  1. Yeah, probably need to stop that. Guys without positions need to have absolutely elite bats. He has never put up elite numbers. Probably not going to at this point. So someone with a low K rate, high walk rate, and good power potential can't be sold a valuable trade chip? Valuable? Yes. Great? No, which is what I responded to and agreed with. He's slightly better than a Mike Olt type in the Garza trade. He's already a more polished hitter than Olt. So is Roast
  2. Yet now that the game is more global than ever it's somehow less talented than when there were like 4 Eastern Europeans in the league?
  3. The NBA is currently the least talented it's ever been. There are 0(!!) players from the 50 greatest players ever list playing today.
  4. No. He'll never get the same kind of credit Jordan does, deservedly or not. Jordan gets credit for "making" Pippen. Nobody heard of Scottie until he became great alongside Jordan. If LeBron wins 6, it will be alongside some bonafide stars. Wade, Bosh, Love, Irving are all top 5 picks that he will have joined after all were very good-to-elite players. Plus, I feel Jordan has more of a story. LeBron was always the best. As a kid, in HS, as a rookie. Jordan was cut from his HS team, made a big shot as a freshman when he was the 3rd or 4th fiddle on his own team. He was not the #1 pick (wasn't even the #1 prospect, Olajuwon was) and joined the NBA at the highest level of talent it has ever been at. Just because it's when you grew up doesn't make the 80s the most talented the NBA has ever been
  5. Then the Cubs have unreasonable expectations about what Hamels should return too
  6. Hendricks would never make it through waivers. Well he'd only need to pass the Rockies and D-Backs, but you're probably right.
  7. I believe Hamels could still block it. I'm pretty sure we discussed this regarding Soriano in years past
  8. I think it's pretty good bet Lester gets a 6th year. Personally, I want both.
  9. What!? Do they think they are still in the playoff race or something? And, if so... Brad Penny? That's who they are using to replace Turner? The 36-year-old who hasn't pitched in two years and hasn't had a sub-5 FIP or ERA since 2010? They just traded a top-100 prospect, who was drafted 6th overall a year ago, and another guy that was a top-100 guy before the season plus a comp pick for a guy in Cosart with a career 1.26 K/BB rate. I mean, Cosart has a worse FIP and xFIP than Turner this year. Sure, Turner's fortune hasn't been all because of bad BABIP luck. But, they are essentially the same pitcher right now, except Turner is slightly younger and doesn't have any options left. So, I was already kinda confused, but... Brad Penny? And why not just put Turner in the pen? I have no idea what the Marlins are doing. But, their front office is an absolute joke, when you look at this, the Cosart trade, and the Bryan Morris trade. They must not look at analytics, like, at all. Well, if Marisnick hadn't exhausted his rookie eligibility this year, he'd be nowhere near a top 100 list. He's going on 200 PAs of pathetic major league performance and was fairly meh in AAA this season. It's not as if Cosart is without a pedigree to himself. And calling Cosart and Turner the same pitcher because their FIPs match up is so lazy. Bryan Morris has been pretty [expletive] fantastic since coming over, but yeah that trade appeared screwy, but it's quite possible teams don't value draft picks in the 30s(and I'm not certain they should?) Don't get me wrong, I think it's a dumb move to dump Turner to get Flynn on the 25 man or Penny on the 40 man, but talking about the Marlins FO being an absolute joke with their track record while working for the worst owner in professional sports(who no doubt is behind this "playoff push") is pretty damn stupid.
  10. I thought they only had 2 days to make a trade anyway. But now if they pulled him back they'd have no option but to put him on irrevocable waivers which gives him away for free. Without adding Penny they'd have the option to reinstate him to the 40(and 25-man) roster after 10 days.
  11. Eh? His progression has been fairly normal
  12. what kind of reasonable person thinks this is not two words??? Noah Webster?
  13. Brett's been auditioning for a job at Vineline for the last 10 months or so.
  14. Brad penny is being added to the Marlins 40 man roster this weekend so the marlins will no longer have the option to re add turner
  15. Perhaps the lovely neighborhood instead
  16. Stupid cubs weren't the worst team in the league when Bryce Harper came out
  17. The bust option would give the a 50M payroll
  18. Went searching for pre-draft references on here. There was an mlb.com mock that had us taking him at one point and a lot of people here liked him. But most importantly there was this: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54498&p=2201849&hilit=trout#p2201849
  19. Arguello is an idiot.
  20. DFA Brett Jackson At least Jackson has an option left. They'll both almost certainly be gone this offseason, but I can't imagine a scenario where either make the team out of ST. Outright Vitters now, if somebody claims him, oh well.
  21. Yup. And now he's gonna be ours for a whole lot less Hopefully this works out better than when we got Olt for a whole lot less.
  22. Well you need a 25 man spot and 40 man spot so you could have to do both. Or just DFA Villanueva and make it one move. I'd guess Villanueva stays around as a veteran presence.
