  1. Bradley for a day or 2. Atkins or Samardzija should go down shortly for Fuld.
  2. Rich had a stretch of 15 appearances from '06-'07 with an ERA under 2.
  3. I only made the Matt Jones comparison so I could immediately follow up with the cokehead bust line.
  4. We're not really going to bench the best OBP on our team for Mark Teahen are we? Or Hermida, who apparently sucks now.
  5. LEAVE HIM ALONE CUB FANS
  6. Didn't they release him? And yeah this isn't that big of a deal. He's not batting all that well this year anyway. He has done well against left-handers again this year which is what he was signed to do. It's too bad they've stuck him out there against too many right-handers which has deflated his numbers. If the Cubs can get Soto back soon though, the lineup against left-handers should still be strong enough without Reed there. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs will choose to structure the lineup against a left-hander now. Theriot-Bradley seems like an obvious 1-2 vs. lefties. Doubt they will.
  7. Touche, but somebody's going to pay him. He'll be the first multi-faceted offensive white guy in the NFL since they played with leather helmets. I could see him being a first round pick. Not as a QB, though. A Matt Jones type? A colossal bust with a debilitating cocaine problem.

  9. I'll be there in supposedly really good seats. 1-0 on the season.
  10. And in fact I've read speculation that Sanchez would pass through waivers, meaning the other 29 teams wouldn't take him for free, either. (Now whether that speculation is actually correct is another matter.) I could see a Canseco/Randy Myers situtation happening if that were the case.
  11. Firm pitch counts are necessary becuase managers are dumb and too interested in the short term. You create a hard cap for them, and it's easy enough for them to follow. You tell them that it's a case by case basis based on whether his mechanics are falling down, whether he's visually laboring, what kind of distribution of pitches he's had, and you'll get buffoons like Dusty that tell you the pitcher looked good out there, or he told me he could go one more. None of this is to say there aren't severe flaws with giving the same idiots a # to work with.
  12. Does Hendry's Notre Dame fetish extend to Lou?
  13. I just really have no idea why he had to pull Stevens in the first place.
  14. Soto starts his rehab assignment later this week. NOW WE NEED A COMPETENT 8 HITTER!!
  15. He did K, but Bradley stole 2nd. I thought he k'd, but when I went to check since my recollection was in question, sportsline's play by play had him grounding out to third that play. I guess they messed that one up. Ahhh my mistake, different AB. That one was a lazy chopper to 3rd(that probably hit Soriano's foot). Bradley advanced to 2nd on the grounder.
  16. I know stats aren't kept on this sort of thing, but I'd like to see the rate in which Cubs opponents score a run in their next AB after a multiple-run inning. *sigh* Yeah, I really want to see that stat. Probably just about the exact same # as other teams. IF NOT FOR THE CURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Quitter. (not at life, at killing yourself)
  18. My memory was off...I thought I remember him K'ing, so I thought Fox was up with Bradley still on first.. He did K, but Bradley stole 2nd.
  19. Cabrera doesn't even have a 720ish career OBP. And he's [expletive] old.
  20. He's also not somebody with a history of hitting. He's a .229 hitter who hits a lot of ground balls and infield pop ups. And with Reed Johnson on deck, chances aren't great that he'll get a hit either. THEN MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE PINCH HIT THE [expletive] GUY STILL SITTING ON THE BENCH WHO COULD HIT. THE GUY WHO WAS COMING INTO THE GAME ON DEFENSE ANYWAY. (Not aimed at you) Any stat on the success of squeezes is likely only going to take into squeezes in which the ball was bunted in fair territory. (Ignoring all attempts like Fontenot's last night or when the ball is bunted foul) Similar to when people cite stats on runs on sac bunts. Nobody ever counts those bunts where a guy is forced out, or when the guy whiffs on it/puts it foul
  21. I bet Mike Fontenot outperforms Cabrera the rest of the season.
  22. We don't really know if Towers was asking too much. We do know that Towers did everything in his power to help Hendry put together a package that would get the deal done, including phone calls to Baltimore and Philadelphia. Hendry basically sat on his butt and let Towers do all the work. Then when it appeared as though a deal was imminent, Hendry folded up the tent and ran for cover. Or Hendry realized he had to dump 13M in salary to fit Peavy into the budget.
  23. Majestic also glues their letters on so its not as easy as you would think And it wouldn't be centered Then you get SSOSAS and tell people you have a speech impediment.
  24. I think I'm sensing sarcasm, and if so I agree. A good friend of mine spent a few years at AAA and had a few cups of coffee with the Royals. He had been a power hitter since he was in Little League, and remained that until he was done playing. I'm not sure he laid down a bunt in his entire life, including LL. Why would someone like that be expected to lay one down at the ML level? Because it's a basic skill of the game that every major league hitter should know how to do. Unless your name is Albert Pujols, I guess. But his friend played the game before.
