But every player on our bench has such specifically defined skills that having a 5 man bench leaves you with a guy who can field, a guy who's fast, a guy who can catch, a guy who doesn't strike out, and Reed Johnson.

Davis has tonsilitis and is only a sophomore, I expect inconsistency. Chester's game last night was pretty awful. Just some really dumb decisions. Stuff he hasn't done all year.

You'd prefer Cedeno to Aurilia for the same $$$? That's really the choice here. Not me. Cedeno stinks. Time to pull the plug. Aurilia stinks, is old, and can't play defense.

I think you really underestimate what Aurilia's going to get. And I don't think it's possible for Koyie Hill to make less than whoever our backup is. It's not the NBA, there's no floor for Koyie other than the league minimum.

I hate that they went this route too (specifically trading DeRosa) but you would have to throw in both the money saved and the 3 pitching prospects in order to get a fair comparison. I'd imagine they'd wind up saving ~1M. Probably the difference between whatever suckhole backup catcher we sign and Koyie Hill. Oh, and those prospects, unless they happened to be coveted by the Padres are garbage.

If this goes through, they really did choose Miles/Aurilia over DeRosa/Cedeno. That's a horrible indictment on Hendry.

I think I mentioned this before. Don Cooper does a radio show Sunday nights at a bar in my area. He brings a couple players with him, and they get hammered after the show. One of my friends went up to Cooper to tell him I thought Gavin Floyd was overrated, and Cooper came over and talked to me for awhile. I told him that I didn't think Floyd was as good as his numbers, and that he wouldn't be able to sustain it throughout the year. He pressed me further on it, and rather than get all stat dork on him, I just said that it's not that he's bad, he just isn't an ace type like Danks. Cooper responded, telling me Danks wasn't an ace type either. If you want an ace pitcher you need a guy like Colon. Oh and then Boone Logan threw my friend's hat across the bar cause he asked him if he rememberred giving up a grand slam to Derrek Lee in '07. Boone then bought shots for the bar and made out with my friend who has ginormous boobs. But that last part isn't really relevant.

Michigan only gets Indiana once this year too. They probably need 6 more conference wins to have a chance. And that might take a couple Big 10 tourney wins as well. They have 6 remaining home games(OSU, NU, PSU, MSU, MN, PU) They've got 2 winnable road games (Iowa & NU) Gut instinct I say they just miss it.

the college game also badly needs that no-charging arc inside the paint. i hate seeing a guy make a nice move and blow by his defender, only to get a charging call because some bum under the basket took one step to his left. Agree on that.

Chester played today a lot like he did all last year. Some really dumb decisions. Davis has been awful too.
