    Isn't that accounted for in the WAR? In the historical WARs, yes. IMO the better balance means the future WARs should trend better. Why? Does a decline phase not affect baserunning and defense??

    As I've said repeatedly, I'm willing to stick my neck out on a massive contract. Just not for either of these two guys, on anything longer than 6 years. I mentioned Teix and Gonzalez as two guys I would have been happy to sign at the years and dollars they received. Elite offensive, elite defensive, young and in shape players are out there -- just not this offseason. How's that Teix contract working out? You realize this does not support the argument for signing Fielder, right? Sure it does. Your ideal, perfect world scenario is going to be a terrible contract under your narrow-minded definition. In retrospect you wouldn't sign him and would sign Jay Gibbons to play 1B, and your team would be terrible.

    How do you feel about Ron Santo? I'm not following. Santo was more of a loveable goof as an announcer. I've heard stories that he was disliked for various reasons as a player, but that was a time when it wasn't in fashion for the media to go after celebrities and politicians. If so, there wouldn't celebrity scandal rags to keep up with them. If they did try to make a name for themselves or expose someone of power, they were eithe given hush money or dealt with as many conspiracy theorisits think that the CIA did Marilyn Monroe, or course that would pertain more to politicians than general celebs. lol what I was hoping we'd all agree to pretend that never happened.

    I find it hard to believe that everyone in college football knew Sandusky was a scumbag and there was never anything brought to light about it.

    I thought he was "worth" like $19-20m a year based on his WAR with the Yankees. Maybe thanks to UZR, his offense took a huge drop-off after the first season, and then declined further. Using the davearm decline theory, he should be replacement level by next season.

    I hate to defend these guys if it turns out they had any prior knowledge, but I think of a board of directors for a charity loaded with celebrities like that as pretty damn hands off. (pardon the phrase) I can't imagine Cal Ripken was doing much more than making an appearance or 2 per year and giving the occassional donation.

    I've mentioned it before that if Carlos Zambrano did some of the things Ted Lilly did they'd be marks against him, instead it makes Lilly a bulldog who just wants to win.
