  1. Reds win tonight on a Dunn walk off. After Dunn failed to get a sacrifice bunt down. This is twice that the Reds inability to get a bunt down has helped to overcome Dusty's braindead managing.
  2. PECOTA had him projected at 283/336/467 for '07. .291/.344/.480 for '08. With his defense, and that line as a 23 year old, I'd say he's projected to be an elite player.
  3. The Twins got 4 good prospects in that deal? Humber is trash and Gomez is a tools goof. The best prospect in that trade was a 19 year old with about 150 professional innings and just decent numbers in those innings.
  4. And why are we benching DeRosa tomorrow, who just had a day off on Thursday and has been quite hot the last 8 games he's started? plus derosa's 3 year splits against LHP are .314/.385/.509/.894. I didnt realise this guy was a lefty. Soriano Cedeno Soto Ramirez Lee Fuku Edmonds DeRosa Marcrap Edmonds can't hit left-handers, so there's no reason to put him in there against a lefty. And Theriot is so much better against left-handers than right-handers that you really shouldn't bench him against a left-hander. Not to mention that Cedeno in the major leagues has actually been better against right-handers than left-handers every single year including this one. Finding Cedeno a start should come against a right-hander, not a left-hander. I got confused for a minute there, kind of like Lou when he left in Johnson against Capps. As for first, if Lee is given a day off, it will be for Hoffpauir. I cant wait for Hoff to go 3-4 with 4 RBI and the board to be filled with Free Hoff posts. Yeah, Hoffpauir's situation is nothing like Pie and Cedeno's.
  5. Dumatrait put up a Micah Bowie like line last year. He's terrible.
  6. All we can hope for is that it's nothing major..... he'll be throwing the towel in simulated games in no time I'm sure AHHHHHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA
  7. The foe function is awesome.
  8. Menace, you mentioned the Brewers payroll coming off the books, I wasn't sure if you were talking about how that affects the Braun contract, or if you were talking a potential Fielder contract. I fully agree that the Braun contract won't be any sort of problem for the Brewers long-term, even if he does get Conigliaroed. If you were talking with regards to Fielder, my problem with it is that you are taking away Sheets and Suppan from an already fragile rotation. I believe both Gallardo and Parra are the real deal, but that's a lot of fragility at the front of the rotation, and not much for depth behind them. I have a hard time seeing them dealing Suppan, they need him in there to eat innings and to know that he'll be out there every day.
  9. Do you think the Pirates are pissed that people think their offense sucks even though they're 4th in the league?
  10. With Sean's pitch count he won't make it deep into the Pirates lineup 3 times. And that sentence was horribly written.
  11. Chavez, Prior, and maybe Baldelli are the only ones that are really remotely comparable. Signing Chavez would've been the right move(The A's may have, I can't remember.) Prior's a pitcher, so he's a different story. Baldelli turned out to be fragile, cest la vie.
  12. I think you guys are selling DeRosa short wanting him to go to the bench.
  13. I really don't get why they refuse to give up on Harvey as a hitter.
  14. Nice to see Ronny get 2 starts in a row. We really need to find more ways to get him to play. His change of approach this year is insane. My mancrush is growing.
  15. ](*,) Good point. In response, I say (Smilies) okay... sorry, but i've just made the argument so many times that i can't do it anymore. long story short, playing pie does not mean you're only "looking toward the future". The playoffs are the future.
  16. Haha, I was going to post something about your intense hatred for Diablo Cody.
  17. Well as I've said, I'd need to be looking at a smoking good deal. 09: $500K 10: $750K 11: $2M 12: $4M 13: $6M 14 thru whenever: team options in the $8-$13M range That'd be very similar to Longoria's deal, which he received after what? A week in the bigleagues? I'd be fine with offering that to a guy with 600 or whatever bigleague ABs of 900 OPS. I wouldn't expect Soto to accept, but that'd be my comfort zone on this thing. Soto could fall to a 650 OPS and you're not even overpaying by more than 1 or 2M, unless you're worried about Geo stumbling into a woodchipper, there's no risk for the team.
  18. I seem to remember him hitting an opposite field HR about 15 seconds after Tim made a post about him pulling everything.
  19. Kinda back to the topic davearm, what would you put together for a contract for Soto let's say in May of '09 after putting up a 900 career OPS?
  20. I'm pretty sure Lackey was signed to an extension paying him that. You're the one who came up with the # we had to pay all these guys. What I did was pose the question, how many of these other ROY vote-getters would you like to have at the prices Tulowitzki and the Rox agreed to after one season. FWIW, I like the Lackey deal for the Angels. The dollars were modest (3/$17M) and the guy had a nice strong track record at the time it was offered -- 3 seasons of 30+ starts and ~200 IP. But you're looking at it in current dollar terms. When that Lackey deal was signed, it was a similar deal to what's being signed now. Saying "how would you like for Lackey to be getting paid 18.5M over the past 2 years?" is disingenious because those guys signing those contracts aren't getting paid 18.5M these past 2 years, they're getting it paid in future dollars which are obviously worth less than current-past dollars.
  21. How'd you like to be that bank teller. what, you think he'd be annoyed that someone asked for a thousand pounds of pennies? No the one that Fogg took them to to get them deposited. They would have to count them. I don't think they count change by hand anymore.
  22. This is wrong. On pretty much every one of these contracts, save Longoria, if the player merely maintains their current rate the team is getting them at a cheaper rate than they would going year to year.
