  1. Agreed with you on most points here, particularly about them not doing much in conference. I do think their talent level is higher than last year, but mainly their improved depth is the key (i.e. keeping guys like Moore and Finklemeier off the court). Also, solid win for Illinois. I only saw pieces but they looked sharp. Didn't meant to imply the talent level isn't higher, it clearly is, 4 of their top 5 scorers weren't on the team last year. (Though Story and Williams left, the incoming freshmen + Rivers obviously make up for that)
  2. I explained myself when I made that pick. Iowa has an offense that's more conducive to a out of nowhere upset. Penn St. is a lot closer to the bottom then I thought when I made those picks, but Northwestern and Wisconsin are a lot farther away. Looking at the schedules, IU only gets PSU once (away), and MSU once (home). Iowa gets PSU once (home), and Wisconsin once (away) Iowa isn't going winless with that system, and IU isn't going to beat the top teams so it could come down to the head to head. An IU sweep isn't out of the question. I'd be stunned to see Iowa sweep IU.
  3. I think they'll steal a few more games than people think. They've really looked pretty good tonight and have been much more competitive this year than last. It helps when you don't have an unathletic midget playing a bunch of minutes at PG. Jeremiah Rivers isn't much better. Whoa? Rivers isn't a world beater by any means, but Daniel Moore can't even carry his jock. Of course, that's much more of a slight against Moore than a compliment to Rivers. Thank God Moore didn't see the court last night. Hopefully that trend continues. It was a really nice win for this team. I was impressed with their rebounding and physical play underneath. I will say, Pitt looked really bad. Well Rivers is a way better defender, but the 2 of them just seem to have the same offensive gameplan of drive into the lane head down and then realize they can't shoot. Last year Indiana wouldn't have been close to Pitt, and it's not so much that the talent level is so much higher than last year, it's that sucking vortexes like Moore don't have to see the court due to lack of depth. I still don't think they'll do much in Big Ten season(though I may need to bump them ahead of Iowa), but they have the bodies where a loss won't be a foregone conclusion before they take the court.
  4. I don't think that's a quote I want to have printed in the NY Times. Sex

  6. This site has it at 11. I must say none of these girls are nearly as good looking as Elin. http://backporch.fanhouse.com/2009/12/08/tiger-woods-mistresses-the-still-growing-cheat-sheet/ well yeah but there's a real number and then there are the people who have never met tiger woods and are coming forward because they want publicity. That's not to say the real number is lower than 11. There's also the women who cheated on their husbands/boyfriends with him, or the women who don't want to look like golddiggers, or just don't want to sell their story for whatever reason.
  7. Agreed, but Rosenthal tends to be somewhat decent at least when he floats a rumor. The very thought of him anywhere in the outfield at Wrigley makes me want to ](*,) Rosenthal has been terrible the past year or so. He had one really good offseason.
  8. Maybe Hendry is stupid like a fox, and leaked this Bradley-Silva rumor. Thus every other GM in the league raced to their phones and offered him something for Bradley, knowing they could obviously beat that.
  9. You have to be a special kind of bad to pitch in Safeco, in front of that defense, and put up the numbers Silva did. If the Cubs traded for him, the best course of action would be to immediately release him.
  10. Yeah, except he's a [expletive] awful baseball player. true, but you have to work with what you got...and we got bradley... Who is a good baseball player. Working with what you got is not turning a good baseball player into a bad one.
  11. Yeah, except he's a [expletive] awful baseball player.
  12. If there were a 4-team playoff this year, which undefeated team do you leave out? Or do you leave 2 out and include Florida? The reason, to me, a 4-team playoff doesn't and won't ever work, is that there are 6 BCS conferences, and if they can't all be represented in a playoff, it'll never fly. So, the minimum playoff would probably have to be 8 teams. And that's why I don't like the 8-team playoff ideas. I know it didn't happen this year (though this year is actually an outlier) but I hate it when a team ranked outside of the top-15 wins its conference and gets an autobid. I can see the BCS conferences agreeing to a 4-team playoff. What I can't see is them agreeing to an 8-team playoff where the top-8 go and there are no autobids. I'd also leave Boise State out because they have the weakest resume. Boise also has the 2nd best win. I'd leave out Texas.
  13. No Chance. Even if they win like 55-10 and Texas wins like 17-14? Texas would have beaten a team that already dominated Florida in a game that was way more important to Florida. Writers will write it off as Florida not having their heart in the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few 1st place votes their way, but I'd be stunned to see anything close to a majority. Regardless of what happens in the BCS games, I wouldn't be shocked to see 1 voter throw a 1st place vote to a secondary undefeated team out of protest.
  14. Peter Gammons was awesome. He's a parody at this point.
  15. Never figured a guy like Sandberg to be firey. He always seemed pretty laid-back as a player. He's doing it because he's trying to be more managerly
  16. Possible "new endeavors": Touring with his band Writing about the Red Sox Talking about the Red Sox Watching the Red Sox Writing about his band Starting a blog about the Red Sox Working for the Red Sox Writing about the Red Sox Dying.
  17. But Clausen didn't fall on his face. He's going to be an NFL QB
  18. That can't be true. I thought it was funny when he got indignant about roids, but I'm not sure that qualified as a story.
  19. Pitt's not too good. They should beat you, but it won't be a blow out.
  20. That at least makes a little more sense, the original rumor had the D-Backs prospect(s) going to New York.
  21. Why in the [expletive] would the Tigers want Phil Coke? Why in the [expletive] are the Yankees getting prospects back?
  22. Ugh, that deal is horrible for the Diamondbacks. They better be receiving extra quality prospects if they're giving up Scherzer. His salary and team control probably makes him the most valuable player listed. Agreed. I wouldn't trade Scherzer alone for Jackson and Kennedy.
  23. Reports are Braves will look to trade Soriano, he has to approve a trade before June 15. Knowing that Hendry is looking for a vet out of the bullpen Soriano could make sense, if they aren't asking a ton for him and it's more of a salary relief move. That June 15th rule applies to guys signed as free agents, not guys retained through arbitration. Corey Patterson was traded in the same offseason after accepting arbitration, for example. Soriano accepting arbitration is him being signed as a free agent.
