Bengals pick up Wilson in the second and give away a few mid round picks early on and they get absolutely lambasted for it. Bequette is alright, but the only real solid hit they got IMO was Hightower (an awesome player). Dennard's talent was nice to pick up in the 7th, but he also hit a cop a week before the draft...Another pick any other franchise gets killed for...they get points...It's so strange. Anyway, if Fitzpatrick wasn't basically a watered down Matt Schaub (very good mid tier QB) they might be the favorite in the East. Instead all their really strog offseason has done is made them a team to watch. Also stunned at how the Jets' drsft gets described as solely boom or bust. Davis is a solid LB prospect easy, and a strong 3rd round pick this year. Coples was and is the most talented pass rusher in the draft (really like Irvin and Perry as well), and EVERYONE had Hill in the first and loved him until he became a Jet and only his boom/bust quality stands out. If the Pats draft gets an A I don't know how 1) everyone doesn't get an A and 2) a 1-3 scombo (and they did really well in 6-7) of Coples/Hill/Davis doesn't get more love. Can't fn wait 'tip the games start...Really think Coples is going to be a stud. Stunned that guy made it to 16 with Peppers measurables.
  15. Matt Garza is the man. Not that that's a good lineup, but he does what a top pitcher should do against a lineup like that in late April. Also like Dolis' arm a bit.
  16. Well at least Simpson hit 91 and picked up a couple of K's. I completely forgot about Brett Wallach, not that that is hard to do. Good to hear Cates held velocity. Also good to hear that his curve did some work earlier because supposedly his changeup was his #2 pitch.
  17. Cubs booth guys are legitimately amongst the best and most modern in baseball.
  18. Here's hoping Simpson breaks his suck streak.

  20. I think the Cardinals had a surprisngly good draft....Massie was a steal of course...I think Lindley was a top 5 QB in this draft....got some secondary help wih a great athlete in Bethiel and Fleming earlier....Potter was a good 7th round grab...Good for them.
  21. Good to know he's still pitching...I liked him out of HS because he was a RH who threw a decent changeup. Also, thanks for those notes.
  22. Wow Garza on the ML mound...Cates in Daytona...Wells/Burke in Peoria....Cubs throwing some good arms out there today. Any chance Wells/Burke sees Daytona this year? Cates sees AA?
  23. Well that was fun...The Jets might have has their best draft in years....Allen in the 7th was nice as a name brand pick up.
  24. Sinking feeling in stomach...think both Gausman and Appel are gone by 6 as it stands right now. Gausman for sure. Yep...highly depressing...Looks like I'll have to get familiar with the HS guys...Gausman might go first. I do like Wacha more than most...ish.
