  1. Watching CBS Halftime, I was not aware all Big East teams are making their tourney now. Davis mentioned that the top 4 seeds get 2 byes and would only have to win 3 games to win the tourney. So am I correct that this is the breakdown? 1-8: BYE 9-16 10-15 11-14 12-13 1-4: BYE 5-(12-13) 6-(11-14) 7-(10-15) 8-(9-16) 1-(8-9-16) 2-(7-10-15) 3-(6-11-14) 4-(5-12-13) Pretty interesting set up. I actually liked the setup with 13-16 not making the tourney, if you can't finish in the top 12 too bad, but this is a really nice alternative that I hadn't considered.
  2. but why would a soulless corporation want to spend money on a huge payroll? Because winning and revenue are correlated. If you can bring it $200 million by spending $120, that's better than bringing in $100 million by spending $40. Which is exactly what the Tribune did. But if you can bring in 100M by spending 40M it's a much smarter play than spending 120M to make 200M when the 200M is qualified by winning.
  3. It's not about adjustments, it's about raw ability. Soriano is no longer anywhere near fast enough to cover that sort of ground. What? Speed has nothing to do with it, is it your belief that Reed Johnson is faster than Soriano?
  4. Haha, I just went to edit that when I saw the word filter failed me.
  5. Well this should knock PSU out of the NCAAs. The Big Ten might wind up with a poopload of NIT teams. OSU, UM, Wisky, PSU all have some work to do(in that order: OSU would probably be in today.) That's not to say the top 4 are locks, but they pretty much just need to avoid meltdowns and they're in.
  6. They weren't bad college basketball players, they just weren't a good fit for a motion offense. I'll always be a fan of Brian Randle cause he was a genuinely nice guy every time I talked to him, and took way too much flack for his play. Beyond Brian and Shaun not fitting in the motion, Frazier spent most of the year hurt, DMac, Davis, and Tis were developing as freshmen, and we were a tremendously unlucky team. I always said last year's team was not nearly as their record showed, but even my most optimistic estimate had us as an 11 seed in the tourney. This has been pretty amazing. Yeah this has really made me rethink my opinion of Weber. I definately am glad he's our coach as I think our team, while very improved, has no buisness being 17-3. randle was a heckuva defender though. except for those 2 dumb fouls he would get 40 ft from the basket every game. big props to weber this year. just think if we had a legitimate post player? Just think if EJ would have just decommitted right away and we could have got one of Manny Harris or E'Twaun Moore who were both rumored to be leaning our way. :banghead: We might not have Davis in that scenario.

  8. Andy starting to realize the downside of having a job.
  9. Here is what I am not understanding about the theoretical dumping of Peavy. The Cubs know that the Pads are determined, nay mandated to dump salary in order to reach their budget for this season. So what is stopping them from making the return for him criminally low? We want Peavy, but you're going to do it for what we want otherwise trade away everyone else on your team without a no-trade clause. Why don't the Cubs just offer Nate Spears or less? Why don't they ask for the Padres to throw in a prospect in return for their trouble. Is there a price that *is* too low? Would it even be possible for the Cubs to lowball the Padres?
  10. That was an ugly, ugly last 2 minutes or so.
  11. We're not running our offense until there is 10 seconds left in the shot clock. It's probably my biggest complaint with Weber's in game coaching. He always goes to the slow down the last 4 minutes, and we wind up not getting great shots because of it.
  12. When we come back...We'll focus on something besides the damn game we're showing. Show this [expletive] on sportscenter so I don't have to watch it, nobody wants to listen to Doris Burke wax poetic on fouling late in a game.
  13. Do you think McDermott is the guy for ISU? Top of my head, his recruiting has been better than I've expected. They've gotta get into the upper half of the North though. CU is just garbage now and there's not a single great team in there.
  14. That foul was on the [expletive] dribble.
  15. Yeah, there's not really any reason to change the schedule set up. It's how the 12 team conferences are set. You want them to play a 22 game conference schedule? You just wait til Mizzou or whoever can turn it around.
  16. Gus doesn't do nearly enough BTN games. Gus should do all games. In all sports. I wouldn't limit him to sports.
  17. Gus doesn't do nearly enough BTN games.
  18. I'm putting McGwire, Clemens and Bonds in the Hall too if I had a chance. But if McGwire has trouble cracking 25%, there's no way Sosa gets in. I'd bet Sosa is looked upon more favorably than McGwire. Idiots view McGwire as a one dimensional HR or nothing hitter.
  19. yeah, we would have taken lenzelle but i think he was reticent with all of the other guards we had already committed. i don't know much about him, but warren better win. I think it was a two way street with Smith. All our big men except Simpson and Griffey will be seniors his freshman year. We needed a post player for some class balance and so we weren't running a freshman out in the rotation in '11. I know Richmond was pushing hard to get him here.
  20. If you drop flyballs while trying to get on Sportscenter, does that make you a muff diver?
  21. Yeah quit saying he was 19, oops he was 18. That was my point.
  22. The bowl game thing is my issue. IIRC, some conferences only had 1 team going to bowl games for years, while others would send anyone who'd get taken. The B10 only had one bowl elgible team up until 1975 (The Rose Bowl). Ole Miss and others pilled on bowl points while teams like Iowa, Wisky, MSU, Minny sat at home. I believe the Pac 10 was much the same way. Notre Dame didn't play in a bowl from 1925-1970.
  23. The schedule point is a very good one. I assume Indiana was locked into some of those games and couldn't get out(Maui for sure, and they aren't gonna give up UK for one year), but that noncon schedule was a horrible thing for a team full of freshmen.
