  1. Most fans are idiots.
  2. No steroid allegations + magic number 3,000 = HOF. I don't see how being the best player on your team matters. He was one of the best 2B in the business for a long, long time. Plus, come on. Mazeroski got in on .260 BA, .299 OBP(!!), .367 SLG. Nobody can tell me Craig's .282/.365/.434 doesn't blow that out of the water 6 ways to Sunday. Bigs played longer, too. Without commenting on Biggio's qualifications, we're not really using Maz as the baseline, are we? He's in, isn't he? It's a 2B comparison, Maz is in and Bigs will be voted on. How is that not a valid comparison? Not my fault the voters put Maz in. The vets put Maz in, not the BBWAA. Biggio should be in easily, and Maz shouldn't have to come into the conversation to prove it.
  3. I may have people jumping on me for it, but again we have a guy who can do that against lefties for free. He even has the red hair too.
  4. Kielty sucks against righties. .229/.332/.349
  5. Adding Fox to the 40 man wasn't that big of a deal unless nobody on the 40 man is traded by the time Kerry comes back which would kind of surprise me. Even so, losing Buck Coats would not be a tragedy.
  6. Make sure we leave Petrick out of the mix! If we have to mix another starter in the trade maybe throw Marshall or Hill in there to get the deal done. One last thing we need to get something beside Tex, we would need another minor leaguer or two like we got in the Nomar deal with Murton. Throw in Marshall or Hill, but whatever you do, don't include Petrick???
  7. I'd much rather give Cedeno a chance again. Lopez's D from all accounts is bad, and what I'd expect from him hitting wise(between '05 and '07) doesn't make up for the D. EDIT: Marquis is certainly not better than Garland.
  8. If Rob Dibble was so smart he wouldn't be an idiot.
  9. I've never heard anyone who actually liked Miller Park.
  10. I'm all for Stairs, and it's nice upgrading the bench to get some guys who can actually hit for power, but uhhhh can we get our starting lineup taken care of please?
  11. We're not gonna get a top prospect. Littlefield isn't that incompetent. I would not be shocked to get someone who has a ton of untapped potential though, cause Littlefield is that incompetent.
  12. +1 I'm all about rooting against the brewers but no need to go to their park when the cubs arent there for the sole purpose of rooting against them. Yeah, I don't get this at all.
  13. Hate to post on topic but, Mike Emiegh, a great minor league source over on BTF, says there's rumors the PTBNL is Zach Duke. Take away the sharp objects from Jake.
  14. There would be more scrutiny in this case, but couldn't the phantom injury come before the playoff rosters were set so they could get on? Yes they could, come to think of it. It's why it's a nice idea to not release Novoa and Miller if you don't have to, so that those spots are there for the taking. Those guys are already off the 25-man roster and on the 60-day DL. Isn't the only way to get a guy on the playoff roster after August 31 if he is replacing somebody who was on the 25-man roster but got injured in September? For the Cubs, it would seem the only way to pull this off would be to have the 5th starter or 7th reliever come down with a phantom injury sometime in September and be replaced by a Sept callup. Nope, the Angels did it with K-Rod in '02. He replaced some scrub who had been on the 60 day DL all year. Guys on the 60 day DL are kind of in limbo, they aren't really on the 25 man roster, but they aren't really not. They accrue major league service time throughout their stay which is why Ohman is arb eligible so early in his actual playing career.
  15. Steve "Lake" Trout he was one of my favorites Rainbow I thought.
  16. I hate writing teams off after what Houston did, but with Carpenter going so went the Cards's chances.
  17. I wouldn't read anything into this with regards to Cedeno. DeRosa is the only guy active that can play 1B.(Obviously, anyone can stand at 1st and not be horrendous, but he's the only guy they feel comfortable with there.) Having somebody else to stick at 1B is important when the guy playing 1B is also a backup at 4 other positions. EDIT: Nevermind, just rememberred Fox.
  18. Bingo. I point to that game as the reason we didn't win the pennant. someone try to find a dumber managerial move than that one. you cant. How bout 1 game prior when Dusty chose to face Mike Lowell instead of Lenny Harris?
  19. Anyone else worried it could suddenly reappears as suddenly as it disappeared? Sorry to bring negativity into this thread. Kerry had a sitdown with Jon Garland.
  20. Mortgaging the future to win the world series = one horrible trade 2 years prior?
  21. liked her better as Chris I never quite got why she had to start going by Christina. It's not like she was Christopher Kahrl before.
  22. Everybody argue right past each other, this way nobody will gain a thing. Nobody anywhere said the Cubs are as good as the Braves at developing talent.
