  1. The Cubs are stuck in limbo right now, similar to the Orioles about 9 years ago as far as generally declining with aging, regressing, and overpaid players absorbing most of the payroll and little from the (while slightly improving) farm system. The players from the farm system are what's keeping the team in contention.
  2. CASEY MCGEHEE [expletive] SUCKS
  3. You really don't know as much about the Cardinals as you think you do. I can only assume you're following fat tub of goo Bernie's line of thinking that Duncan needed to be traded in order to get him out of the lineup, in which case you apparently believe if the Cardinals acquired Holliday that LaRussa woulda benched Ludwick?? You don't nearly as much about baseball as you think if you think the Cardinals had to trade CHRIS [expletive] DUNCAN to open a spot up for Matt Holliday.
  4. And I think Billy Beane has lost his touch. Brett Wallace cannot play 3B.
  5. I see the Cubs as even with the Cards now when factoring in the 1.5 game lead.
  6. Who is Lugo an upgrade of? Brendon Ryan can run circles around Lugo defensively, and has hit better than Lugo this year as well. Lugo isnt better than Skip. The only person I can think Lugo is an upgrade of is Thurston, which is really not a big deal. Seriously Julio Lugo gives everything back on defense. And his offense isn't even that good.
  7. Can't. Fit. Matt. Holliday. In. Outfield. Too. Much. Chris Duncan. Must. Make. Room!!
  8. They'll give up a lot of hits from Glaus trying to run over to 1st to make outs on ground balls hit to him.
  9. oops Rumor is Matt Holliday refused to come to St. Louis unless Chris Duncan was at least 1000 miles away.
  10. Rich Harden? Padres appeared ready to trade us Peavy as well, we just couldn't afford it.
  11. The Cubs can absolutely "catch" the Cardinals even if they have Holliday. On paper, without Holliday, the Cubs are the better team. With Holliday, I'd probably still give the edge to the Cubs on paper.
  12. I think it's a bit early to get concerned about 2011 prospects. Things change so much on a weekly basis, that it's hard to put stock in. The thing is it feels like we've been on these kids forever and haven't made it anywhere since they've been all we have to look to since we locked up 2010 a year ago. With the absurd depth in Illinois in 2011, I'm confident we'll wind up with another top 10 class.
  13. I don't think this is a great deal for the Cardinals. They've definitely made themselves better, but they paid a very high price for Holliday. He isn't playing all that well and is a half season rental. I think they would have been better off inquiring about Luke Scott who would have cost them less and is signed for more than half a year. You haven't been paying attention for awhile. Even if he's had an OPS of .900 over the last few months look at Luke Scott's numbers. He wouldn't have cost Wallace, his contract is cheaper and he's signed for more than half a year. There were much better options for the Cardinals out there like Josh Willingham. IIRC, Scott is a horrendous OF.
  14. Hopefully this turns out like the Daryl Kile trade.
  15. That worked out so well for Hendry. Note that it wasn't just Hendry who did that, which should once again give you an idea that the parade of GM medocrity at best for the Cubs is all but guarenteed to continue once he is gone. Most GM's are not terribly good at their job and the ones that are better than just being tolerable are few and far between. I think it's quite clear that Jim Bowden was the best GM in baseball.
  16. He's lying guys.
  17. That's fair. But realistically we are stuck with a senile, old manager who is obsessed with old school role's such as LOOGYs. There will be a LOOGY on this team whether we like it or not. I'd rather that LOOGY be Rhodes (for a very small price) than Marshall. I fear acquiring Rhodes would only give us 2 LOOGYs and enhance Marmol's death via arm decapitation.
  18. As a fan of an 11 man bullpen, I have no use for a guy who sucks against righties.
  19. So you don't want a reliever who has an era under 2 and a whip under 1? :-k Call me crazy but he would be an asset to the bullpen. Want to bet on where his #s finish?
  20. From 7/8: They're stupid. Let's not trade a guy who a) won't be here after next year and b) won't help us win a championship because our pitching is terrible even though he is their best trading chip and would likely bring in at least one top pitching prospect, maybe even an extra mid level prospect as well. Stupid, stupid, stupid. They can still trade him next year. They might also draw more than 10,000 fans a game the rest of the season this way.
  21. The situation, I'll totally agree with. The catch itself, meh.
  22. I want nothing to do with a 56 year old Arthur Rhodes.
