  1. Cap 2, Cap 3 looks like a Boston hat...with a monkey on it.
  2. I didn't read the article(I'm at work), but I'd bet that's from John Brattain, and because of that I'd bet it's awesome.
  3. Getting Wainwright back may help, but I wouldn't count on anything from Carpenter. I'd count on Mulder being the worst pitcher in baseball.
  4. He has the best ERA on the team ERA is a pretty terrible way to try to value relief pitchers... In terms of expected wins added (WXRL), here is how the Cubs relievers rank for 2008. Marmol Wood Howry Lieber Eyre Marshall Ascaino Cotts Wuertz Of course thats only for 2008, so it doesnt necessarily mean thats how they will be in the future. The Cubs would be complete idiots to give up Wuertz this year as Wood, Howry, Lieber, and Eyre will be FAs after this year. Doesn't leverage play a significant role in WXRL? It's not Wuertz's fault that Lou only uses him when the team is down by 5 or up by 14.
  5. I've never seen Cars, but I'd bet money it wouldn't be in my top half. Also, how can somebody like Toy Story 2 more than the original? That seems crazy. I took Nemo.
  6. Everyone keeps mentioning this crap about his velocity. It's off base. His season long velocity is 92.6 His velocity his last 2 starts is 91.9 A .7 drop in velocity means nothing. Velocity isn't a constant, a fluctuation of less than 1 mph is nothing to be concerned about.
  7. They were talking about the Sabathia trade. I almost freaked out about that as well, but I realized they were talking about the Sabathia trade and that guy that they are converting from 3B to 2B. If there was a PTBNL in the Harden trade it probably would have been Vitters which would make this trade very very different. This is how my friend originally reported the trade to me as I drove home from work. He told me Gallagher, Murton, Patterson, and a PTBNL who I was convinced was Vitters.
  8. Hendry took over as Cubs GM midway through 2002. His trades with Oakland: Traded Damian Miller for Michael Barrett A 3 team deal where the Cubs got Freddie Bynum, A's got Juan Dominguez(gave up John Rheinecker as well) Traded Mark Watson to Oakland on a conditional deal Jerome Williams was taken off waivers by Oakland Traded Jerry Blevins and Rob Bowen for Jason Kendall I'm not sure Hendry has "lost" a trade to Beane yet. I guess Blevins could still make that one a loser, and the Cubs being forced to have Freddie Bynum for a season may have qualified as well.
  9. Re-post from the game thread: 6 runs is the new backup save for Lou. He won't use Wood in these situations, but if we're only up by a mere 6 runs, he only feels comfortable with Howry or Marmol finishing it out. It's maddening. Most recent games where we lead by more than 3: 7/6: Cotts-Marmol-Howry(4-1, 6-1, 7-1 by inning) 6/30: Wood for the 9th (9-2) 6/22: Howry for the 9th (7-1) 6/21: Marmol(11-5), Howry(11-6), Wood (11-7) 6/15: Eyre(7-0), Marmol(7-1), Cotts(7-1), Wood(7-3) 6/14: Marmol(6-1), Howry(6-1) 6/11: Dempster CG (7-2) 6/10: LIEBER!!!! (10-5) Seriously, Lou, it's not even like our top relievers are performing that well in these situations. SAVE THEM
  10. Has the fact that Gary Hughes was at Petco Park watching Maddux pitch last night been discussed anywhere? Why does no one seem to see that Marquis is actually better than Maddux? Because he's not. Based on what exactly? Putting Maddux in a division with parks that trend heavily towards hitters parks in August isn't exactly a sound decision. Marquis sucks, no doubt, but Maddux's numbers this season are influenced by the parks in that division. Based on everything. Maddux has a better ERA, better WHIP, fewer walks, more K's, and a better ERA+. What exactly are you basing your statement that Marquis is better on? Top of my head calculations,('07x2, '08x1) Marquis has roughly an equal ERA+ to Maddux the past 2 seasons.

  13. He hasn't pitched since Saturday. He could dust some rust off too. I doubt it though. Wuertz hasn't pitched in 2 1/2 months, how bout we get him some work?
  14. It's odd, everyone seems to be under the impression that Wuertz has a horrible walk rate.
  15. Barring injuries, a bench bat or bullpen arm is all I'd really guess.
  16. Guillen certainly can't play CF. Bradley's kinda sketchy as well.
  17. The bench is going to be Johnson, Ward, Blanco, Fontenot, Cedeno You forgot Lieber in your pitching staff, I have a hard time seeing him DFAd. Z Harden Lilly Dempster Marshall/Marquis Lieber Gaudin Eyre Howry Marmol Wood Cotts/Wuertz I think Wuertz winds up getting demoted, which is silly, but there's really just too many pitchers, not enough spots.
  18. Harang's been terrible ever since Dusty pitched him for 63 pitches out of the pen 2 days after he threw 103. Then 3 days later he got shelled throwing 73 more pitches.
  19. Depends if you're looking for Brewer fan reactions or looking to troll.
  20. I really think Marquis is getting Izturis-ed by the end of the month. Gaudin keeps us at 6 starters, and that's not including Lieber, Hart, or Hill. I think Jim giving Marquis credit was his way of talking him up. Gallagher was also untouchable earlier this season IIRC. And I'll add on to the best of wishes to Sean, if you could pass them on Mr. Gallagher. This trade should work out best for Sean, Matt, and Eric, and it works out well for the Cubs. I love it.
