  1. Ned Yost didn't deserve that catch.
  2. Daaaamn, Rizzo ended up with a 5.6 fWAR. 6.0 would've been possible if not for the injury. Don't know the last time we've had a position player over 4.0. Derrek Lee?
  3. Would anyone here trade Javy for Aaron Sanchez or Daniel Norris? I didn't realize Sanchez did so well in his MLB stint this year.
  4. seriously. first time i can say that i was left wanting more since 08 or 09. can't remember exactly how i felt about the 09 season toward the end. hung around for a while but then totally fell off the map in aug and sept, iirc. Given Javy's adjustment and Starlin's injury, I'm ready for it to be over so the offseason moves can start.
  5. Yeah it's a dead ball. Judging by the ump's reaction, he didn't know it hit him until Rizzo said something.
  6. lol, I think Rizzo just admitted to the ump that he should be out.
  7. Rizzo's fWAR was 5.0 coming into this game and will go up.
  8. Every local guy I've heard thinks all of the young players are going to go through struggles like Baez and Alcantara, completely ignoring how well Soler has done, the fact that Mendy isn't in the same class as Bryant and Russell, and that those two have much better approaches than Javy. Edit- To clarify, I'm not saying they won't struggle, but it's fair to expect Bryant and Russell to do quite a bit better than a ~.600 OPS.
  9. I laughed pretty hard at Breslow's answer. That was great.
  10. What's funny is that Joey Gallo struck out almost as often in double A as Javy is right now in the majors.
  11. Quit blowing in all of the time, wind.
  12. Whenever Baez walks, the other teams' announcers always act as though it's the first time he's walked in his life. Like c'mon, his BB rate just hit 7% after that one.
  13. He's got a 40% K rate and a sub 60% contact rate while hitting very few line drives and a ton of infield pop ups. He's been every bit as bad as his line indicates. However, he was hitting .165 on May 16th this season in AAA (opening day was April 3) with a K% probably somewhere in the mid 30s%. I think if you were scared of his bust potential before he was called up (which is completely understandable) then it's fine to be worried now, but his time in the majors so far shouldn't change your perception of him too much. The amount of K's is rare, but so is the upside of a legitimate middle infielder who can hit 40 bombs. I'm far from Javy's biggest fan as I had him a clear third behind Russell and Castro as far as who I valued most, but I'm not real worked up about his bad start either. Rizzo needed time in Iowa partially because they completely re-worked his swing and placement of hands (obviously they were also awful in 2012 and didn't need Rizzo, which is hopefully not the case in 2015). Baez may need work on his swing, but his changes are probably more about having less movement, something I'm not sure he needs to practice at Iowa. He's traditionally a slow starter at a level, and he doesn't seem like the type who needs a confidence boost, so I'm assuming he'll be up from opening day 2015 as not to delay the adjustment period.
  14. That's Alcantara's 20th homer this season between AAA and the majors. I wonder how many he'll hit when he gets older. He looks so small.
  15. If they aren't picking up Wada's option, I think we need two more pitchers. Hendricks and Arrieta are locks to remain, but after that it gets iffy. Turner could very well be a white Jaxon, Straily has an option left IIRC, and Doubront..meh. Hammel is likely better than those three. Something like Lester, Arrieta, Hendricks, and Hammel as the top four with Doubront, Turner, Straily, and Wood fighting it out for the last spot sounds good to me. Straily would probably go to Iowa as depth, and the other three can go to the bullpen or to a different team if not in the rotation.
  16. Why not? Baez will be the second baseman come 2015, so Renteria probably felt like moving him back over there for a game.
  17. Jorge Soler has an 8.2% BB rate and 19.7% K rate. He's also been worth 0.9 WAR in just 15 games. He's going to be a good one.
  18. Call me crazy, but I think Javy could have a BB rate that approaches 10% next year. He's going to see so many pitches out of the zone, and while he'll swing at some of them, it's going to be hard not to walk at times.
  19. heh. coomer said it was borderline and seemed to be bordering on critical of him for taking his second called 3rd of the game. The first AB was close, but a ball still. The most recent one was waaay outside.
  20. What in the world was that. Baez just got called out on a ball 8 inches outside.
  21. Some poor umpiring in Javy's first AB. Took all 5 pitches, only 1 was in the zone, but was called out on strikes.
