  1. Hook em Horns
  2. No one's arguing this. However, I think the sport benefits from a higher level of play in other parts of the world. How does the US team dominating a team from Japan exhibit a higher level of play? (Or alternatively, a listless US team that doesn't want to be there, losing to a team from Japan?)
  3. I'm not necessarily for trading between the two leagues. I just like the thought of a true World Series. We already have a true world series. The best players in the world play in one league.
  4. I could see Brown getting decent support in 2011, although most likely not enough to put him in. I think Brown and Olerud are both going to be robbed. Wouldn't be shocked to see 1 or both fall off the 1st year.
  5. I kinda hope Blyleven doesn't get in next year so that he can get in his 15th year, and keep Morris out til the Vet Committee does something stupid.
  6. Did I miss something about how he was actually connected to steroids or is every fluke season by a guy this board doesn't like going to elicit a stupid response about steroids? Did not realize a steroid joke about Neal Cotts was one of your buttons. #-o Beyond that though, I feel it's more than reasonable to assume or at least question anyone with a vast jump in stats over the last 15 year period or so. So when a guy as a few awesome years, then goes to total crap...yea What about a vast jump in stats in the period before that?
  7. When you have a conference schedule that includes Washington, you don't need to up your schedule.
  8. Haha, I thought Mike Patrick was saying Plumlee was considered a 1st round pick. Woulda been nutty even for Patrick.
  9. Oh, the Plumlees were ugly as kids too.
  10. Yeah Cornell's last 2 possessions were just chucking the ball. No offense at all. I assume they were running one earlier in the game?
  11. I don't think that Cornell guy touched him. And that was a terrible shot by Cornell
  12. Couldn't that Barbasol commercial have gotten a guy who had actually shaved within the past 24 hours?
  13. It wasn't as altruistic as it sounds on the surface. He wanted off Montreal's turf, and collusion wouldn't let him. It was the union's way of busting collusion.
  14. Somewhere around there. In 4000 PAs.
  15. Didn't those people exist this year? When his totals jumped 11%?
  16. Blyleven will get in. Nobody gets that close without getting in. We'll see, clocks ticking I think he only gets 2 more years on. Blyleven jumped 11.5% this round. He's jumped ~26% over the last 3 rounds. And you think he won't pick up 1% over the next 2 years?
  17. Blyleven will get in. Nobody gets that close without getting in.
  18. I would never, ever vote for a DH for the hall. They are hardly even players. If Ozzie Smith can get into the hall for being world class at one baseball tool, a DH has a place in the hall. Yeah but he at least still had to hit. And he wasn't terrible at it. If you're not playing the whole game, the parts you are playing have to be devalued. There are also relief pitchers in the hall. Well Bruce Sutter shouldn't be at least. I'd have to look deeper at the others.
  19. I don't have too much of a problem with this in theory because there are pretty much never 10 viable candidates. If you want to throw a bone some guy's way so he has 1 or 2 votes, go crazy. If you're picking David Segui and omitting Barry Larkin, go [expletive] yourself.
  20. Is Appier that much worse than Jack Morris?
  21. Holy [expletive]
  22. As far as Weber "identifying" with the kids, I think that's a little overblown. Has Jim Boeheim ever looked like the type a kid could identify with? Grumpy old man Calhoun? Senile Lute? Deputy Dog Roy? Coach K? Thad Matta doesn't exactly look like a slick salesman himself. My viewpoint is the assistant has to be the one the kid indentifies with, sees as somebody he wants to spend 4 years with, the head coach is there to sell the program, sell the system, and sell the kid on what he can do for him.
  23. If we don't win a tournament game next season, Weber's seat is gonna be scalding. Regarding Jerrance, I'm hoping Chester or Dee will be ready to step in his place once he leaves. The timing probably won't work out for Dee who could play another 10 years in Europe if he wants, but Frazier seems like a possibility. I'm not saying either can step right in and be as successful as Jerrance has been, but I'd like having the young Illinois alum in one of the 3 spots, especially if it was one as charismatic as Dee.
  24. I think that it is more a reflection of the guy running the ship now more than anything. Had we hired Thad Matta or seomone like him, you still think that so many people would miss Self as much as we do now? It's a tough hypothetical. I know OSU fans aren't too happy right now with their performance the last 2 seasons. He's obviously done a better job with what he was given than Weber has. I like Matta more than Weber, but it's not like he was any more proven than Weber at the time of the hire.
