  1. The catch itself wasn't that great, it was his recovery when he dropped it. He robbed a homer, his recovery just added to how great that catch was. I only saw it once, but I wasn't even sure that ball was going over the fence.

  3. Ahhh, the Edwin Jackson trade in the offseason was just the first in a series of moves to acquire a starting pitcher.
  4. The options weren't play Chris Duncan in LF or play with 8 players. If they wanted to open up a spot they didn't need to trade Duncan, they just needed to stop playing him everyday. The fact that they got a piece of [expletive] like Lugo is even worse than if they just outright released Duncan.
  5. Haven't seen that. Sorry that you can't see that the trade opened up an outfield spot. So would murdering Chris Duncan in cold blood, but I probably wouldn't tie that to an Adam Dunn acquisition. Though Marty Brennaman would be suspicious no doubt.
  6. Yeah, let's trade Vitters so we can have a catcher for 3 weeks.
  7. Nevermind the fact that LaRussa has talked about putting Lugo in the OF.
  8. How is that the first in a series of moves except by a loose definition considering all trades a series of trades? How does swapping out Duncan for Lugo open up anything, unless they trade Brendan Ryan and Bo Hart for Halladay? They are looking at Dunn and Holliday, who are both outfielders, and just traded Duncan, who was an outfielder. Seems pretty simple to me. Ankiel, Ludwick, Schumaker, Rasmus, DeRo, and Stavinoha can all play the OF. Add in the Glaus experiment when/if he returns. Couldn't they have traded Duncan because they had a massive logjam in the OF and need a SS? And because Chris Duncan's useless?
  9. I was a big fan of the trade at the time. I lived in Nashville around the time that Aramis was playing there and watched him a number of times. I knew the talent was there, it was just a matter of him producing. And he definitely has. It wasn't a wildly popular deal among everyone, though. Well it wasn't wildly popular because everyone wanted Lowell. Were there really a lot of people that preferred Bobby Hill + trash (+Lenny Harris/Jose Hernandez everyday at 3B and Goodwin in CF) vs. Ramirez and Lofton?

  11. Your latter point may stand, but the reason the other team traded for a player isn't necessarily just hype from the original team. Maybe Florida and Pittsburgh genuinely saw what the Cubs scouts saw in Choi and Hill and felt they could produce at a high level. Just because a player doesn't pan out doesn't mean he was all hype - the talent could be there. Choi did perform at a high level for the Marlins. I'd love to know exactly what happened to his bat. Was it a matter of adjusting, or were there injuries involved? I know Tracy fucked with him in LA, but it doesn't explain his power just disappearing by '06.
  12. I think Clemson lost more to a team that finished ranked lower than Illinois did. If Richardson can play defense from the word go, they should win.
  13. If you assume that 99% of all message board posters on the internet have little to no baseball ability...which I guess is a safe bet. Straight as an arrow 100 mph fastballs, more than a handful of guys here could make contact.
  14. Am I the only one that think Pujols batting 1st in the presently constructed St. Louis is a lineup is a really good idea?
  15. Only the Pirates and Orioles have longer streaks of sub-500 seasons than the Reds. Only the Pirates, Royals, Blue Jays, and Nats have longer playoff droughts.
  16. Not a chance you could catch up to Farnsworth's stuff. If you're vying for a walk, that's a different story. But I seriously doubt anyone here could catch up to a 102MPH heater. Hasn't touched 100 all year, hovers around 95.
  17. No power, and I don't think he can stick in CF. On a personal level, it's nice to see him have some moderate success, and maybe some day get some major league action though.
  18. On the other hand, the Astros aren't a good baseball team.
  19. Kyle Farnsworth or Livan Hernandez.
  20. I hope so, cause otherwise we're gonna have a lot to look out for from the Reds in the coming years with all that young talent they have.
  21. I always feel the need to point out that Ramirez hadn't regressed, he was playing on a severely injured ankle and the Pirates front office/management was too stupid to let it heal. Which in turn led to the accusations of laziness and dogging it, when the guy was playing on one foot. The Pirates have come a long way since then actually. Sorry Jake.
  22. I hope Chris Duncan never leaves cause a guy on BTF said he was a better hitter than Beltran for the next 3 years, "expecting" a 140 OPS+ If he leaves, I lose my best material.
