    It was with the BBWAA, but it worked for Jim Rice, Goose Gossage, and will probably pathetically work for Jack Morris. Different people, but the writers pretty much invented being cowardly egotistical, elitist pricks that only vote for people they like personally. Same goes for their dick measuring by keeping a guy out for not talking to them back in the 70s.

    If the Cubs split with LA and the Cards take 3 of 4 from San Diego, the Cubs would be seven games back, not 6.5. For this reason alone, the Cubs will not win the division. But if the Cubs take 2 of 3 from the Pads, and the Cards take 2 of 3 from the Dodgers they'd only be 5 back. Meaning they'd be 6 back in the above scenario.

    He hasn't actually gone through with anything yet. Lou declares lots of plans right after games, and probably less then half of them are carried through, and the rest probably last a game or two. I fully expect Gregg to pitch in normal closing save situations in the relatively near future. I mostly agree with you, but he did finally take Soriano out of the lead-off spot. Granted it was about 2 seasons later than he should have been taken out. It wasn't 2 seasons too late because Soriano was very good the last 2 seasons. He was moved because he wasn't producing this season, not because of some ancient belief in what a leadoff hitter should be.

    Japan's players have it worse than US players. Soriano was only able to come here because he "retired" I don't think such a move would work out well for Strasburg.

    I kinda like the idea of establishing foriegn citizenship elsewhere and becoming a free agent. Anyone know the specs on how that would work out if Strasburg moved to Grand Cayman?

    Strasburg would have to give permission to be drafted by the Nats next year. The minimum amount of time he'd be a National would be 6 years. And that would involve him almost immediately becoming a major leaguer. I wouldn't put it past the Nats to leave him in the minors well past his major-league ready date to delay his free agency by a couple of seasons.

    Sandberg and Sweetness for me. One died young and the other is pretty annoying, childhood ruined for me. :cry: Jordan and Sosa... One cheated on his wife the other took roids. Oh, childhood heroes. Don't worry Roast I'm sure Jordan took illegal substances and Sammy cheated on his wife too.

    It was utter fogeyism. It wasn't talking about how Ryno was a complete player, it was talking about how the damn kids who won't get off his lawn aren't complete players, and don't care and make too much money, and stole his wife. Sandberg was my favorite player during his career(and probably top 5 of all time, below Edmonds, but up there for sure), but managing/loud mouth coot Sandberg is a different animal.

    You'd have to think he'd be leaving quite a bit of money on the table if he went back into the draft next year. Say another team drafts him #2 next year (I see Harper going first). That team, one would think, would have a ton of negotiating power right off the bat, because he wouldn't want to go back into the draft a third time and get drafted in a much later round. He's dumb if he doesn't take what the Nationals are giving him. I hate when draft picks do this in any sport. You haven't even played one single game yet. You have no right to ask for the moon. He has the right to ask for whatever the [expletive] he wants. Why do you get to define what is considered the moon and what is considered reasonable? :roll: Ok, he has the RIGHT to ask for whatever he wants. But if he expects what he's asking for right now, he's crazy. He hasn't even thrown a single professional pitch, and I don't care what anyone says: There is no such thing as a "can't miss" prospect. He could be the next Mark Prior for all we know. Asking for something as part of a negotiation and expecting something are 2 different things.

    I was thinking the same thing. I wonder what the average age is of posters that hated it. The under 80 crowd hated it.

    Because you're talking about things after the fact.(Same thing with the slumping offense you mentioned earlier. It's easy to look back and say, oh these guys weren't hitting, why didn't they do something to scratch out some runs? Guys can turn on a dime and break out of a slump no matter how pathetic his previous 20 ABs looked. It's extremely difficult to pinpoint when a player is going to suck.

    We are still trying to win next year aren't we? Why in the world would you trade one of your top two starters? As some others have pointed out, I don't think trading Lilly means they aren't trying to win next year. They may have the SP depth to do both. If the offense is going to be upgraded, they likely need to free up some money. I think Lilly, and possibly Dempster, are among the few tradeable assets the Cubs have they may bring is some reasonable value and free up cash. I'm not sure who fits the bill, but they could deal Lilly to a pitching starved team and that team send back an impact bat at either second base or shortstop. Instead of a Lilly for prospects deal, do a Lilly for impact bat deal. The Mets? The Mets aren't giving up Jose Reyes for 1 year of Ted Lilly, and Luis Castillo sucks.

    i like this idea too, although i'm not sure how easy it would be to get a taker for dempster's contract. Agreed. It would be ideal, but I don't think it is too realistic what about trading Lilly? 1 year $12 million left with no-trade protection. We are still trying to win next year aren't we? Why in the world would you trade one of your top two starters? Cause Harden's better.

    he was never going to play; reed johnson was the platoon partner for fukudome and the corners were filled by bradley and soriano. pie was never going to "figure it out" in a role where he never played and didn't get to adjust to major league pitching. Agreed. Once we decided to sign Bradley, Pie had no place on this team. I really wish Lou would have given Pie a fair shake last year though... but of course he defaulted to the scrappy veteran Reed Johnson after about 4 games. In all fairness Reed Johnson played very well last year and even hit righties pretty well. No he didn't. 280/323/398 compared to Pie's line of 264/316/361

    That would make sense if his previous success had happened during subsequent years of multi-year contracts. As it is, the last time Bradley had full back-to-back seasons on the same club was 2004-05 with the Dodgers. His OBP numbers from 2006 through 2008 were good, and those were put up with 3 different teams (albeit with limited playing time). But since we're probably stuck with him for 2010 regardless, I'll agree with you in not giving up on him yet. If nothing else, a year under his belt in Chicago should let him know what to expect from the media and fans, which can only be a good thing. HE'S HITTING THE CRAP OUT OF THE BALL AT WRIGLEY

    I'm finding it hilarious. This is a fun game. I guess I'm just a buzzkill. It pisses me off to see them doing this well after looking so pathetic against the Phillies. It's like they are trying to say that there is this huge of a gap between the 2 teams and there's not. Also, I fully expect to see 3 runs scored the rest of the series. Because you're an insane person. Growl, this 17-2 beating sure is annoying.
