  1. And why is this now happening?
  2. Why is this happening?
  3. Does Tunney get elected by the voters, or does he get picked by the Mayor? Just wondering, don't know how the politics do in Chicago. If he is voted by the voters, then do what I would do. Vote him out in the next election. It's voting but he has pretty strong support in the Ward despite this. I believe his ward also covers Boystown and he is the first openly gay alderman. Edit: nevermind the alderman of the 46th ward is also gay If I remember correctly, he's run unopposed for years and years. He's [expletive] at the end of this term. How do you figure?
  4. Please check my replies from last year before saying everyone. Wrong challenge Sulley
  5. Only one I really cared about. Would have been stupid. I feel like that was a bluff demand that they never really wanted. I do wonder if that holds for concerts though. McCartney had fireworks going off at 1030 on a Monday.
  6. I usually just devote my Tunney-related thought to hoping that he falls victim to spontaneous human combustion. I assumed Brandon meant lose his life.
  7. Well, there are 2 available externally this offseason at a position where we have nobody blocking them...
  8. Cubs have their best record since they were 2-2. They have a run differential of +1 They are 27-22 against teams outside the NL Central.
  9. Hot streak Soriano is like the most fun player in baseball
  10. Maybe part of that broken past contributed to an inability to be allowed into Canada. More on Lang's broken past: http://www.idahostatesman.com/2013/07/08/2646581/lang-faces-a-different-struggle.html Maybe one of the two Treys don't have their passport. That was a problem for the great Mark Pawelek. Canada won't let you in if you have a DUI in (I think) the last 10 years, so that could certainly be a possibility. It's why the NFL won't expand there
  11. So you're saying it doesn't matter that the scoreboard is functional in that capacity. If you want to argue down that route, they may as well just have a giant blown up picture of the scoreboard up there that provides no function. But that wouldn't appeal to people.
  12. So you're saying it doesn't matter that the scoreboard is functional in that capacity.
  13. I'd get over it, and winning cures all, but it would hurt Wrigley's image and take a tiny chunk out of attendance until they start being good at sports again(soon please)
  14. Which I'm totally fine with, but that doesn't jibe with what you said about letting somebody else pay for Garza, we can just keep signing mid-level guys. The front office has been very good at finding those guys, but I don't think it's something you can count on year in year out. If you're serious about trying next year, you want to have some certainty as to what a guy's going to do and not say hey this guy has really good peripherals but hasn't put it together on the field, let's sign him and watch your season tank because the guy still sucks. There's being a believer in the front office and there's putting unrealistic expectations on them to consistently find undervalued assets every offseason.
  15. And then they hang up and extend him. Garza is Feldman with better stuff and the same results. Let's let someone else pay for his stuff and name, probably fill a rotation spot for several years, then go get next year's Feldman for half the price and be way better off. There's not an endless line of Feldmans waiting to sign cheap 1 year deals. Cost certainty and not having to sign 3 starting pitchers per offseason matters.
  16. Robinson's first baseman (Was that Powell?) didn't give him any help on that stretch.
  17. Why would the Red Sox give up cost-controlled Josh Beckett?
  18. You'll notice I haven't defended Castro much since his untimely death this season. There's a certain level of discouragement from a player who spends that many years on the same level and his end results don't get any better. ETA: There's also a pretty sizable difference in what type of product Castro and Vitters were when they entered the Cubs system (not to mention who knows what they were being taught) compared to Porcello upon entering Detroit's
  19. I mean...he's been terrible this year, but -He had a nearly impossiblly low BABIP -He was signed cheaply for next season -The return on the trade will almost certainly suck I guess I'm hoping for IFA dollars? ETA: Or not
  20. Is it? I thought he was more of a refined, pitchibility type from the time he was drafted. Am I wrong about that? Re-reading the 2007 draft thread, there's multiple mentions of his 95+ fastball and plus changeup, and even a comparison to Verlander(before the Tigers drafted him). I think the fact that he couldn't strike anyone out until late April of this season has clouded the perception of his stuff.
  21. So when the Ricketts add on a huge financial burden over the next 5 years for stadium rehabs, we'll somehow be in a better financial state? And somehow Snidley Zell managed to pull the wool over those backwoods simpleton Rickettses who managed to pull the wool over the infantile Epstein? From what I read, it limits the amount they're available to spend on payroll. It doesn't mean Ricketts is tapped out. It gave Zell more money this way somehow. At any rate, it keeps them from paying it down quickly. The renovations are a cash deal as it is, from everything I've read and are considered a separate entity that won't do anything but help the baseball ops department by increasing revenue streams, potentially as soon as they begin. I mean don't get me wrong, I'd rather Ricketts just be profoundly dumb than cheap, I just find it quite disconcerting that payroll is still going down 3 years after the sale.
  22. he's -arguably a better pitcher right now, than Garza -under team control for another 2-1/2 years (and an ideal extension candidate) -pitching the best ball of his career -still just 24 i guess i'd have minor concerns with his hittability(?) from the stretch, but that seems like something that could be ironed out; best of all he's somebody that actually legitimately improves our '14 chances, but that might be a negative, given your childlike amusement at all those uproarious '2017!' jokes edit: nm tranny beat me to like half of these points As soon as people stop being giddy about the "process" and post about "starting to contend" in 2015, I'll stop criticizing them.
