  1. He was gonna get that 100 years dig in, no matter how irrelevant it was.
  2. When I feel like they are a worse team than both the team they are behind and the 2 behind them as well. It's well within the realm of possibility that the Brewers tank and the Cardinals finish ahead of them. It's well within the realm of possibility that the Cardinals play well down the stretch and hold off whoever is the 2nd NL East team. It's certainly possible that both of these things happen, but considering the relative talent of each team, I don't think it's that likely. But people are basing that off of numbers. It wouldn't shock me to see Ludwick put up ~850 OPSes for a few years now, it would shock me to see him keep up #s this high, and stay healthy. The Cardinals have been a 500 team for the last 3 months, and have a tough schedule down the stretch. There's logic behind this. Illogical? Does illogical have a flavor? Unless Stan Hack is planning on suiting up for the Chicago 9, I'm really really confused as to what you're trying to say here. I think even you would admit that the Cubs are a better team than the Cards. Under what basis do you see an inferior team outplaying a better team BY 6 GAMES over a 7 week period? Oh, and I gave the Cards a 4% chance of making the playoffs, not 5.
  3. there's no way that certain teams (yankees/red sox) would agree to that. and frankly it would be unfair to them. they didn't have a wildcard pre-1993. It's not unprecedented to have both teams not make the playoffs every year. I'm pretty sure that the D-Backs wanted to be an AL team since the time they were created, so they would seem like the natural team to move in an expansion scenario I beleive it was the other way around that Tampa always wanted to be an NL team. There was some sort of cockamamie idea for the 2 to switch leagues after a few years, but Arizona balked at the idea.
  4. 5 votes short, and I have to imagine there were 5 veterans who never bothered voting If they don't vote, their right to vote should be taken away. A voter shouldn't have to vote for somebody if they don't feel anyone's qualified. There have been vet committee elections where there wasn't really a viable candidate. Forcing them to vote for somebody isn't the solution. Then turn in a ballot that says "None of the above". At least you know they considered it. As mentioned earlier the voting only tallies ballots that are turned in. If a voter doesn't turn in a ballot it's better for the candidates than a ballot that's turned in blank.
  5. BP's odds are much more promising for tampa than your odds, and their odds for the yankees are much less optimistic. If I matched up with BP's odds, they wouldn't really be my random ass guesses.
  6. ESPN forces their guys to take opposing positions for argument's sake. I'm guessing that's what the throw me a line here part was about.
  7. ???? Espn just said that they will be back to the game when it resumes... Len just broke in on WCIU and said the game has been cancelled. It's official, so we lost. I don't understand why the storm is going to be through soon, unless Lou just said screw it. and Krod blows the save. It's a crappy game, but the Cubs will still take the series, comfortably. We should win the series but we should've won tonight. We should get a chance in the bottom half of the inning I think that is the dumbest slkfjaljd rule ever in baseball. The Astros didn't score in the 8th, so their extra AB didn't make a difference. And does anybody know any interesting facts about Fernando Tatis?
  8. 2-RBI single. Boo. My centsports bet is not amused.
  9. I'm a big weather guy, and I think storms like this are awesome when they aren't interfering with the Cubs game. Normally I do too since typically if I get caught in them something is always open near by and I can find cover in, but after 11 at night by St. Michael's off North, everything is closed. I was tempted to pound on the doors of the Twin Anchors and demand sanctuary and ribs. Mmmm Twin Anchors.
  10. "The Interruptor" on Conan. I'm good to wait this out.
  11. Unlikely Sir, they spell and pronounce their names differently.
  12. I know, it's just a little lightning. He was definitely the most likely to get struck being on the grass in the middle of a steel stadium.
  13. Not that this game is gonna start back up again, but: The only way the game gets suspended is if the Cubs tie it up. Other ways a game can be suspended is if the visiting team takes the lead/ties it up in their half of an inning. All other circumstances the game is over as long as 5 innings are done(4.5 with the home team winning)
  14. Gammons and his ilk usually report on guys who cleared.
  15. I don't understand why you wouldn't go with DeRosa at SS.
  16. I can't imagine they'll delay it again. They'll fight through it or they'll call it.
  17. Me too. None of these fans will ever have a better chance of snagging a foul ball. I was at one in '06 when it pretty much rained all game. I wore a bag on my head that said fire Dusty. A month later he was. You're all welcome.
  18. They came back from commercial showing the ump calling for the tarp in the 5th and I thought it was live. I was gonna be real pissed.
  19. Yeah, I didn't realize the Angels were up 11.5 games. How the hell can you have them as lower than 95% chance to win the division?? My AL random ass guesses ALE: Boston 43%, Tampa 36%, New York 21% ALC: Minnesota 40%, Chicago 38%, Detroit 22% ALW: Anaheim 100% Wild Card: New York 40%, Boston 35%, Tampa 20%, Chicago 4%, Minnesota 1%
  20. I'm sure WCIU will air the remainder of the game. I'd guess ESPN2 would be the best bet for national telecast.
  21. I'm guessing the Brewers dumping Fielder or Parra isn't going to help matters much.
  22. Haha #5 web gem is Jeter diving and stopping a ball in the hole. No out recorded.
  23. lawl at no Joe Morgan in ESPN's stupid top 3 franchise player thing for the Reds. He should be, but lawl nontheless.
