    He's definitely worth something as a utility player. As is often the case with our whipping boys, it's not the whipping boy's fault. He'd be fine in the role he's suited to. That role(although he has been worth it so far this season) is not as a starting SS.

    Agreed. Zell *needs* to wring every last dollar out of this. MLB would just prefer it to be their guy. My concern is Selig using his slush fund to make up the difference. Zell doesn't give a crap where the money comes from, he just wants it. Selig's got loads of money from various MLB revenues to spend on dicking us over.

    I always understood it as force outs take precedent over the runner scoring. Say the bases are loaded, Pie's at 3rd and Soto's at 1st. On a ball hit deep in the hole that barely forces out Soto at 2nd after Pie crosses home, the run doesn't count. That's why I'm surprised at CCP's explanation. I always understood those plays to be force outs.

    The Cards have proven they can win in the past with less talent, where Baker has proven he can screw up a team with more talent. I am becoming more worried about them with every passing day. Still expect them to have a rough stretch soon enough though that will put them back too far. When have the Cards won with less talent than this year's team?

    Somehow Mulder gave up 9 runs with his 76 mph fastball. Warm up Gagne Ned!! He needs some work.

    i'd take the 2nd guy, though the first might be a more valuable player of the two if he's in the leadoff spot. i see more value in driving in and advancing all the extra runners. the difference would still probably be too marginal to cause much difference in the standings. The guy with the 240 BA is hitting for a lot more power with an ISO of 260 compared to the 300 guy's 170.
