  1. Could just call him 63 career OPS+ Ronny if that is a better nickname. I'd have no problem with that. You wanna argue that Ronny isn't a good ballplayer, have at it, Lord knows you've got the major league #s to back it up. If Ronny was truly as untalented as some want to believe, AND was some Ned Yost-like buffoon when it came to intelligence; He'd be a Tony Pena Jr. hitter with Jack Cust level defense. I just really don't understand why things need to be made up about Ronny, when you can simply say something simple like he hasn't hit at the major league level, and other than a ~2 month stretch, he doesn't look like he has an approach that's conducive to becoming one. Here's my deal: while I don't argue that you might have a point about Cedeno getting somewhat of a bad rap defensively compared to a guy like Theriot (I haven't run the numbers mind you), I also believe strongly that if Ronny would post some kind of major league-level numbers at the plate he'd get more leeway. It might not be right, I'll acknowledge that. But Ronny's got to give this team something to hang its hat on at some point. Ronny's a backup SS with a good glove OPS+ing 86. A backup SS with a good glove with better offensive #s isn't a backup SS. Haha @ Ronny having a gold glove. Haha @ being ignorant enough to think Ronny a bad fielder.

  4. I'm close. I was a big supporter of his, but I just can't take it anymore. Ryan Theriot's made far more braindead plays this year than Cedeno ever has. It's a lot easier to accept when a guy is hitting like Theriot is, but to single out Ronny as braindead when the guy next to him is even worse at those things seems odd. I'm sure Ronny would have more braindead plays if they had equal opportunities. If Ronny Cedeno threw a ball into RF from his back it would be sigged, avatarred, and mentioned every page of every game thread. People hate Ronny Cedeno because he was terrible in '06(not terrible because he was "dumb", terrible because he was terrible and not ready to play) and because he overslid the base once last year. That's about it. From that point on every error, every K, every out with a runner on is braindead Ronny.

Hammer on him for his poor approach at the plate the past couple months after looking sexy as hell up there to begin the year. Not because he's "dumb" or "doesn't think"

  7. you think they'd foolishly waste a 40-man spot on Hill again? They're gonna have to waste a 40 man roster spot on some 3rd catcher. Might as well be Hill rather than digging up Mike DiFelice's corpse again.
  8. Because we're not A's fans, and the situations aren't really similar?
  9. Re: Cubs and Dunn, Edmonds is STILL putting up the best offensive #s on the team. Could we wait til he actually slumps a bit before we try and replace him?
  10. Agreed. It bugs the heck out of me that he's still on the 40 man. Get someone else on there for once! He's not taking a space from anybody, there is already an open slot available. It would be better to put him on the 60-day DL. That's consistent with what they both said, since putting him on the 60-day DL would take him off the 40-man roster. Actually 60-day DL keeps him on the 40-man but allows the team an extra spot. Taking him off the 40-man means releaseing him entirely. While that may be fun, it really doesn't help the Cubs. I think we're thinking the same thing but debating semantics. The main point, which we're both saying, is that it allows another player to be added to the 40-man roster. If you look at any of the mlb.com affiliated team sites, their 40-man rosters show players on the 60-day, but along with a footnote that says "not on 40-man roster."Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they keep Fox on the 40 man, then move him to the 60 day on 1 Sep or later, whoever they move onto the roster at that point to take his place is eligible to be put on a postseason roster, right? And if they made the corresponding move before 1 Sep, that player wouldn't be unless they were on the 25 man roster? Or was this the old rule before they set it so that you can change your 25 man roster before the LCS or WS if there's an injury? It doesn't matter when the player is moved to the 60 day DL. When K-Rod made the Angles playoff roster despite not being in the big leagues til September, he replaced a guy who was on the 60 day DL starting in March.
  11. You're underestimating the # of idiots out there.

  13. In his situation though, it's probably just not worth the additional aggravation. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that Bartman's fine. He's not destitute. He's not unemployed. He's just a guy who is living his life like everyone else, and wants to be left alone. I can't understand why people just don't let it go. They should go back and watch the game, objectively: the Cubs were still winning after Bartman. The situation on the field hadn't changed one bit after the "Bartman incident." I understand the raw emotion of the moment but now that it's 5 years in the past, it's time to look at it objectively and realize the Cubs lost that game because they stopped playing good baseball in that very inning. Cause sports media is full of lazy morons. That's why they won't let it go. They think they're comedians, they're just pricks.
  14. then he shouldn't be promoted. If you're going to burn an option on him, at least see what he's made of Samardzija's option was burned back in March. que? when he was added to the 40-man, i believe. He was added to the 40 man when he was signed. Every guy on the 40 man is on the active roster in spring training. if they don't break camp with the major league club or on the DL, they burn an option.
  15. Didn't she swear up and down that the team was Canning's? She's been off on pretty much every fact she's given us about how the ownership situation will play out, but she comes coming back with a condescending tone because she knows the Red Sox groups combined. This isn't privleged information, everyone knows how the Red Sox deal went down. The fact that that worked for them(and the Nats I think), doesn't mean it will work now. Shockingly these tremendously rich people aren't all eager to dump a ton of money into something only to not be the guy who's even the head of the team.

  17. What makes you so sure Reinsdorf would vote no? I'm not saying that he won't, but I don't know for sure. I've heard about him not wanting somebody who would upstage him even more than he already is, but I think I remember Cuban saying he talked with Jerry about buying the team and acted as if they got along. Reinsdorf is the one pulling the strings on the fossilized used car salesman running baseball right now. You can barely even see Reinsdorf's lips moving these days. Rather skilled for an old man.
  18. Wrong team to do it against with Mr., don't you dare throw at my guys, but I'll throw at your children's skull, managing the other team. This is what I tried to say yesterday, but you say it so much better. Could you find a way to punctuate it better for me?
  19. People also love comparing utterly non-analogous situations like a team full of 16 year olds or an office full of cubicles when relating how chemistry affects a baseball team.
