  1. I just can't imagine Ricketts forking over the necessary up front money to allow Theo to talk to Tanaka. I'm not letting myself get my hopes up on this one. If we're going spend a lot on one player, Choo or Ellsbury seem much more likely.
  2. Was watching an MLB Network interview with Votto, and he said his two favorite stats to look at are WAR and OPS. He spoke very intelligently about the ways to judge players and how he'd rate his seasons. Has to drive him crazy when Dusty and some Reds fans bitch about him being too patient.
  3. Even though I preferred the two pitchers, stories like this make me relieved the Cubs picked Bryant.
  4. Judging by some of his old quotes, I don't know if Cashner fully understands that if a team trades you, it doesn't automatically mean they don't like you as a player and don't believe in you. In this case, he was the main piece for a player that is well known to be loved by Theo and Jed. But you are right, most guys probably think along the same lines as Cashner and use it as motivation. Whatever works, I suppose.
  5. Bryant is 2-2 with a double and HBP already. Even with all of the IBB's in college, I thought he'd put up some great walk numbers early on, but I also wasn't expecting him to rack up this many hits. We know that patience is in there, so seeing this side of him is pretty exciting.
  6. I saw on the comments at bleachernation that Bryant's girlfriend tweeted he's going to the AFL.
  7. His outfield defense was terrible. I don't know that he's supposed to be bad at 1B.
  8. Rizzo better watch out.
  9. Bryant continues to mash. 2/4 with a double and no K's so far. Vogelbach has 3 BB's through 6 innings.
  10. Does Edwards start next season at Tennessee? He won't have many innings in A+, but has been pretty dominant in his short starts. He turns 22 in a couple weeks.
  11. We aren't allowed to make pixie dust jokes until next season at least.
  12. Lake ran a long ways to catch that flyball last inning. He's slowly making me a believer on offense and in CF.
  13. I was just happy to see he got on base via a walk or hit.
  14. That's fun to see. I'm putting Bryant and Soler as locks to be playing. Baez, though much more MLB ready than I thought he'd be at this point, will probably go somewhere to get reps at other positions. Almora could have sneaked on the roster, and Vizcaino was mentioned as a possibility by the FO. That would be a lot of position players when five different organizations send players to one team, but box scores will still be pretty fun to follow well into November for Cubs fans.

    Castro

I don't take it that way. I doubt the FO would be offended if he goes back to being the player he was instead of the steaming pile he's been this year. It's time to abandon whatever they tried to do with him.
  16. Never in my wildest dreams did I think he'd be this good in his first (and what will end up his last) look at AA. Wow.
  17. Personally, I'd be surprised if Lake has an everyday spot on opening day. Sweeney in LF or CF, Schierholtz in RF, and someone from the Granderson/Ellsbury/Choo/Cruz group in LF or CF would be my guess. Lake could be the 4th outfielder and platoon partner for one of those spots. Would need another righty outfielder on the bench as well (Vitters?).
  18. It's worth pointing out that Wieters didn't even play in 2007 after he was drafted and Posey didn't have time to play in high-A the year he was drafted. Bryant has a head start on both.
  19. So Kris Bryant is pretty good.
  20. I can't blame Dale for taking Castro out. You can tell he's trying to make up for his shitty hitting by ranging far on pop ups but he's got to either let Lake catch that or not assume the runner won't be advancing when he's that far away from the infield. You can't have that. Still, I'm going to be annoyed when he's roundly boo'd at the convention and all of the fans that will claim they're done with him.
  21. Good so far. 95-96 with the fastball, nasty 81-84 mph curve, and throwing strikes.
  22. We're talking about it being inexcusable to not compete for a playoff spot until 2015, not what their record was last year. Did I read the McLeod quote wrong? He basically said tough [expletive], we won't be in the playoffs in 2015 either, not when we have to compete with the Pirates AND the Reds He didn't say 'no' to the question. He was just being respectful to the other teams in the division.
  23. His reputation is [expletive] right now (and was already pretty bad before this season); I wouldn't mind trading him either (which depresses the hell out of me), but I just don't think it's likely that the Cubs would get value back that outweighs the chance of bounceback (which, right now, holds more need/value to the Cubs than other teams based on what seems to be the perception of Castro). Was his reputation bad before this season? I mean, among the national media and idiot fans who only remember the Bobby V incident and forgetting the outs or whatever, maybe. But for the people who actually matter, like front office personnel, I'll bet his reputation was and still is pretty good.
