  1. Gary Jones (third base/infield coach) seems like the only coach directly tied to Renteria. Everyone else seemed like more of a FO pick. I could see a new 3B coach and whatever that Castro guy did, but I bet most of the coaches stay on.
  2. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/10/29/away-we-go-chicago-cubs-reportedly-set-to-hire-joe-maddon/ lol, Brett edited it to: I guess his "sources" changed their tune once his other "sources" on Twitter say it wasn't quite done yet. Eh, I believe Brett has sources. He's been at it long enough and probably has a good enough reputation as a writer/blogger to meet people who know things. Now Loxas on the other hand, he's full of [expletive].
  3. Why the [expletive] did Yost put Nix in on a double switch? Just have Herrera pitch one inning and let a respectable hitter like Butler PH for the pitcher.
  4. I will continue to feel kind of bad for Renteria (in terms of the baseball world, not real life where he's getting paid 7 figures to do nothing) while rejoicing when Bryant comes up to replace an outfielder who's not as good as Valbuena. TAKE THAT.
  5. Sucks for Ricky and part of his staff. Hopefully he'd get the Rays job or something. The easy thing to assume would be Maddon to the Dodgers, but the fact that nobody is saying that makes me think he'll sign with the Cubs.
  6. I'll go Royals in 6. Ride that bullpen and defense.
  7. Instead of trying to fill the "playoff veteran leader" quota by using an outfield spot on someone who isn't an ideal player, I'd rather the leadership stuff come from someone like Lester who's still a star and maybe the backup catcher (Laird, Ross, etc.) who will probably suck no matter who it is. For the outfield, we can spend on someone who fits better (I really want Itoi to platoon with Ruggiano, even though I hadn't heard of him before last week.)
  8. [expletive] it, I say 2015. Lester or Arrieta win the WC game, but we lose in the NLDS and strikeout an absurd amount of times.
  9. I also thought that last paragraph about Bryant was kind of weird. Castro or Russell can't just move to 3B apparently.
  10. Yeah, though I keep going back to Springer who managed a .350 wOBA with a 61% contact rate in his rookie season in the majors. I think Bryant can at least do that next year.
  11. If he can still play CF, I'd definitely be interested. I don't really want to count on Alcantara; he can move to 2B if Javy fails (though that would probably be Russell) or can super sub. Itoi's splits don't concern me a ton, as he can platoon with Ruggiano. Bryant, Itoi/Ruggiano, and Soler in the OF looks good to me.
  12. Russell is playing second base tonight.
  13. Mesa's best player isn't starting for the second game in a row. Lame.
  14. The player has to agree to such a deal as well. There aren't many minor leaguers who earn as much money as Bryant has thus far through his signing bonus and Adidas sponsorship. Throw in Boras and he seems like the type who doesn't need to take the team friendly deal early.
  15. That strike 3 call on Cain was brutal.
  16. They've got Corey Seager coming up at SS. Frankly, I'd think they'd be more in the market for a third baseman, but if they'd take Castro as the main piece, you have to do that. But I don't think they would. There is a logjam in the OF, especially with Pederson in the picture, but there are a couple of better options to move. But then again, Colletti is a moron, so who knows. Seager's going to be a third baseman pretty soon I think.
  17. If Hanley leaves, they could use a shortstop. Is Colletti going to keep his job long enough to trade him?
  18. I'm a tad worried about all of the strikeouts vs top-of-the-line pitching.
  19. Didn't Mariano Duncan and Javy have a really good relationship? I don't know if a minor league hitting coach is the type of experience they're looking for though.
  20. I'm pretty sure that was my favorite moment of the entire season that wasn't a Colorado Javybomb. what about st louis soler bombs They happened. you're crazy if that wasn't the high point. that or soler homering on the first MLB pitch he ever saw. My favorite moment was Javy's 3rd game when he homered twice. Second is probably Javy's game winning bomb in his debut. Soler's game in St. Louis was probably #3 for me. I was expecting Soler to be really good right away, but even though it was in Colorado vs crappy pitching, I got my hopes up a little that we were going to see an abbreviated adjustment period from Javy when he left with 3 bombs and like a 20% K rate or whatever it was. Deep down I knew better, but I was pretty excited. I want to say he then K'd 4 times the next day against Archer.
  21. This homeplate ump has had a game's worth of bad calls, and it's only the top of the 2nd.
  22. Yeah it makes sense to trade Coghlan and acquire someone who can start in a COF spot and potentially play center once Bryant comes up and in case Mendy is still struggling. I'd like to trade Coghlan and sign Aoki, but I imagine a lot of teams will be in on him given the lack of OF talent available in free agency. I guess we do still have Sweeney and Ruggiano as options as well.
  23. 5'11" 180 lbs and can throw 102 mph
  24. Bryant might be a better hitter than everyone on the Royals.
  25. Is that him in the green shirt?
