  1. Starlin would've scooped that had he also been playing 1st base; it's like he has to do everything for this team.
  2. Man, I bet Schwarber has a few nasty cuts on his back after that play at 2nd.
  3. We might get to see Starlin Castro: second baseman tonight with a comfortable lead.
  4. Could Bryant pull off a 30-30 season in the near future?
  5. Those Cubs are so hot right now. http://nickroshon.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/HanselSoHotRightNow.jpg
  6. I don't like the impression I get from reporters that they're surprised that Starlin is handling this move OK and isn't pissing and moaning all of the time, or it's just a matter of time before he does so.
  7. Dan, didn't you hear, Wrigley is a pitcher's park now, get them to hit fly balls.
  8. As unexcited as I was over the trade, Haren with the wind blowing in (or just pitching in the 2015 version of Wrigley in general, honestly) is a really good matchup for the Cubs.
  9. Man, Russell is really figuring this whole Major League thing out. Nice.
  10. Soler is going to single-handedly force the MLB's hand on pitchers' protective equipment.
  11. I kind of wish that bomb would've gone off.
  12. Haren must be excited to pitch in Wrigley as a Cub - he touched 88 a couple of times that inning.
  13. So you think his floor at this point is "regular star" or would that be putting words in your mouth? I'd love for you to be right. Well, when he's at 3.9 fWAR through 101 games in his rookies season despite a only a .192 isoSLG which was supposed to be his calling card...yes, I think regular star is his floor. (to be fair you could point out that maybe he just isn't going to hit for as much power in the majors as people were expecting, which, fine, that can be an opinion, but I refuse to live in a world where he won't maintain a mid 200s ISO as his career goes on)
  14. Holy [expletive]. What are you responding to? You saying it wasn't a crazy comparison and overall being weary of KB. A - Most of what you said was acknowledged by me already. B - I'm was only weary of KB's slump, which appears to be over. I was and will remain wary of Bryant's problems making contact in general. That doesn't mean I think he's going to be terrible or even not good (though it's much more of a possibility than you are letting on). And I think even the contact problems are overstated. He's showing that he's EXACTLY the type of player that can be a star with a 30% K rate. He's sustaining an elite walk rate and playing good defense at a difficult position, while hitting for some power that hasn't fully shown itself yet. I guess I don't see why we should be concerned over his contact problems when it's only the difference between him being a regular star instead of an elite player. It's not like it's causing him to be bad or only pretty good.
  15. Holy [expletive]. What are you responding to? You saying it wasn't a crazy comparison and overall being weary of KB. It's a bad comparison because you have to completely ignore a HUGE difference between the two players and what makes one great and the other average at his very best.
  16. No, it's a weird comparison to make when Bryant is on pace to be worth over 5 wins his rookie season. Look, he may not be a total beast offensively right away like some of the projections were saying, but his better-than-advertised defense has more than made up for it (though he still has a higher wRC+ than Longoria, Frazier, and Arenado, and his elite raw power hasn't really shown yet). Being concerned that the strikeouts won't make him a star is SO beginning of 2014. Embrace the awesomeness of Kris Bryant, David.
  17. This way Maddon can PH for Coghlan with Denorfia against a LHP and be sure that the other manager won't put in a RHP because Rizzo is next...or at least that's how I assume it started Although matchups matter less now that Coghlan is a 6 inning player, and replacing him with Denorfia is more tricky. So yeah, maybe Bryant should move up a bit.
  18. Theo Epstein getting trashed in public is one of the more surprising things the Internet has shown me.
  19. I guess it is only a manager, but it's pretty funny that Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi of all people, are the ones who employ Don Mattingly.
  20. Meh, I'd like to see the Pirates lose, but it's hard for me to muster up too much emotion over them. I don't particularly care if the WC game is at Wrigley or PNC. also, lol, the three best teams in the NL all play in the same division
  21. Just extend the netting to the foul pole, MLB. Someone is seriously going to die.
  22. Well...the good thing is Rizzo and Bryant would be due up in the bottom of the 9th.
  23. It's interesting that Maddon has been taking Soler out for defensive reasons instead of Schwarber.
