I feel like that's been standard with these IFA contracts where you get out early. I'm pretty sure Matsui and Kosuke(lol) had it as well. Additionally, I'm not Dave Cameron, it's literally his job to know these things. Those guys weren't FA in the QO era though, there's a lot less semantical difference in non-tender v. free agent without it. Anyway I wasn't asking to criticize, I was just surprised by it and wasn't sure if it was common knowledge I missed. They couldn't offer arb to secure a compensatory pick. It's the same idea, you get early FA and you don't have a draft pick dragging down your FA contract.
