  1. Hub said he sounded a little jealous of the attention they showed Lester. If he sees them throwing gobs of money at Lester, where they wouldn't extend him at what he deemed a fair price, then of course he's going to be bitter. At the time wasnt the rumored extension 5/75? For what he had done up to that point seemed petty fair. I thought they had offered all the way up to 5/95, but Shark wanted an extension that exceeded Homer Bailey's. I don't believe I ever heard 5/95. My recollection was they started at something insulting like 5/60 then upped it to 5/75 once he was good
  2. It's how he copes with living in the south there is actually a lot of truth in that. I've been bleeding when I [expletive] lately. I know most of you are 99.9% sure of what that expletive is, but admit it, you're kind of curious to know if it's something else. full back
  3. Why are you linking to Rovell stories???? He's a bigger [expletive] than any of the people who cover the Cubs. Dave Kaplan lose his job? (Please?)

  5. #PTRSTD. Shouldn't have trusted that lady of the evening at those rates

Tough call... Yeah, he should think good for them, I'm happy they're better off without me. Jesus.
  7. he's borderline to even be called a prospect, let alone a very good one. That's absolutely absurd, sorry. Just not even close to meshing with the facts. a raw 20 year old pitcher who hasn't pitched above rookie ball is not a very good prospect. he might be a prospect. cj edwards and pierce johnson are barely "very good" prospects. i mean, [expletive], if mejia is a very good prospect, vogelbach must be blue chip He is in the sense that he weighs the same as Shaq.
  8. It is if you believe Montero's contract pushes him into negative value. Well then stop believing that. Problem solved. But now we're missing the 3M in projected surplus value Mejia would provide us. 14 years of team control for 3. Unbelievable. This is how we got into the mess we're in now.
  9. In a world where there are less than 500 prospects rated as very good
  10. Yes, but I'd me more concerned that he's a DL warmer. Colorado's owner loves him, so the cost would be high. Pass. For $53mil the next 3 years, I'd pass too. Start talking to NYY about Gardner for Castro. They won't be doing that

  12. Of course it's not irrelevant. Someone who argues a catcher makes a 5 win difference in pitch framing alone is. I like our FO too much to believe they knowingly ran the relative Jake Fox out there behind the plate the last 3 years. They're going to knowingly run Javy out there, that doesn't mean they don't put any stock in the value of OBP. Javy getting on base 22% of the time isn't going to hurt the trade value of your other players in years you're punting. Castillo being -15 runs for the year in framing is not going to move the needle for any individual pitcher. Similarly, we shouldn't be expecting some catcher ERA-esque like change in our current pitcher's numbers due to framing. If we shouldn't expect a dramtic shift in our pitchers abilities then where are the saved runs showing up? None of this is to say I dislike the deal. Bfd on the prospects and this is the type of move we should always be making, I just think some people are taking things too far on Montero

I like our FO too much to believe they knowingly ran the relative Jake Fox out there behind the plate the last 3 years. If you take the position that they were all right with losing (or were losing intentionally) to acquire talent, then why would they not have? And perhaps they wanted to make sure Castillo was as bad at it as he appeared to be before going in another direction. Because him being a shitty framer(along with Navarro) hurts the trade value of all those pitchers you're looking to flip.

  17. People always have this weird belief that stats they aren't that familiar with have to be extremely consistent. They don't. Sometimes guys just have weird years. Montero probably isn't a +24 pitch framer every year, but he's good at it and got a ton of close calls last year. And people also have the tendency to see something new and latch on to it and snipe at people who aren't ready to accept it on blind faith. How many Win Shares did Montero have last year?
  18. No more dumb than people who believe there is a nearly 50 run difference between catchers in pitch framing. Especially when Montero was a negative at pitch framing in 2013.
  19. Pretty much what Friedman and Maddon had accepted for 162 games for the last 3 years with the Rays. What other position did they punt on?
  20. That would explain the conflict then. Red Sox have the heartstrings...Cubs have the most money, and the Giants are feeling out of it. I'd be shocked if we guaranteed a 7th year
