  1. Sign Tanaka and trade Shark the next day? That was my theory before any TV deal news broke. I think people need to realize our starting OF is Lake-Sweeney-Schierholtz backed up by (Josh Vitters and Justin Ruggiano) before being worried about winning too many games.
  2. If we sign him to that contract he'll have more money that @poortomricketts. (Getting them in before the tv deal)
  3. Has anyone asked any questions about growing mustaches?
  4. Seems like a huge risk to me, at that price. Not every player that jumps has the impact of Ichiro...there's been quite a few, expensive, flameouts. Sure. But what are we going to do with that $25m that isn't risk? Save it for the next time a really good 25 year old who plays our biggest organizational position of need hits the fa market
  5. You're usually top 10 in payroll which means you have the money to win. Who are you talking to?
  6. Made the same mistake I always make. Went for someone slightly better looking than me at the expense of any shred of compatibility. Bored out of my mind and would rather have been home internetting and refreshing for Tanaka rumors. Did you tell her that?
  7. 3 hours from now, local news will be done and the opening night of the convention will be complete, so clock's tickin' Kyle... The fate of your request now depends on how good Kyle's date goes. http://www.realdatasf.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/magic_8_ball_3.png
  8. Yes death to those stupid [expletive] Cuba jerseys. Looks like a 16 inch jersey.
  9. White guys say things like this gives me a boner and black guys say things like I ate a plate full of jelly while watching the Transformers movie.
  10. I hope everyone else can tweak their swings too
  11. 45 degree boner for me Incidentally, according to the interwebs, it would take a 40-inch boner to make the average human man to pass out. Tanaka's got me at 35 right now, and the actual signing of him might get me the last five. I'll never understand white guys talking having boners to non-sexual things. Damn this post gets me hard
  12. North already convinced me he's terrible
  13. I don't know how you get us to a .500 club without huge leaps from Castro and Rizzo. The OF is nightmare fuel
  14. Jed says they have not had hands tied on budget. Investment in minors and front office staff took $$$. Does have $$$ for majors roster now. Castro been living with Cubs trainer for past 2 months. Didn't come to spring training in shape. Physical development to improve power #'s. Dodged question of 'lifestyle/attitude change." Would not commit to Shark as 1-2 or even 3. Rizzo needs improvement as 2 strike hitter. Tanaka negotiations still going on. I didn't listen to the Hoyer interview, but at the season ticket forum, Theo mentioned it was Castro that came to them and asked for Buss to come live with him(next door I believe), so it wasn't like this was forced upon him. And if Hoyer said they didn't have their hands tied on the budget, he's either lying, or they didn't want to win the last 2 seasons. But considering he said they have money for the majors roster now, then yes Jed, your hands were tied on the budget.
  15. This was almost certainly Sean May There's some internet speculation that it's Hansbrough. Wordin it "early in her 10-year tenure" makes me think they'd have been gone shortly after she started. Hansbrough was at UNC until 2009. Add in that his father's a doctor, and his brother transferred into ND, I think it's laugh at the stupid white hillbilly in effect. This opposed to my rational belief that it's Sean May

  17. Just keep the DuCross Brothers away from her Hahahaha http://www.nativethreads.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/ducross.png Problem, bro??
  18. Just keep the DuCross Brothers away from her
  19. lolwut Sounds like something Ned Colletti would do Instantly my first thought. They'll just pay him 250M now to make up for it.
  20. She's a Chicago reporter. I can't remember where now, but she's been all over the place. I'm legit excited, but probably prematurely. She's also the only media member to follow @PoorTomRicketts
  21. It's collectively bargained as a whole. Think of it the same as the national TV deal. There are no internet media rights for the Cubs to sell. Could they start their own online porn site? Something something Clark something I'm sorry we were looking for a davell joke

  23. I think what's skewing his perception is all of the Cubs/Tanaka chatter of the last couple of days combined with the other big rumor...but that's just me. There's suddenly a lot of Cubs chatter *and* there's good reasons why all the other big teams might be out: Yankees - Thanks to Rodriguez suspension, actually have a chance to reset luxury tax. Angels - Keep insisting they aren't really in Dodgers - May have finally reached their limit with Kershaw extension None of those things are actually surprises. All of them were already known. I think it is more fans just not thinking the Cubs are going to do anything. What? The Kershaw extension wasn't done until yesterday and came pretty much out of nowhere in terms of timing (i.e. pretty sure nobody knew if it would happen before Tanaka's deadline or not). The Yankees getting bailed out of the ARod money was very very much in question. I hadn't seen it elsewhere on here, but the Dodgers' mega TV deal was finally given official approval. Not that I think it played too large a role, but it could've been the final push to get Kershaw done.
  24. It's hard for me to get a great handle on how that would compare since I'm pretty uncertain about Tanaka's final value, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was only a small amount(4-6 million) more than Tanaka given the late date and draft compensation. More than that though, I don't think it's 2+2=3 considering the Yankees currently have David Phelps and Michael Pineda set to start 40% of their games, with even worse options as injury fill-ins. I was talking about the Cubs with regards to 2+2=3. I think Garza and Jimenez are still out there because everyone's waiting on Tanaka, we could see a mini-bidding war over them once Tanaka's situation gets resolved.
