  1. But, he's still not producing. How many years do we go between Tournament wins before we decide that enough is enough? So if Chester Frazier doesn't get hurt in practice last year you don't think Weber should be fired?
  2. With the limited budget we have, I don't like spending a sizable chunk on a guy who stands a chance of being our 7th best starter (Z, Dempster, Lilly, Wells, Marshall, Gorz) I get that Lilly is starting the season on the DL and that a lot of people don't buy Wells as a legit starter, but having 7 guys capable of starting just isn't a luxury this team's budget can afford. If you're going for the starting depth, I agree you go high reward with a Bedard/Sheets type. Mark Mulder is super toasty. I don't know what Huff would cost, but I'm not sure he has anything left. He was terrible last year, and is pretty much a DH at this point. I like Hinske, and don't really know what to think about Tatis or Baldelli
  3. Votto OPSd 981 last year, it's hard to expect much more out of him. Stubb's minor league #s doesn't scream stud to me. Paul Janish is awful.
  4. I think 2003 CPat would have a damn good argument against '08 Edmonds (both played ~half a season) 2004 CPat was one of the more underappreciated seasons i've lived through. A lot of people thought he sucked out loud that year. He was pretty damn good if you buy that he was a good-great defender.
  5. Enjoying the meltdown? Meltdown's over; rebuilding has commenced. To answer your question, though, yes. I thoroughly enjoyed the enema. Sorry, was talking about us, I was thinking we had Iowa Saturday. And we're not even on the road when we play Iowa. I'm out of it.
  6. No? They were undefeated and ranked No. 7 in Pomeroy (now No. 10). They own wins over Marquette (22), Ole Miss (32), Texas A&M (46), and Seton Hall (57). I don't think their No. 6 ranking was too far off base, if at all (though, even in their recent wins, they didn't seem to be playing all that well). Likely a function of my growing disbelief at certain teams being considered good. It seems more often lately I look a top 20 team and am pretty shocked they're considered a great team. West Virginia hasn't looked like anything special whenever I've seen them. I guess somebody has to fill these rankings beyond Kansas, Duke, Cuse, and Purdue.
  7. Enjoying the meltdown?
  8. I love Jimmy, but defense matters
  9. Arom sitting 26th for WRs despite having so few snaps.
  10. 4am meeting, or so I heard. Sheesh, if I was Zorn I would have requested a meeting following yesterday's game. I'm not getting up at 3am to get fired, just fire me now so I can get some sleep. Daniel Snyder is a complete joke. The meeting was following the game (sort of) The Redskins got back to FedEx Field at 230 AM last night. The meeting was held then.
  11. Yeah he's killed it without Self's recruits. Killed it. Barring a 12-6 conference record he's gonna miss the tournament for the 2nd time in 3 years. Badass. Yeah, it's not as if two of the most important players on this team are freshman that are struggling on defense, and that this team's main problem is defensive. Other than the team being bad defensively, though, you're right, it's exactly like those other Weber disappointments, like the 2nd place team from a year ago that everyone expected to finish first. Yeah he did well last year. I think it was because the Big Ten was awful, but ok last year he did well. How bout the three years before? He under achieved in all of them. How exactly was the Big Ten awful last year? 7 teams in the tourney, collectively playing above seed is awful? Losing a 5-12 game without your senior leader and best defender ruined the whole season for you? Last year's coaching job was phenomenal. The year before was terrible. I'd argue that the team performed about as well as expected in '05-'06 and '06-'07. You know as well as I that they were screwed in both their seeding and location in '06. (Supposedly "punishment" for the great draw we had in '05. Let me know when UNC gets "punished" for playing games close to home when they earn it) Then they got dicked over in the 4-5 game's officiating. '06-'07 choked away a big lead in the tourney and left a really bitter taste in my mouth but it was a team that lost a starter and a contributing bench player(through at least one of their's utter stupidity) If you want to argue that he botched the handling of Jamar, that's reasonable. If you want to argue that the program never should've sunk as low as it did, that's certainly reasonable. Arguing that he needs to go 14 games into a season following getting a 5 seed and 2nd place in a deep Big Ten out of 3 star recruits is not. The issue with Weber during those dark days was an extreme downturn in recruiting. He's turned it around, and now has 2 freshmen and a preferred walk on playing huge roles on the team. That's not to say that's not his fault, but as I said he's turned it around. He did exactly what you wanted of him on Saturday, had Paul out there and Paul acted like a freshman and took a terrible shot. It's going to happen. Am I disappointed about how the season is unfolding? Of course I am. I'm the psycho screaming obscenities at the TV with every turnover, but I have a hard time seeing the case for running Weber out of town at this point.
  12. Ronny Cedeno was a good backup SS in 2008. As was Ramon Martinez in '03.
  13. i don't get this. the steelers took tee martin ahead of tom brady and they're like the best organization in NFL history. I'm still red-faced that the Cubs passed on Pujols 9 times.
  14. What young hitting am I worried about on the Reds now?
  15. We are about to have one tournament win the the last 5 years. Same could probably be said for Bruce Weber. facepalm
  16. Doesn't having Kevin O' Neill as your coach make the postseason ban moot?
  17. Holy [expletive], that picture looks fake.
  18. The only case for Dawson I find acceptable is that Olympic Stadium ruined his knees sapping him of his speed, thus taking away his gold glove defense in CF. Dawson's #s from a RF aren't hall worthy. Gwynn's quote reminds of the Jim Rice FEAR garbage. Dawson's certainly more worthy than Rice was, but so are 50 other guys not in the hall.
  19. bingo I don't understand the extreme amount of Theriot hate on this board. I think he's just fine at the top of the order. He certainly is not a liability at the plate, and it's not like he has some massive contract to live up to. Theriot's likely to be about the 7th best hitter on the team. Why would you want him batting 2nd?
  20. Blake Hoffarber is outscoring Iowa 16-14.
  21. So anyway, we're 9-5 with 17 conference games left to play + the Big Ten Tourney. I'd say 20-12 is a minimum. If we lose 13, we probably need 22 wins. So to get there we can't lose to Indiana, Iowa, Penn State, or Michigan. That puts us at 16-5. That requires a 4-6 finish with home and aways vs. MSU, Purdue, OSU, Wisconsin, + @ NU, and home vs. Minnesota. It's possible, but we probably can't get swept by both Purdue and MSU. I'm still too much a kool aid drinker, I say we pull 21-12 and get an 11.
  22. My issue is that it wasn't an errant elbow under the basket or some pushing or shoving going on after a hard foul. This was a guy on top of another player, throwing a forearm to his face for no apparent reason. I don't have a big problem with physical play within the confines of a game. (Except when the refs swallow their whistles and ruin the flow of the game)
  23. And that's not even true. 8/4/3 is "more" money than 3/4/8.
  24. DeAndre Liggins still plays?
