  1. Fowler's OBP is up to .337. The qualifying offer is back to being a lock if not an extension with the Cubs.
  2. It ended up there, but it had some pretty filthy movement.
  3. Because he catches the two pitchers who are among the worst in baseball at holding runners.
  4. and Fiers THANK GOD Fires is out of the division. Is this some inside joke I'm missing, or did you really fear a guy who for all practical purposes (at least per Fangraphs) is a poorer man's Kyle Hendricks? Kind of tongue-in-cheek, but he does have a 1.71 ERA and 39 K's (!) in 29 innings against the Cubs in his career.
  5. and Fiers THANK GOD Fires is out of the division.
  6. If Montero really is close to coming back, I could see the Cubs moving Coghlan. I could also see the Padres having interest if they're trying to contend next season and if they aren't freaked out by the left-handed hitter thing.
  7. I hope Castro does go there just to see Dave Cameron's reaction. He hated him even when he was good.
  8. Fortunately Arrieta is a good strikeout pitcher. Wouldn't be a bad idea to limit the balls in play tonight.
  9. This. I'd do that in a heartbeat. I get that they might be trying to hold off trading Baez, but I hope the front office isn't delaying this by caring about guys like Underwood. They want Baez? Give us Upton or Kemp and he's theirs. I read this at first as though you were making a funny reference to the infamous trade proposal. It would've been funnier if you would've had the Cubs trading Baez AND cash for Kemp.
  10. If Javier Baez is a bag of diamonds, what's in Kris Bryant's bag?
  11. Do other teams still look at Edwards as a top pitching prospect? That'd be pretty sweet if they do. Really interested to see the Cubs' lineup tonight..
  12. Strangely enough, despite the routine errors he's made, UZR rates 2015 as his second best defensive season of his career. DRS and dWAR are similar or worse than his previous seasons.
  13. Ew, Jedd Gyroko. Starlin at least was good as recently as last season. If he's a throw in with Ross, then whatever, I guess it's not so bad. But it'd better not be Starlin for Gyorko straight up. I don't think that's what Phil was saying, or at least I hope not.
  14. Anderson is also a free agent after this season. McCarthy is the one they signed for multiple years, but he's obviously hurt.
  15. If we're not going to do anything big with the Padres, I would be very happy with Leake.

    Baez

definitive no, i think Hamels was the only shot at that the talk that the padres want him had me a bit worried i love javy i hope they take castro I defer because I honestly don't know at this point, but who has more trade value-Castro or Baez? Baez, I would guess. Though it probably just depends on the team; there could be a few who prefer Castro and think he is a quick fix/change of scenery away from being his mid-700s OPS self, while Baez has obviously never proven that.
  17. I can't believe how many Cubs fans don't think they have a shot to do anything this year. It's funny because this time of the year when fans are discussing playoffs, most like to over-simplify a team's chances based on how good their top of the rotation is, and our 1-2 is as good as, if not better than, every other NL team besides the Dodgers. That type of meatball thinking is more fun than fatalism. I get that the Phillies series really sucked and was damaging, but man, it didn't totally ruin the season.
  18. Bryant's also been hitting a lot of deep fly balls lately (most of them caught on the warning track). These next two months, I think he'll be more like the hitter most people were expecting before the season - dongs galore, not a huge obp, low avg, and obviously a ton of K's. I'm really expecting that power to explode soon.
  19. A manager defending his player, the horror.
  20. Nothing effort wise. He did have a bad game - struck out looking with a runner on 3rd and 1 out and bobbled a double play ball and only got one out, but nothing effort related. He was out early on Monday with the coaches and got 3 hits that night, and not that it cancels out his horrific season, but I thought it was interesting Maddon seemed to reach his tipping point the next game. I figured he was getting traded.
  21. Rowen could be interesting. Lots of groundballs and can strike a few out as well. He's almost certainly better than the Medina/Schlitter/Soriano group, though that's not hard.
  22. lol, the first two pictures are of his family/children, then a few rows down he's hanging out at a children's hospital.
  23. Down by 3 in the 8th inning is low leverage. This might have been Jaxon if he were still on the team.
