  1. JD isn't wrong about that pitch in the dirt, OTOH, if Castro gets a big secondary and it's a cutter inside and gets thrown out at first, it would be the end of the world.
  2. Lake had a .363 wOBA against lefties coming into today, but he still strikes out a ton against them.
  3. Earlier this game, but I don't remember the last one before that. Change that user name!
  4. Jed Hoyer sure did set up that organization for sustained success. You don't get to blame past FO's for the current state of the team considering your whole thing is that Byrnes should have had enough time to do things his way.
  5. Just saw the replay of that Castro play since I got a different game on FOX yesterday. I was expecting it to be worse; it didn't seem like much of a pause to me.
  6. And despite his success, his K and BB rates make me wince a bit.
  7. That fangraphs piece about Arrieta and his cutter linked to other pieces they've written about cutters. Anyway, one pitching coach said if a cutter is thrown properly it should be just about as fast as the 4-seamer but if it's consistently 4ish MPH less than the fastball it's being thrown wrong and can hurt velocity. That pretty much describes Wood; he takes a lot off his cutter.
  8. The only RHP with shitty enough stuff that I can think of that Olt can hit is probably Vance Worley, and he goes tomorrow. Olt's looked so awful today, though, so he might not even get that chance.
  9. http://i.imgur.com/HR7VTwc.png Coghlan's OPS is .711 fwiw
  10. This isn't just a rebound, this is the guy we were hoping he'd turn into even when he was good. Offensively, I should say. The defense has been shaky at times.
  11. I'll gladly take him, but some of these reports aren't exactly glowing.
  12. When he hits the ball, he tends to hit it really hard. Contact is the problem. Combination of being too passive early in the count and too aggressive deep in the count, and bad pitch recognition (IMO). It doesn't look promising. That's not even true. He has an anemic LD%. If you got bonus points for far HRs he might have value as a 25th guy Wow. Wasn't he the prize in the Garza trade ? He got the most publicity because he was the most recognizable name. CJ Edwards was the prize, but Neil Ramirez is presently the best player we got in return.
  13. The starting pitcher Iowa is facing used to play outfield for the Houston Astros.
  14. What he did last year at AA was incredible - way more impressive than anything Olt or Jackson ever did given the age, position, etc. It has rightfully earned him some leeway. Also, I'm not sure where he compares now, but on opening day he was the youngest player in the PCL. However, there is no doubt what he's doing right now is alarming and I think most people have some level of concern.
  15. No that was last year when he wasn't sure what was up and was blind for a few months. We were led to believe the problem was fixed in the offseason - I think it had something to do with allergies, maybe?
  16. I think Johnson is more broken than Edwards.
  17. No, no, no, Kap and Hollandsworth are not seriously bitching over Starlin's AB where he grounded out to third and didn't move Rizzo to 3rd, are they? Oh, they are.
  18. Villanueva isn't in the lineup tonight. I'm assuming that means he got demoted?
  19. The success of Arietta and Valbuena this year seems Cardinals-y.
  20. That running lane to first base is ridiculously stupid.
  21. 2 K's in 24 plate appearances. Even Bryant had some K issues in Boise. A healthy, left-handed Soler would be nice.
  22. Given that he didn't have near the layoff Bryant did after his college season, I'm guessing he doesn't stay for 18 games. Also, is he unlikely to skip Kane County? He's not as good as Bryant, clearly, but if the FO actually had him #2 on their board, they have to think really highly of him. Mcleod also seemed to think he'll be a quick mover.
