  1. I could give a crap about the pick itself, but the financial flexibility having it affords them in doing what they did last year and using the extra slot money to get additional high upside guys later is the big downside of it for me. I'd just as soon avoid that decision altogether and get Lester and be done with it. We only saved like 200K last year in the 2nd round, and that was with a senior. To get big savings for later guys, you just wind up wasting your 2nd round pick instead.
  2. That seems to imply the 3(4?) bids are all roughly the same. Our FO can't possibly think we're going to win with the same contract as BOS or SFG
  3. What do you have against pocket squares?
  4. [expletive] yeah
  5. Jon Lester threw more innings last year than Brett Anderson has over the past 4 seasons combined, accumulating more fWAR than Anderson did over his last 5 seasons.
  6. It's like how it's bad luck to write out an acceptance speech. Let the gif flow naturally
  7. Oops Tree just realized how good it was the last few seasons.
  8. He's the good 18 year old. That would be fantastic.
  9. And their offense sucked, so we don't need one of those either.
  10. I mean, they could be better that way, but it's also possible they don't improve your team at all with them. Choi vs. Lee. It isn't very similar to Choi vs Lee at all. We're talking about players with established levels of performance. We're also talking about pitchers who all have variance in year to year performance. But whether we are better off one way or another isn't the point. The post was a response to people saying we're essentially hosed unless we get an "ace" level guy. What is Brett Anderson's established level of performance? Guy who might be good if he can throw more than 22 innings?

  12. Maybe I'm nutso but I was thinking like 1/$8m. He's not that good? He just got 1/6 last year coming off a terrible season
  13. I would guess somewhere around where Scott Feldman got last offseason with the Astros (3/30). Deal was front-loaded too (12, 10, 8) Holy crap I hope it's not that much. I was thinking more, like 3/36
  14. Acquiring 3 SPs would make the Wada and Wood signings look real silly.
  15. I'm intrigued to see what he got considering he'd be the first SP off the market
  16. If Jones didn't have a game under his belt in which he put up an outstanding performance (Better passing rating than any game Barrett had)against an in the very least good defense, if not elite(something like 2nd in NCAA in Yds/Gm heading into the Championship), then sure.
  17. that's one silly way to look at it. OSU's offense is not going to dramatically change. So it comes down to stopping a freshman with virtually no experience or facing two guys who have been considered Heisman candidates and who have tons of starts between them. You really think Saban is [expletive] himself because he has limited film on this guy? Did I say he was [expletive] himself? If I'm supposed to buy into this super-secret Saban game-planning powers then it really shouldn't matter who he's scheming against. Then again he probably wouldn't have lost to a 15 point underdog Oklahoma squad, but maybe that was the "they didn't really care" excuse they used when Utah embarrassed them.
  18. Wouldn't you rather get to gameplan for a guy who has more than 1 start to scout?
  19. And that same week featured Baylor barely beating a dreadful Texas Tech team. TCU narrowly escaped against an even worse Kansas team.
  20. Just saying, the schedule matters, and FSU's sucked
  21. OSU would almost certainly be in with an FSU loss. I don't think it's unfathomable that FSU gets left out with a close win. It should be. FSU hasn't lost. To say 4 1-loss teams are better is nonsense. We were saying it about Marshall
