  1. Given the market, I think pieces like McKinney equal another Dan Haren.
  2. you reverse racist weirdo. jim edmonds was fun as hell to watch. only in 2008 i wanted the cubs to get him and rolen so bad before the cardinals did. Scott Rolen was the first player I can remember really wanting the Cubs to acquire/being old enough to follow and understand FA/Trades. Mike Lansing
  3. i feel kinda bad for them I kinda don't. Their chili sucks and now so does their baseball team And their city
  4. Hopefully they move him to CF
  5. I mean, they're sitting at 2nd in the AL Central in FG's WAR projections. Of course they're sitting 10th in the AL overall.
  6. That's not a real person. IIRC, he was discussed as a fringe 40-man candidate one year. ETA: He was taken in rule 5, returned, and granted FA. Given his notoriety, I'm giving myself partial credit.
  7. For Montas, Johnson, and Thompson. They're gonna put Lawrie at 2b? Yipes
  8. The Royal pen was better than ours. The Royals also have more team speed and are better defensively. Our bullpen had more total WAR by a slim margin 5.4 vs. 5.3 and we had more players with WARs over 1 than them 3 vs. 1. The narrative that Cubs had a bad bullpen last year or have a bad or questionable one going forward (outside of expected bullpen variance/unpredictability) needs to stop. Our rotation also had a better ERA and FIP than the Mets. And we're replacing 35 starts from Wada, Richard, Beeler and others with a 3.5 WAR pitcher. Of course we didn't go into 2014 penciling 35 starts from Wada, Richard, Beeler, and Dan Haren's corpse either.
  9. Predicting baseball results is a fool's errand, but I have a hard time not seeing 2 NL East teams given they get to play the Phillies and Braves 38 times.
  10. Worked for Pat Knight...well "worked"
  11. Derwood gets one iPod stolen 8 years ago, and has refused to listen to music since.
  12. Le Batard is pretty smart by sportswriter standards
  13. Payroll differentials really weren't as much of a thing back then. My recollection is we were fairly in line. I'll have to try to hunt that down later.
  14. Yeah, approval is such a strong word.
  15. I mean, I'd love for the Cardinals to sell off and focus on 2018 for some reason, but I just don't see it as remotely realistic.
  16. There are going to be like 3 100 loss teams in the NL
  17. Well, everyone but the bum.
  18. When even the dopey, coach-loving announce team can't come up with reasoning for it, you know you've broken the scale. Long snapper was hurt, so it's at least defensible now. They punted twice and attempted a FG after that.
  19. When even the dopey, coach-loving announce team can't come up with reasoning for it, you know you've broken the scale.
  20. I think the kid is A-Rod's
  21. Villanueva has never been as good a prospect as Olt, and he was what the 3rd piece in a trade for a lesser player for 1/4 of the control? I don't think he's worth considering in a hypo trade proposal becuase he's not going to swing the pendulum much.
  22. one year sample size? I'm operating under the theory that Bosio brought Hammel to a new level of expected performance. Did The Wizard of Bos also bring Niese down to a new level of expected performance?
  23. We all get one chance to be the next Hoops, and you just passed on yours.
