  1. Oddly enough I figured out a couple weeks ago that Mike Franceca (mike and mad dog fame, complete Yankee homer, giants/parcells lapdog) is a Cutler fan and doesn't understand the nonstop criticism he receives. He also hung up on a caller who he thought was mocking him when he asked about Francesa's opinion about Al Alburquerque. You must mean Alberto Jose Alburquerque.
  2. then what is the point of the show? Their entire programming schedule is built around "traditional ways of thinking", why do they need to throw somebody in there to poo-poo? So old men don't throw their cane through their TVs
  3. You need let go of what Pujols has done in the past, and focus on what he's going to do in the future. If you sign him for 9 years, and he's elite for 4 of those but only good -- and vastly overpaid -- for the other 5, it's a bad deal. The absence of an immediately-available better option doesn't justify jumping into a bad deal. Sounds like a better deal than Mark Teixiera's.
  4. He's already in it.
  5. So if Sandusky offs himself tomorrow, the NCAA can never act on this? You're conflating both what the NCAA can do versus a school, and the repercussions for NCAA violations versus legal/moral violations. This isn't Jim O' Brien at Ohio State.
  6. It's still his fault for not putting forth the effort to understand the gravity of the situation. It's also still his fault that he fostered the kind of culture in a town that allowed someone to have unfettered access to victims in their schools, homes, his home and even PSU facilities. In a town where Paterno is god and football is everything, his right hand man had so much more leeway than the average pedophile. That lack of accountability is on Joe Pa. And I'm not talking about doddering old senile Joe Pa. I'm talking Joe Pa years ago when allegations first started coming out. Yeah, as fun as it is to paint Paterno as a rambling old fool who poops his pants with regularity(especially now), I have a hard time buying that 10 years ago he didn't realize that someone even fondling young boys = a horrible situation that needs to be dealt with. ETA: Or what gooney said (though the pants pooping still stands)
  7. i guess you see the video as making it seem like he doesn't care about the victims. i see something different. to each his own opinion. also i'm not sure how he could "make things worse" considering that he's being accused of being a despicable human being, complicit in allowing child rape, PSU football should get the death penalty, etc. unless he comes out and says that he supports child rape in all its forms, things aren't really going to get worse. I wouldn't say those accusations/suggestions have exactly gone mainstream. I have a hard time believing ESPN will be rushing to anything but the rosiest of judgments on Paterno, and those students cheering him on (for what exactly?) certainly aren't thinking the same thing. The best a Paterno supporter can go with from that video is the thought that he's clearly gone upstairs and has no concept of the gravity of the situation. Take away the sentence about the victims and you'd think it was a pep rally. Surreal.
  8. And if those guys don't become available, too bad so sad. Nevermind that Pujols's down season last year was better than each of their career averages (and better than all but one of Tex's seasons, Tex being the one of the two to actually hit free agency)
  9. Yep, this is why you don't let Joe Paterno have a press conference today Truffle. That video made things worse IMO
  10. Remember how I said it was disconcerting that Gillick's hand-chosen successor wasn't very good?
  11. Is everyone ok if we just pin this on Zook?
  12. Unless the punt is blocked, or the snap is dropped.
  13. I already said he won't make it to 86. Get in line.
  14. But Lake's Dominican.
  15. The most fun in all of this (aside from seeing the Cubs front office materialize) has been watching the dust-up among Red Sox fans. Some hilarious reading there. Funny, I always thought that our two fan bases were kind of kindred spirits. the cubs' system is just flush with guys with high ceilings who have achieved things at aa, so that should be no problem Seriously, the entirety of that list is what zero guys?
  16. Right or wrong, it's hard to believe the public persona of Paterno is accurate after something as horrifying as this comes out 10 years after the fact.
  17. Yes! We were laughing at that guy during the game. They showed him in the crowd and the Bears promptly converted a 3rd and long. I was hoping they'd go back to chubs after the completion. You're just begging to be shot up with a paintball gun.
  18. How much could McQueary have tamed it down for him? Isn't saying a kid was fondled or inappropriately touched bad enough for Paterno to do something further without having to hear about the actual penetration?
  19. What steps possibly need to be taken? Is it necessary for there to be a line in policy saying child rape is bad Should I not have done that? I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to plead ignorance on this thing, because if I had known that sort of thing was frowned upon...
  20. I thought only waiting 10 years is what got PSU into this mess.
  21. So what did Paterno think McQueary saw? Judging by the non-action by the AD, it seems safe to assume he either thought nothing came of it, and then saw fit to employ the guy who falsely accused his good friend of sexual assault for the next 10 years OR thought McQueary was right and didn't feel the need to do anything more than tell the AD.
  22. Manslaughterer. He also didn't bury the body underneath the JAC.
  23. it's lovely. quite a bit better than milwaukee. you should consider a lifestyle change. whoa really? because the grand jury indictment includes only one sexual assault after 2002. if you are withholding information i suggest turning that over to the police immediately. He reported it to this board, fulfilling his legal obligation. That's not how it works, unless you're saying that the board administration is legally obligated to report it. So I hope Tim contacts the authorities and tells them that a member of this community has information on several incidents of child abuse during the past few years. Where has that guy been?
  24. Are they doing it again? i'm sure. he just needs to marry some groupie and forget about love. Then why would he get married?
  25. Now Jay Paterno is setting up a press conference off-campus for Joe??
