  1. Regarding the (sort of) benchings. Did they state a specific reason on the telecast (I was at a bar with no sound)? My best guess is Weber saw what a nightmare things were when he let Pruitt dictate things without punishment(sans his 1 game suspension) and decided last year that he wasn't taking anything. Maybe DMac blew up after the Gonzaga game, and this was his punishment. Maybe he didn't like DJ's effort the past few games. Maybe Weber just wanted something to get the team's attention. Or maybe you're right and he's being dumb and playing the guys that dive on the floor rather than the guys that win games. I think they're all reasonable theories, I don't see why you think it's likely that yours is correct strictly because he didn't start McCamey until midway through his freshman year. Is there another example of a guy who was glued to the bench despite being a clearly better player? I'm drawing a blank. I don't understand where these thoughts about Richmond not playing next year are coming from. He started 2 freshman from the word go this year, if Richmond shows up ready to go, he'll play. I'm not sure he'll start (coming to a team with 5 returning starters), but he's going to get serious minutes barring a Royce White situation.
  2. I'm just wondering if this cult of Self followed him with other jobs. Did Oral Roberts people become Tulsa fans? Tulsa to Illinois? The amount of Illinois fans on phog.net is embarrassing (both the haters and the longing lovers) I get it, the guy is charismatic, and a pretty good in-game coach, but holy [expletive], get over it.
  3. I don't see the problem, really. It's the same as posting WAR. Then just post WAR. The salary structure of MLB combined with the increasing/decreasing marginal value of a win make the $ figures worthless. You're telling me you've never seen people (on here and elsewhere) post that a player was "worth" a certain amount last year so this is a good deal/bad deal. It was just done with Jason Bay/Byrd the other day. Nevermind the fact that (as stated earlier in the thread) the #s are so reliant on UZR, which single season reliability is sketchy at best
  4. If that's all he's doing fine, but he taught DMac his entire frosh year when he should have been playing. I also agree with Sulley that Richmond isn't gonna take well to sititng. Also to whomever said that Dee or Deron could have transferred, Dee wanted to and Self talked him out of it. They didn't like Weber at all his first year. There's a reason why he felt like he had to do a mock funeral for Self. How'd the whole Dee and Deron thing work out? Christ your Self obsession is embarrassing. Good old St. Bill kept Dee in Champaign. GMAFB
  5. Seriously, I'd be ecstatic if I never saw a fangraphs $ figure again.
  6. Seriously, we're freaking out over DMac and DJ not starting(And going on to play 28 and 26 minutes respectively{more than Jordan and Cole}) Freaking out that he's not playing freshmen enough when he has started them in all games but 1.5 games. Nevermind that if there's a perfect time to teach a lesson it's against the worst team in the Big Ten.
  7. Why would he do better as a Pirate minor leaguer than a different team's minor leaguer? The competition is the same.
  8. Elaborate, please. Because he's essentially a AAA-level pitcher. Considering the Pirates are a AAA team, he should become a standout among their minor league squad. Then how would he fit in?
  9. I don't konw why, but I recall hearing it's not allowed. I'm quite sure the Cardinals fans in your office pulled this straight from their collective asses.
  10. Would he take a limo from USC to Chicago?
  11. Mike Lowell and Dice-K. I can't remember if they're still paying Julio Lugo.
  12. Liked him better in Slingblade.
  13. I'm shocked.
  14. Were you in hibernation for '09?
  15. Don't worry Bum, I'm not trying to impugn your boy (though he is a flopping douchebag). Just pointing out that Frazier was as good as Kramer last year to show IG that he was important enough to make a 4 point swing. (Which I guess means Hummell is worth 40?) ETA: My bad on the "effective scorer" thing, should've said effective shooter.
  16. Frazier scored more than Kramer last year and was a more effective scorer.
  17. Robbie Hummel is at least ten times the player that Chester Fraizer is. The myth of Chester Frazier is unreal. Chester was a big part of the record the past few years. Having a point guard who could shoot a bit and we are a lot better. You trying to say Hummell couldn't have helped Purdue overcome a 40 point loss last year? And the whole part about Hummell playing 39 minutes in the first game? AT PURDUE? I have no clue how you reconcile last year's season with your belief that everyone on the team (except DMac) was garbage. How do you explain that we're so much worse this year with a point guard who can shoot the ball? EDIT: Snipped some stuff that will just cause the thread to run off track (further)
  18. You're underselling Illinois basketball's history. The issue with looking at it from a statewide population is that so much of the population is tied up in Chicago, and CPS players and the vultures that surround them are a cesspool. Illinois is never going to consistently get the CPS kids until they decide to lie down the with the dogs and risk more "lack of institutional control" calls.
  19. Nobody's happy with Illinois's record over the past 3 seasons.
  20. Just so I'm clear, a lack of Robbie Hummell is equivalent to an 18 point swing, but a lack of Chester Frazier(the guy who shut down Hummell in his 39 minutes the first go around) isn't equivalent to a 4 point swing.
  21. Pretty [expletive] amazing that Illinois was a 5 seed with a team full of role players.
  22. But, he's still not producing. How many years do we go between Tournament wins before we decide that enough is enough? So if Chester Frazier doesn't get hurt in practice last year you don't think Weber should be fired? I think Chester Frazier is a role player at best. I don't think he guaranteed crap against WKU last year. You don't think missing your senior leader and best defender makes up a 4 point difference? Do you think anybody on the team last year was any good?
  23. Haha, suck it Carolina
  24. Thanks for the heads up.
  25. And Paul didn't make a shot in the last 17 minutes of gameplay. How did he keep us in the game?
