  1. I'd imagine Ward is replaced by Hoffpauir next season, no reason to look for his replacement this year, he's fine.
  2. This Owings to the bullpen thing seems peculiar at best.
  3. Yeah, well, after living through the '84 debacle trust me I would rather have won. Yea, I'm glad I wasn't around for that...but our generation of fans definitely got our own version of that in '03. I can honestly say I didn't need to find out what it felt like. The subsequent disastrous collapse of that pitching staff (which would've made us a playoff powerhouse for years to come) over the next few years was the cherry on top. For me it's seeing these horrible patterns, and then fearing the next repeat. For example: from my perspective, 2003 & 2004 wound being a replay of '84 and '85 in soooo many ways. Just seeing that history repeat itself like that was incredibly depressing. Then I sit there and go, "OK, this is the next '03 right?" ".....and here comes the next '85!!" It's bad, I know. But I can't help it. I feel like I've seen these same couple movies too many times. I'd rather not see yet another sequel, know what I mean? Yeah, but you also realize that that's totally irrational, and stupid magic and pixie dust like that isn't real, and what happened 24 years ago has no bearing on what's happening right now. I do realize it's irrational. Absolutely. But guess what? That just adds to the frustration. Shouldn't be able to happen *AGAIN*. The Cubs have the best record in the NL. For the moment. That's true, after all they were terrible in 1949.

  6. 3 in 4. Lou(other than Marmol) is a fan of having his pitchers available for October.
  7. DAMMIT Tman. Guess that's what I get for actually trying to find the quote(unsuccessfully)
  8. Yes, Dear, you're right, I'm sorry. (Or something stupid like that)
  9. Yeah, well, after living through the '84 debacle trust me I would rather have won. Yes, and to the person who asked about how I'd feel if we had won in 1984: At least I'd remember winning a world series. I'm sure that would really make a big difference in how you feel about this team. Remembering a world series from when you were 8.
  10. Ronny's been terrible lately, but yes, there are many many worse players than Ronny.
  11. Top of my head, I'd guess the Giants, but I dunno.
  12. Losing is what this team does best. After all, they have a reputation to uphold. seriously? Um.... You ARE aware of this team's history, right? Do you need a refresher? This year's team's history of a winning record(and best record in the NL)? Or Lou's team's histories of winning records? Or something stupid like the franchise's history...of winning records?
  13. Could anybody tell me who has the best record in the NL?
  14. I don't really care about how many seasons, but you should make some sort of lasting impact. Obviously that's easier to do when playing more than 1 season. Retiring Durant's # is kinda crazy.
  15. That very well may be the reason but plenty of spanish speaking guys joke around and seem to have fun all the time. Papi and Manny immediately come to mind. Papi and Manny are huge stars who always have the spotlight on them. Ronny is a backup SS who is never going to be the guy the media goes to for a soundbite. And is Theriot really a guy who jokes around and seems to have fun all the time?
  16. Cedeno's not as "fun going" as Theriot because he doesn't speak English well.
  17. Yeah my friend isn't bright. He argued Mussina should be an all-star when he was 10-5 even though his ERA was 3.8. Worst part is he's a baseball fanatic. You know, Andy can read all this.
  18. To be fair, Theriot's LD% is higher this season, and the BABIP isn't that far out of line from that.
  19. I know I shouldn't but... How do we know Ryan Theriot appreciates his spot in the big leagues and tries much harder than Cedeno both during the season and in the offseason?
  20. I like the 5'10" guy getting the tying tip in.
  21. People's hatred for Cedeno is also kinda weird.
  22. It really doesn't matter when there's 41K and more people are using public transportation now than ever. You're likely going to be very crowded on the L. Having said that, I haven't taken the Red Line on the day of the game in several years. It's really not that bad after a game. With so many people going to the bars, it's not a huge hassle getting on the train. You do have to be prepared to be in a crammed train, but that goes for pretty much whenever.
