  1. I think what's skewing his perception is all of the Cubs/Tanaka chatter of the last couple of days combined with the other big rumor...but that's just me. There's suddenly a lot of Cubs chatter *and* there's good reasons why all the other big teams might be out: Yankees - Thanks to Rodriguez suspension, actually have a chance to reset luxury tax. Angels - Keep insisting they aren't really in Dodgers - May have finally reached their limit with Kershaw extension None of those things are actually surprises. All of them were already known. I think it is more fans just not thinking the Cubs are going to do anything. What? The Kershaw extension wasn't done until yesterday and came pretty much out of nowhere in terms of timing (i.e. pretty sure nobody knew if it would happen before Tanaka's deadline or not). The Yankees getting bailed out of the ARod money was very very much in question. I hadn't seen it elsewhere on here, but the Dodgers' mega TV deal was finally given official approval. Not that I think it played too large a role, but it could've been the final push to get Kershaw done.
  2. It's hard for me to get a great handle on how that would compare since I'm pretty uncertain about Tanaka's final value, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was only a small amount(4-6 million) more than Tanaka given the late date and draft compensation. More than that though, I don't think it's 2+2=3 considering the Yankees currently have David Phelps and Michael Pineda set to start 40% of their games, with even worse options as injury fill-ins. I was talking about the Cubs with regards to 2+2=3. I think Garza and Jimenez are still out there because everyone's waiting on Tanaka, we could see a mini-bidding war over them once Tanaka's situation gets resolved.
  3. Sesmic? Is Billy Joel putting on weight again? No, he's just gonna crash his car through the LF wall and the bleachers are gonna crumble Was Lance Briggs not available?
  4. I have no idea how to even begin to guess what kind of contracts Garza and Jimenez will get, but I'd imagine they wind up a decent amount more AAV than Tanaka(including posting fee) In terms of value, I also think it's a case of 2+2=3
  5. LOL hey man, you seem a bit too interested in the Clark with a dick pictures. Kind of getting a weird vibe. I'm coming to your house. To burn it down?
  6. Ugh Purdue is just the most boring everything.
  7. Unless of course the news is that Sandberg is returning as manager
  8. WHAT NEWS, SSR??! Something something seismic something
  9. If it's true, I'd guess it's being announced at the convention. Yeah, something huge that's not player related at this point makes the most sense being announced at the convention. It makes more sense to me being announced today, prior to the convention, so it dominates headlines going into the start of the convention. Well, it's a pretty barren convention in terms of announcements, or really just good news period, so I can see why they'd want to unleash it then. I'd think the type of crowd you get at the cubs convention wouldn't be impressed by that news
  10. Because it's "part of the game" and presumably they will claim it cuts down on injuries. I'd guess that it happens so frequently that they don't want constant reviews/overturns
  11. I gave him an F for his player value fluctuating.
  12. I assume Butler went 60:19 and minute totals of 60 or more just break yahoo? DeRozan went for 60 even in '12 according to basketball-reference. If their numbers can be believed, this would be the most since Jalen Rose went for 61 in '01
  13. Over just 7 years, with a 5-year opt-out. He'd be 31 after that opt-out. Yeesh. Even hitting the market at 33 could be insane for him with the enormous caveat of being healthy at the time.
  14. Jesse Rogers @ESPNChiCubs It was this point @MLBBruceLevine informed him he was talking to a coat rack.
  15. Well Kyle is the "greatest" at what he does. I mean, quantity wise. is that a fat joke I didn't say Erik...Hey, Where is Erik??
  16. Now that really destroys his credibility And then Kyle told 2 people, and they told 2 people, and pretty soon Roast finally gets his big break in journalism, but with thecollegiatecub shut down he has no outlet for it. Suddenly we're crediting @thekapman for the big scoop
  17. Well Kyle is the "greatest" at what he does. I mean, quantity wise.
  18. We don't have a 1B worth a damn at AAA do we?
  19. lmao I would LOVE it if they sprang No. 1 on us out of nowhere. now i hope that's it. I wondered what was going on under that big tarp out in Rosement for the last year.
  20. I PM'd Tim and one other poster with the request that they not share the info or acknowledge that I told them (which I guess we can negate now because I'd like to head this off before it turns on me completely). Since it's negated... it was me. You all can shower me with attention in hopes that I'll budge and share this amazing nugget of information. You don't seem the type to share other people's leaks with the crowd. Wow...that almost worked. [expletive] you guys, I was proud of this.
  21. I have no idea how the contracts are structured, but there are probably just enough day games to satisfy the allotment that were shown on WGN. ETA: Quick count has 67 day games this coming season, but there are a handful of TBD games, a few of which are likely to wind up as day games. Though I didn't account for any games picked up by FOX or ESPN on Saturdays and Sundays.

  23. Were you able to nail anything down for him Kyle?
  24. TT, how do you feel about a message board gossiper twice removed being secretive?
