  1. Hey maybe Baez will get a few more AB's against some advanced pitching now. Fortunately though, it sounds like the injury is nothing to worry about. Starlin and Rizzo are irreplaceable on this team (I trust Barney at SS, but that opens up 2B).
  2. I caught a bit of that as well. I came away very impressed with the changeup. In this very early stage, my top 3 are 1) Manaea 2) Appel 3) Frazier
  3. That's a fun sentence.
  4. He's on the 40 man, so he was always going to be in big league camp this year. I think it got lost in the shuffle when Baez came with a non-roster invitee announcement and Soler got no such thing because he's already rostered. sweet pics btw
  5. are you sure? It's 9:18 central and I see nothing on MLB Network for the next 12 hours about 30 clubs in 30 days. It's part of MLB Tonight.
  6. I want to say he was a closer and shortstop.
  7. I'll throw out a guess and say one or both of the Weeks brothers is on the list.
  8. Sarcasm from people telling Garza that in 2008? I don't get it.
  9. Between the AFL, the pre convention camp, and this, they are certainly pushing him. Where is Adrian Cardenas on this list?
  10. Yep. I feel for the Mets here and think it should be protected, but I'm pretty sure it won't be. Why would you feel for the Mets? You have to be in the top 10 and they are 11th so what do they have to complain about other than being really close to having had the pick be protected. And why "should" it be protected if the CBA specifically states it won't and was written for a purpose in a way to change the previous rule where it would have been. If anything it is doing the Mets a favor by pushing them toward not signing a guy who they probably really shouldn't be spending a lot of money on anyway considering the current state of their team. I'm not losing any sleep over it, but it's pretty crappy for them that they lose their protected pick because another team couldn't sign a player. I disagree with it, which is where that "should" came from. You are correct, and I agree, it's written in a way that the Mets will likely lose this battle.
  11. Yep. I feel for the Mets here and think it should be protected, but I'm pretty sure it won't be.
  12. Stewart's $2 million isn't guaranteed as far as I know. If he doesn't make the team out of ST, he isn't owed anything. Heck, if Chisenhall is brought in, they may agree to part ways before the spring even starts if he feels he can catch on with another team. Looking back, my post doesn't have much to do with what you asked. I would say yes to the DFA. Stewart wasn't a free agent like I originally thought, so what I said above doesn't make sense.
  13. As Kyle said, from a pure WAR standpoint, Hairston isn't much of an upgrade over Campana. However, with both DeJesus and Schierholtz needing partners, it makes much more sense to have Hairston and Sappelt as the backup outfielders. Can't complain about the money. Very nice deal.
  14. I would rather DFA Lendy or Chris Rusin, but our outfield will get crowded if Hairston or Bourn are brought in.
  15. It really bothers me that people like Pedro Gomez are deciding this. Barry Larkin, on the other hand, is sounding very logical on Baseball Tonight right now.
  16. You are missing Castillo and have four outfielders, but yeah, that's a good team. Not quite Reds level, but very respectable. I wonder if Soriano would be traded in that scenario, or if they do like Schierholtz enough to start him. We still haven't heard much about him, though likely not even the front office knows what his role will be.
  17. I'm for adding Bourn. But I see that there is value in the pick and what it allows hou to do. I'm not sure if trading DeJesus, and adding Crisp, while keeping the pick, isn't the best solution for us. The second round pick most definitely has value, especially with where we will be picking. However, signing Bourn would allow us to trade someone like DeJesus right now and likely get decent value, as you mentioned. That softens the blow of losing the pick right there. I could live with Bourn for 5 years, would love him for 4. If this happens though, we have to be a real threat by 2014, which judging by Sanchez/Jackson and the interest in Bourn, that is Theo's goal.
  18. Alcantara. I think he belongs in the top 10. Sorry, can't read. I'd go Alcantara/Torreyes/Wells
  19. Probably. I think Olt is a little overrated as a prospect and won't be a star, but for one year left of Garza, I would. Not real excited about trying Stewart again.
  20. Until it's a prospect. We can lap the market on Concepcion or Soler, and that's just pure coolness. There is a large difference between $6 million spread over 5 years, $30 million spread over 9 years, and, say, $80-$100 million over 5 years.
  21. I am so confused. Whether Towers liked him or not, Bauer was a legitimate trade piece, and this is what he gets?
  22. And they're going after Sanchez? Yeesh. I can't imagine other teams will be thrilled with the Dodgers if they don't sign Ryu. They bid an obscene amount, then turn around and sign the two top domestic free agent pitchers (if Sanchez signs).
  23. If I'm not mistaken, most of Crawford's recent problems have been because of arm injuries. He may have had a hamstring injury in 2011, but I don't think we should automatically make Crawford comparisons.
  24. I don't necessarily hate this deal for the Angels, but Hanson is broken.
  25. I'm guessing the position and extremely sexy K:BB numbers have something to do with that. Also, I don't think I had ever seen Puig's numbers. Dang, though we very well might have been the highest bidder. Anyway, judging by the numbers, it looks like Alvarez has the hit tool. If he can play a legit CF, and maybe even if he can't, it might be time to overpay.
