  1. He's in the 3rd year of his contract.
  2. Boras. And I've never seen anything definitive on Soler's contract, so it could be like Cespedes' contract. Given the length, it wouldn't surprise me. Why would the fact that he has a 9 year deal make it more likely that he gets auto free agency before 6 years? Those clauses are incredibly rare and have only been for guys expected to start in the bigs.
  3. Then I guess I don't understand why the FO is ok with not gaming service time with Soler and Baez, but look like they're going to with Bryant

  5. yeah, it's an awful system and hopefully major league baseball addresses it in the next CBA. it makes for bad headlines when teams are holding down prospects like wil myers, desmond jennings, george springer, gregory polanco, kris bryant, etc, just to set their arbitration clocks back by a season. and not just the bad headlines; mlb should want exciting young players to be up playing in front of big crowds when they're ready for the top level. But the MLBPA has no interest in losing veteran jobs sooner than they need to.
  6. It's pretty widely accepted that Soler can opt into arbitration once he's eligible. He'll only get paid at the level of his ML contract if he sucks. And you're obviously preaching to the choir about the value of keeping him down to gain an extra year. I guess I just don't understand why everyone assumes Soler will be up this year, but Bryant will be kept down to get the extra year.
  7. Hopefully Jaxon is the Hall brother that disappeared by D2
  8. Because unless there is some clause that has gone unreported for the last 2 years, Soler won't become a FA until after 2021 if they don't call him up until late April I thought that was Bryant. Since Soler wasn't drafted why would he have something similar? I thought they could bring him up at any time. Unless you have it explicitly written into your contract that you're non-tendered after the expiration of your major league contract(like Matsui and Cespedes) you still have to have 6 full years service time before becoming a FA ETA: For example, Dayan Viciedo signed a major league contract for 4/10 through 2012. He remains under their control and went through arbitration this past offseaosn.

  10. I'd say $$$, but why is Baez up?
  11. Yeah those Maeda's family reunion jokes will be funny for about never
  12. Trust in AZPhil http://www.thecubreporter.com/cubs-40-man-roster I am intrigued by his note on Wada though.
  13. Hopes: Lester/Arrieta/Maeda/Wood/Hendricks Expectations: Arrieta/McCarthy/Wood/Jackson/Hendricks and sadness
  14. Still going to go to the game afterward? If the Purple Line express is running on time, probably. So you won't be going to the game afterward
  15. Yes, with their rapid movement and at their current projection rates, Cameron has them as league average relievers for their age 36 seasons and the first quarter of their age 37 seasons as well. Can't believe we traded 12 years of control for 4. Will Turner even provide surplus value on his contract?
  16. Then the Cubs have unreasonable expectations about what Hamels should return too Do they? Hamels is signed for 4/96 after this year. He's a 4 fWAR pitcher on the wrong side of 30 with recent injury issues. He's worth almost exactly what he's getting paid. If the Cubs want to acquire Hamels, they need to do so for a prospect cost of less than they feel Lester and Scherzer are likely to overpaid by. Otherwise, what's the point? Almora straight up would probably be just about an even match for that figure, but when was the last time you saw a guy like Hamels traded straight up for a guy in the middle of a team's top 10 list? Amaro is going to insist on other good prospects in the deal. I don't see our front office doing it. And I don't think they're wrong. Thanks Dave Cameron Fair enough. The only real advantage Hamels has over his peers is the length of his contract. Scherzer and Lester have higher ceilings, and can probably be acquired for something like 6/144. (That's the same AAV as Hamels). I'd rather see the Cubs flex their financial muscle a bit. The prospects can be better used elsewhere, to acquire something harder to get (Stanton, maybe). I'd be pretty shocked to see Scherzer sign for 6/144. I have no [expletive] idea what to think of what Lester will get
  17. I always feel like I want to watch Javyyyyyyyyyyy
  18. How about 30th ranked prospect Danny Lockhart?
  19. There's no reason they should have to give up anything decent. The Marlins have no leverage here. I've seen this from several people, but the Marlins do have some leverage over the Cubs. If Turner gets pulled back he will go on irrevocable waivers. At that point the Rockies and the Dbacks would have the option of picking him up for nothing. Colorado could certainly change their minds about him, but I am certain he wouldn't get past Arizona. It's leverage that gains the Marlins nothing though.
  20. There's no reason they should have to give up anything decent. The Marlins have no leverage here. The Marlins have leverage in that they'd probable be better off optioning some middle reliever and stashing Turner at the pen for now and let him work things out during the OS and ST. Calling them contenders is a stretch, and they're about 3 weeks away from roster expansion. To be honest, with this type of waiver, I'm not sure if they have the ability to re-roster him if no deal happens between now and whoever the negation period expires or he goes back through waivers. If that happens, D Backs are now % points behind us can and likely would snatch him up. Good thing you said they should re-roster him then. And no, they can't as long as they add Penny to the 40 man as expected this Saturday.
  21. lol those Soler and Bryant lines. I WANT THEM NOW YOU BASTARDS
  22. Welp, TIL Larry Beinfest is no longer with the Marlins.
