  1. Bud Selig has spent the majority of his reign as commissioner talking about how awful baseball is, everyone else is just following his lead.
  2. Plus Mark Grace doesn't like him. Sammy won't even be able to get his # retired til he's old and decrepit because of how embarrassing the reaction to him would be.
  3. I love posters who overreact to some rumor. We should have fired Hendry when he signed Ankiel, Posednick, Contreras, etc. As I 've posted before, Hendry gets bashed whether he makes a move or not. It's not a matter of whether he gets the deal done. The idea that these are the players he deems worthy of pursuing is very troubling.
  4. Why are you a Saints fan?
  5. Well here in the city all the hotels are calling it the start of Mardi Gras season and all the stands that have been set up say Mardi Gras on it. So Mardi Gras has started already then?
  6. Well that's the 30th, not the 31st. And, does anyone really consider a parade 17 days before Fat Tuesday the "start of Mardi Gras?"
  7. If you have the attention span, you should read this article by Posnanski. Iron Fisk Good luck. JoePoz is an awesome writer.
  8. Bourbon Street would be scary if the Saints win. Has Mardi Gras begun yet? it starts the Sunday after the Super Bowl and Drew Brees is the King of Bacchus for the parade this year....hmmm. Technically starts on the 31st What? No it doesn't.
  9. I don't think Ernie gets it. People are raving lunatics and wouldn't forgive him.
  10. I don't know he is, but he's probably a better center than Aaron Gray
  11. The biggest reason for our abysmal failure this year is that Mike Davis has completely disappeared since about game 6. What the [expletive] Mike? 0 points against Northwestern?? Are you [expletive] kidding me?
  12. Bill Cole is just terrible.
  13. WOST. SCENARIO. EVER. My friend is an Alabama football fan and a yankees fan. I swear I'll kill him if UK wins it. They won't even make the final 4.
  14. I really wish we got Evan Turner.
  15. RPI has them at #2, but they also have the ACC at 3 and SEC at 4, so that's...suspect. Pomeroy's got them at 4 which sounds about right.
  16. Yes that's what you're doing. If you're comparing them soph to soph then why are you disregarding Jones's horrendous shooting this year? The only thing Jones is comparable to Battle in is getting to the free throw line. I personally think Pritchard was the best player on the team last year. He just hasn't improved at all. (he's probably regressed even.)
  17. He probably shouldn't turn it over so much then. Verdell can't shoot and can't play the point. He's nothing like Talor Battle. I showed you the stats. If Verdell can't shoot....neither can Battle. Actually, hawkeye showed the stats that are relevant, the ones from this season when all his shooting #s have gotten worse as a result of being the best player on the team (like Battle) Why do you assume his shooting #s as a freshman are his true talent level, yet his ballhandling skills as a sophomore are what matter.
  18. They go hand in hand. A guy who was a masher is relying even more on god (or Dr.) given ability than your typical major league hitter. But your question was about a guy who hit homers vs a guy who couldn't even make AAA, so ability is clearly part of the discussion that you raised. Why is a guy who is a masher relying more on his given ability than the guy who hits singles? The singles hitter isn't the only other type of hitter. So are they using the same amount of ability or are you just not answering the question?

  21. Some fun quotes in those ESPN stories Kinda creepy. Was the clubhouse and coaching staff pissed at Mark Grace for the [expletive] eating grin he had shaking his hand and telling him to go back and touch 1B? The White Sox finished 2nd to the A's once. By 9 games. Maybe if Guillen wasn't such a shitty hitter, they could've made the world series. I bet Ron Kittle is pissed at you Ozzie. You're never gonna make it as a retired ballplayer acting like that Robin.
  22. I think there's a difference between knowing how it should be done, and physically being able to get it done. I always question the ability of star players to coach, with the possible exception of guys who were known as terrific tacticians. I can't imagine Sammy Sosa being able to teach hitting well. I would be similarly skeptical about McGwire. That's a different argument than the one posed by people bashing McGwire as hitting coach. They're framing it as the reason he can't be a good hitting coach is his hitting style, not that he was really good.
