  1. 2009 was really the only WS they won under the "buy all the FAs" strategy. Their successes in the late 90's were largely from a home grown operation. They still acquired a [expletive] of players from other teams: O' Neill Martinez Brosius Knoblauch Boggs Curtis Justice Raines Strawberry Cone El Duque Wells Clemens Stanton Nelson Irabu Gooden Rogers Key These guys accounted for ~half of their fWAR from '96-'00 Homegrown talent accounted for ~half of their fWAR '09
  2. He's talking about the child, Brett would never say a bad word about a fellow blogger besides maybe Yellon.
  3. The only plausible explanation I can come up with is they have a replacement in the bag (but not yet announced) I'm afraid the replacement in the bag is stupid Felix Doubront
  4. They didn't draft anyone last year when they were clearly still [expletive] around at the major league level, why would they draft somebody now when they'll accidentally win 75 games?
  5. If Baylor wins, I don't see a huge difference between the resumes of Baylor and TCU and the committee thinks TCU is two spots better than OSU. I do think Baylor should be ahead of OSU right now though also. I think this will be irrelevant on Sunday due to one or more of these teams going down. Eh, much worse loss (WVA rather than [to be fair], Baylor) and Baylor played nobody non-con, TCU beat Minnesota rather easily. But I agree with you, I think GA Tech and KSU win and make it academic.
  6. I had the 11th most points out of 12 teams, and wound up the 4 seed, and that's way more satisfying than Tree's stupid story.
  7. Egwu has been utterly worthless on offense
  8. Wright was the best lefty on our 40 man roster. Muskat said earlier today we were tendering all 10 players's contracts. She is worthless.
  9. Maybe they were afraid of a terrible charge call like that.
  10. OSU is above Baylor right now, and Wisconsin on a neutral field shouldn't be viewed as a worse win than KSU @ home. ETA: OSU's dead QB is a point in their favor if they win with a guy in his first game as QB
  11. They'd probably jump TCU. A win over Iowa St. isn't going to help their resume at all. I still think Bama, Oregon, FSU and Baylor are in with wins, OSU needs one of the first three to lose (Baylor losing doesn't help them) and TCU either needs Baylor to go down or two of the other four. I have a hard time seeing 1 loss Baylor jumping 1 loss OSU
  12. Georgia Tech would be their best win of the season. All it means is FSU will absolutely not make it with 1 loss no matter what happens
  13. IDK if this means we're meeting with him again or if this is just stuff that gets communicated over the phone or what...but it sure seems like it'd be another meeting. It certainly sounds like this diffutes the report that the Cubs aren't confident in signing him. They seem to be pulling out all the stops because they think they can get him. Just like Tanaka
  14. i can't believe anyone thinks a veteran player would give much of a [expletive] about the cubs' farm system ranking. these guys aren't idiots. a veteran player like lester is more likely to come to a team that's on the upswing with a lot of positive buzz (cubs right now) than go to the cubs of 3-4 years ago, who were just as lousy but were almost completely bereft of young talent. Who are the Cubs of 3-4 years ago in this scenario? http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/2011.shtml Oh, then I agree, that team probably doesn't stand much of a chance beating us out for Jon Lester.

  16. It's been 17 years since Nebraksa won a title. Same as Bama before Saban won in '09, and Bama hit lower lows than Nebraska ever did. Not that there is a Saban equivalent available, but even if there were, Nebraska would have no shot at him. It's not like Bama being able to reel in Saban was a stunner. Why? Their previous coaches were Mike Shula, the embarrassment of Mike Price and his 0 games, and a guy who ditched them for freakin Texas A&M
  17. All that means is that the Giants have been drafting No. 30 a bunch. Which really just means they missed out on Kris Bryant

  19. they literally just won the world series But we're gonna win the next million
  20. The Giants have won 3 of the last 5 World Series for fucks sake
  21. I think the authors main point is the advanced stats aren't accounting for it properly. Essentially we are possibly looking at a "decision making skill" which could be evaluated on a normalized basis or specific to situation (runners, personnel, game score, etc) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk But errors are included in UZR, unless he's more prone to errors in high leverage situations his error rate would already be accounted for.
  22. I was talking both additional throws and more difficult throws, though WF makes a good point on knowing when to eat it. Ultimately I'm not sure of the author's point, his errors are going to be reflected in his defensive numbers.
