  1. The last time the top ACC team finished higher than the top Big Ten team in the BCS was 2000 [expletive] 4. Stop embarrassing yourself.
  2. 2 and it's not even close What kind of question is that? I'd root for the Cardinals over the Reds, and even if I wouldn't I'd take 2.
  3. I wouldn't say I've "come around," but I'm really looking forward to watching tonight.
  4. Isn't the key word in his statement valuable or value? You aren't going to find too many values when signing a free agent, especially one of the top free agents in the class. He's obviously going to participate in free agency as he did so last year. I think the idea is to participate by obtaining the best values available relative to the free market as a whole. Value is the key word but it shouldn't be. The goal is not to make the most cost-efficient roster. It is to create the most productive roster you can, given your budget. I hate that it looks like Theo is more interested in proving he can do it on the cheap than that he can do it at all. Remember how people were worried that Friedman would come here and do this exact thing?

That's a great way to have your team peak at 74 wins.
  6. And stupid point number 2. That's just dumb fandom right there. You'd gladly sit through 3 more years of sucking? That's absurd. Show me a team in the playoffs who didn't have to suffer through 4 100 loss seasons before becoming good.
  7. For how cheaply Ramirez came, I have a hard time seeing an issue with that contract even without hindsight It wouldn't have been egregious, but I don't see a whole lot of benefit either. As a comparison, Soriano has 2/36 left on his deal, just had a big bounceback year (4.3 fWAR), and most people are apathetic at best to his presence on future rosters. Even with the bounceback, you're paying pretty big money to a guy who you can't really expect star performance from, and hasn't been consistent enough(in performance or health) to bank on less than star performance either. The same applies to Ramirez. He has 2/30 left on his deal, just had a big bounceback year, but I'm hesitant to think he's capable of star performance going forward, and he's not so far removed from putting up a combined 2.7 WAR across two injury plagued seasons. Why would we only pay him 6M this season?

  9. That doesn't stop anybody from calling DRose an idiot. #branehurding
  10. Drunk Mark Grace being in a one man car wreck, now that's entertainment.
  11. They were a much better fit for a guy tring to build value on a 1-year deal than the Cubs were. Not with hindsight considering the Cubs would've traded him in July, meaning the team who signs him wouldn't lose a draft pick this offseason.
  12. Why would you like to think that? 1/3 of the teams in a league make the playoffs. If you are .500 at the deadline, you should not be selling off. Because I think their plan from the beginning was to clean house and start fresh, while maximizing the value of their current assets to get as much as possible for them. Part of it backfired on them when Garza and Marmol got injured and Dempster didn't want to go to Atlanta, but they still made out with a couple top 10 prospects in Villanueva and Vizcaino. And I like to think that if they had a plan from the beginning they'd stick to it if every gamble broke right for them just as it did when almost everything broke wrong for them. What if they were tied for the wild card at 4 games over? You'd be in favor of them punting a shot at the playoffs so we could get a couple top 100 prospects?

  14. No.
  15. I think when they feel they have developed enough guys from within and they are ready to contribute to the major league roster you will see the flood gates open and there really won't be any sort of monetary limitations to acuqire a guy through FA/trade if the FO deems it necessary to add a player(s). If there won't be any monetary restrictions on the 2016 budget, why are we so worried that we may hamstring it with a 15M player who would just be a little above average instead of a star? What if there is a star available that year during FA but we have one of those $15m above average players at his position because this year or next (or whenever) we spent just to spend because we had the money even though we knew we weren't going to compete and we couldn't add that star player because of it? Then you trade the above average player, collect the delicious prospects and sign the star who will never actually be available.
  16. Needs more BOY GENIUS

  19. Wouldn't that set it at ~38 wins? Then wouldn't the average team have 61 wins? I have a learning disability you jerk
  20. Wouldn't that set it at ~38 wins?
  21. I'll use live action smilies and possibly some porn for the landmark bajillionth one. I hope it's not the porn equivalent of the 2013 team you want.
  22. THANK GOD HE GOT HIS CHANCE GIVE GREENBERG ONE MORE AB!! HE DESERVES A HIT KEEP GIVING HIM ABS UNTIL HE GETS THE HIT HE DESERVES
  23. Wait until the day in the offseason when it becomes irrevocably clear that they plan on doing the same thing for next season? Then I can get excited about following high school baseball for our draft pick, and monitoring the hilarious fecal league.
