  1. Good thing Dempster had nothing to do with it.
  2. Way to criticize a guy based on a hypothetical situation. That's fair. He didn't criticize him; he just stated facts. Fact: Kendall's arm is crap. Based on that, it's reasonable to infer that he may not have been able to make that throw. Why trash Kendall's arm because of a play Soto makes? Does that make any sense? Are you being serious? The catcher who is currently playing makes a great play, A poster comments that the teams catcher who would regularly be playing may likely not be able to make that same play. It wasn't really off topic. Actually it was. All you guys who are all over Soto use anything you can trash Kendall. The fact is, we have no idea how that play would've been different had Kendall been playing. Maybe it wouldn't have gotten through him in the first place. It's completely unfair to criticize players based on plays that other guys make. This is madness, I made the comment that Soto has a stronger, more accurate arm than Kendall. These are facts. When an OF soaps up a flyball and I mention that Jacque woulda caught that, would you jump down my throat for that?
  3. That was really dumb. Looks like DeRosa soaped it up. Regardless, bunt and running is dumb, he pops it up and it's an easy dp.
  4. To show it was an exceptional play that the normal catcher doesn't make? I don't understand why this is such an issue.
  5. Way to criticize a guy based on a hypothetical situation. That's fair. It was my guess, Kendall doesn't have as strong or as accurate an arm as Soto. I don't think it's an outrageous a claim to think Kendall doesn't get the out.
  6. Bob already said it(though I said it first), but that was a great play by Soto, never hesitated, went right after the ball and made a great throw. Kendall probably does the same thing chasing after it right away, but he doesn't get the throw I'm thinking. Nice inning Carlos.
  7. Juice FTW (maybe in 2 years) (probably not)
  8. I thought Cuse was playing Illinois this week? I keep telling you guys, Illinois is jacked.
  9. Who has been counting on Guzman, either within the organization or amongst the fans? This. Reminiscent of the people saying we need to cut Prior and Wood now just because it'll make themselves feel better. Gooz is costing us nothing and it's not like anyone's writing him into a rotation spot then panicking when he turns up injured. He's just another one of those guys who's a bonus if he gives us anything, it's not a big deal.
  10. 1 out of 30. Reinsdorf, and even that's really just what Selig wants too, so basically 0 out of 30.
  11. I did a search through game logs then forgot to save my numbers, and am too annoyed to go back and do it again, but his ERA in non-save situations was ~5.60 Of course that number means little without knowing how an average closer performs in non-save situations.
  12. Brought over from a post I made at BTF. People seem to have this obsession with riding Dempster out on a rail. He's been bad lately, and I don't know why other than reliever fluctuation. '06 I had previously chalked up to inconsistent work, though looking at the new tools in BR show it wasn't that inconsistent, moreso than a normal closer I'm guessing, but not that bad. In '05, as I said you'd be hard pressed to find many relievers better. He is what he is, he's likely never gonna reach those '05 #s again, but he's also likely never gonna reach those '06 #s. He's a high BB, high K, low HR guy who'll give you some scares when he's wild. The very definition of an averagish closer.
  13. I think it's horrible that they're bringing back Spiezio for some failed effort at a pennant chase, entering him back into the situation that got him into his problems in the first place. Reminds me of pitching Kerry Wood down the stretch in '05, only much more endangering to Spiezio. Is 1 month really enough to get over an addiction, and if it was, is it enough to get over an addiction and be able to avoid relapsing when put back in the situation you had the problem in? It's damn near disgusting.
  14. I said this after week 1. He's long gone.
  15. What makes you think Dempster would be a good middle of the rotation starter? He was pretty terrible as a starter with Florida and Cincy.
  16. I thought Cuse was playing Illinois this week?
  17. Meph saved me the effort on researching New England. I had Hartford in mind when I mentioned it. As he alluded to though, this is all pie in the sky because of the good ol boys network of owners where Henry would never allow Selig to move a team into his market, same way a 3rd NY team is a stretch. They'd rather move a team to a market where they'll struggle to draw 2M as long as it doesn't infringe on some billionaire's made up area rights.
  18. Nomar was pretty mediocre for us. And Brendan Harris is a world beater. It was a big win for the Cubs at the time, and nothing that's transpired since then has made it any less of one. Harris had no right playing the SS position, and without the ability to play SS, I'm failing to see how he's more valuable than Matt Murton now and in the future.
