  1. My final guess is that tomorrow we learn Sveum keeps his job while Rowsen and Deer get fired. Not sure about Bell. The infield defense was good and he seems to work hard with the shifts, but he had some ill advised sends at 3rd base.
  2. Rondon is throwing some serious gas right now. No fastballs below 97 mph with lots of 98 and touched 99.
  3. I like Raley as a potential LOOGY more than Rosscup. A lot more, actually.
  4. Dale's bullpen management (which I think he's been unfairly criticized for) would look better if he'd have been able to lean on Robertson and Rivera. I also think it's unfair to blame him for Castro, though I'm not in a position to judge that very well.

The slash line may be bad for Sep. but the peripherals this month have been much improved if that makes anyone feel better. 5.8% BB and 14.4% K rates with a good amount of line drives. Not that it comes close to cancelling out his horrible season, but it should be brought up if we're going to talk about his September slash line.
  6. Too bad nobody was at Turner Field to witness it.
  7. Arguello tweeted this the other day, but Rondon is showing some of the mid-high 90's fastball here late in the season that we heard about after the rule 5 draft. Surprisingly, I think there is some upside (at least more than Lendy) in having him in the org. and allowing him to pitch in the minors next year. Also, really looking forward to some AFL box scores.
  8. Jackson's spot was up with a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs. He wasn't pitching great and probably would've just gone one more inning anyway.
  9. Honestly, I think the most important thing for managers to do now is embrace defensive shifts. Every manager would make a few in-game decisions that we'd disagree with. I see no real reason not to give Dale a chance to manage the Cubs when there is more talent on the roster.
  10. Between forgetting the number of outs multiple times in the field and all of the baserunning outs, Rizzo's made quite a few "mental mistakes" lately. Fortunately for him, he's not Starlin Castro and the Bears are currently playing.
  11. Grimm's stuff looks very good as a short reliever.
  12. He pulled Rusin with a sub 80 pitch count because he was pinch hit for in the 8th inning. Most managers would have done the same thing, especially with a full September bullpen. The bunt with Murphy? That was very questionable, but I won't sit here and pretend he has position guys bunt all of the time. Sweeney did the other day, but that looked more like a missed sign on his part.
  13. If they think he'll [expletive] all over himself in the majors, then yeah, he won't be up, and they'll find a way for him to get AB's in Iowa. However, I think he showed enough positive signs since the trade that I wouldn't be surprised if he got a look. And this is coming from someone who wanted no part of him.
  14. Villanueva or Baez Yeah, Vitters will be moved this offseason. it's an interesting logjam, for sure. You've got to keep Bryant at 3B for as long as possible, and he'll be at AA before long, so Villanueva will have to move up. Baez will before long too, but he has to stay at short stop. I imagine Olt starts the year at 3B in AAA, and gets called up to the majors when baez and villanueva are ready for AAA. I'd be surprised if Baez doesn't start 2014 at Iowa. I never thought I'd say that when he was called up to AA, but I think he earned that. It's also a good opportunity for him to play in some potentially cooler weather before reaching the majors. Remember, they kept him in AZ in 2012 before going to Peoria partially to keep him in warm weather being from Puerto Rico/Florida. I also think next year is when we reach the point where he doesn't need to play SS. I've got Vitters penciled in as Schierholtz's platoon partner in RF. Not sure what to expect with Olt; part of me thinks they just put him in the majors to start because he doesn't have any time to work things out in the minors with all of the infield talent.
  15. If Lake continues to hit line drives everywhere and Shark keeps this up, I wonder if it doesn't just make sense to blow most of the offseason load on Tanaka.
  16. My biggest disappointment was Paniagua. He deserves a do-over next year, but it was ugly in for him 2013. I agree with Plaid on the biggest surprise. Hendricks is a legit rotation option next season with that ground ball ability and command. I didn't pay him much attention when he was acquired. My favorite "long shot" is Ben Wells. He didn't strike batters out this season, but I'm still intrigued by his sinker/ground ball ability as well.
  17. Javy really needs to calm that swing down in certain situations. There's no reason to be swinging THAT hard in that spot. Still, what an outstanding year for him.
  18. Hey, at least we'll get another CJ Edwards start.
  19. He's really old now and has two TJ surgeries under his belt, but 92-93 is still pretty hard from that arm slot.
  20. Yeah and there's Hendricks as a BOR possibility soon. I really want to see Lim today.
  21. Even though they're not currently on the 40 man, I would think Lim and/or Rosscup will get a look.
  22. 2 run triple for Bryant in his first AB. 10 out of his 18 hits in A+ have gone for extra bases.
  23. Outstanding play by Starlin. He's been playing really good defense lately.
