    I think that's a pretty good comparison. Jackson doesn't have the raw speed or power of Young, but I could see Jackson putting up some 2008 and 2011-2012 Chris Young seasons. Not super exciting and far from the best player on a really good team, but still worthwhile.

    Over 600 PA's, that is 180 K's. It would take a .357 BABIP to hit .250. To answer the question, I think it's possible. He clearly sees enough pitches to draw quite a few walks over a full season. Being a plus defender would certainly help. I don't think he'll ever hit .250, but that doesn't mean he can't start, either.

    Rogers doesn't have huge splits and Sveum seems more willing to start Vitters against bad teams. It wouldn't surprise me if Vitters is in the lineup tonight.

    Well, I'll just be happy that Brett put the ball in play against Chapman, let alone a solid double. Also, Castillo's foot is apparently hurt, so it's probably either Clevenger or Mather who would've taken the AB. Neither is that appealing.

    Since the odds of getting hits against Chapman are so low, doesn't that mean Jackson trying to steal 3rd was the right thing to do? Sac flies and wild pitches come into play then.

    Is he definitely playing in the AFL? As davell said, he's well on his way to. McLeod said if he plays well at Peoria, he's likely in.

    Does the bat noise sound like the former Braves' broadcasts on TBS? That always sounded weird to me.

    I'll nit pick a little on this. I think the team at the top is good, but I wouldn't want to be without Theo. For me, he's the guy with the ties to the World Series championships. Call me old fashioned but the fact that Theo was a part of 2 WS champs plays a big role in his validity as the captain of the Cubs ship. We're betting he can reproduce that success. None of the current Cubs overhaul even happens without Theo, and Theo doesn't happen without his prior success in Boston. Jed has ties to the championships as well. At least from rankings, he and McLeod turned around the Padres farm pretty quickly. Jed + McLeod would still make me very excited. I'm not sure what you mean by saying none of this happens without Theo. Are you saying Jed wouldn't be here without Theo? I can buy that, but I meant what I said as more of a compliment to Jed than it being a realistic alternative.

    I'm a pretty big fan of Jed. Even if we didn't have Theo, I'd be very confident in the plan going forward.

    What in the world does eating contracts have to do with Kenney? Rogers realizes he didn't sign those players, doesn't he?

    Yeah, there is still some hope and intrigue there, but those K/BB rates without a real good hit tool doesn't make me real excited about him at the moment. It's also important to remember he's not a SS, and might even be able to handle the left side of the infield. It's quite possible he's a RFer. This is for Lake, obviously. Not Almora.

    Amaya, Almora, Candelario, and Vogelbach is a sweet 1-4 offensively.

    Brett Jackson is a handsome, handsome man. Anyway, I just pray he can get that K% in the mid 20% range. It's easy to see why we were all so excited about him when you watch him on defense and when he puts the ball in play. He's got such an interesting skill set.

    I don't believe so, but I could be wrong. Law was one of Starlin's earliest and biggest supporters as a prospect.

    A domed stadium costs more than a couple million dollars.

    Yeah I agree with TT that it might be more xenophobia than racism. Latin players, at least on the Cubs, tend to have the "lazy" and "mentally out of it" descriptions thrown around more. But seriously, I get that Starlin has made more mistakes than Rizzo, but when Starlin forgot the outs in SF when he wouldn't have turned the DP anyway and didn't cost the Cubs anything, it was a HUGE deal. Rizzo forgot the outs and costed the Cubs an out, and literally nothing was made of it. Soriano didn't run out of the box that time he hit a hard liner to third that the fielder dropped, but still threw to first. He would've been out by 50 ft had he run, but the media turned it into this huge thing. A few games later a Cubs player (I forget who) hit a little dribbler in front of the plate and was tagged out without leaving the box. Nothing was made of it. Castro and Soriano are clearly held to different standards by the media and a lot of fans.

    To go along with the Vitters stuff, I don't like how much playing time Castillo is getting.

    Anthony Rizzo is incredibly lucky to have Starlin on the same team and share the "building block" title with to take the heat off him when he makes a mistake. Anthony forgets the outs and gets doubled off in LA, not one word. Starlin makes a mistake, and every Cubs writer goes wild with it. Starlin makes an error, people claim he can't focus. Rizzo makes an error, that's okay, he's young. It's also funny how Starlin's patience, or lack of, always is talked about, yet he has a higher BB% than Rizzo since his callup in June. I do love them both, but it gets annoying that some people seem to have grown tired of Starlin, but Rizzo can do no wrong. Everyone needs to remember Starlin is STILL the youngest player on the team and is incredibly exciting. BTW, unless you're talking about roided up Bonds, you can't really build around one player in the sport of baseball and be successful.

    His entire career up to this point has been filled with shockingly fast promotions. And he's not even going to play SS right away? Like they think he'll be a big bat in their lineup at this stage of his career?
