  1. Derrek Lee really didn't ground into that many DPs relative to chances. EDIT: Ok, he grounded into a decent amount, but not at the absurd rate people seem to think. 15% DP rate, 23rd out of 138 BA title qualifiers.
  2. He should still be good for at least an .800ish OPS, which, when almost everyone in your lineup is likely to do (minus SS) or exceed, makes for a pretty damn good offense. I'm predicting DLee finishes with an OPS of around .720. I'll be happy if he doesn't hit into 20+ dps this year. That's just silly.
  3. I'm taking a basic Meteorology class this semester and my teacher ( , lol) was saying he's pretty sure there is going to be some rain interference for the home opener. Take that for what it's worth but yeah. If we can get Truffle to confirm, I'll definitely believe it.
  4. Was thinking the same exact thing. I think it was Earl Weaver Baseball 2 that had the sign in the game, I thought it was the most realistic thing ever.
  5. Rob Fick never played 2B, and Jim Edmonds is one of the coolest people alive.
  6. Nevermind, saw that wasn't elcaballo but a random quote from brewerfan. The guy was told he was wrong though.
  7. I'm pretty sure ElCaballo was mocking people who had a hissy fit over their celebration.
  8. You just listed 6 ifs for the Cardinals, and said if all 6 happen, the Cubs should still beat them. And that's without any ifs working out for the Cubs. We should coast.
  9. I really like Gonzalez he is one of the top 5 1B IMO. He can potentially be a FA after next year and with Lee's contract up next year I hope we can make a run at him. Gonzalez won't be a free agent til after 2011.
  10. I wrote them off before the season started. Is that ok? So between them and the Cards, you think the Cubs are just going to coast to an easy division title, without question? Yeah, really smart. The Cardinals are the 2nd best team in the division. They're not particularly close to the Cubs. We should win the division by 10 games.
  11. I wrote them off before the season started. Is that ok?
  12. And he costs 30M less. Juan Pierre in CF(and the subsequent smallball stupidity it would bring) probably makes the White Sox a worse team. And that's considering DeWayne Wise is their current CF.
  13. I don't care, Scoop Jackson is still a stupid [expletive].
  14. my favorite part is that half the posters in this thread are crapping on a guy who got on base 3 times and made 1 error instead of a first baseman who isn't hitting, a LF who went hitless got a bad read on a ball and couldn't prevent it from going over his head even though he was playing deep to prevent doubles, and a manager who had his head up his ass for the last 3 innings of the game. Oh, cause my favorite part was that all of those people have been ripped on numerous times in this thread, and you only feel the need to defend the scrappy white guy who must've said hi to you at some minor league game 5 years ago.
  15. Now that I've read through it all, my favorite part of this thread, the (admittedly) minority group that is ripping on Soriano for not running down a double at the wall, while excusing Theriot for having poor range and a poor arm, cause that's not his fault.
  16. I was trying to avoid bringing Ronny into the discussion, but he makes that play either way it goes. Of course he doesn't add much offensively, and I doubt Lou pulls Ryan for him anyway, so it's really moot. But if we're talking hypothetically, having Cedeno in there saves the game. wait you have a problem with theriot's decision making but you're pimping cedeno? Yeah, Ronny probably woulda fielded it, then run out to LF and handed it to Soriano. I don't know what specifically caused your bizarred loathing of Ronny Cedeno or your almost as bizarre mancrush on Ryan Theriot, but I'm really impressed that you're still holding strong to it to this day no matter what the situation.
  17. Can I pin it on Theriot for having the arm strength(and accuracy) of my 3 year old niece) Theriot has played like a solid DH so far this season.
  18. You guys ready to admit that Aaron Miles is history's greatest monster yet, or we still going to cling to his numbers vs. lefties last year? And pulling Vizcaino was the right call at the time because Vizcaino is [expletive] horrible. The issue was walking single A caliber Chris Duffy when a meatball down the pipe would've resulted in a 300 foot flyout.
  19. My point is, I can't ever recall a guy officially getting his scholly pulled followed by a transfer. The most you'll hear is "encouraged to transfer," but be it PR or whatever, you pretty much never hear "scholarship pulled" for anything but discilplinary reasons.
  20. Please. You've never known anyone who sees everything through the prism of personal income? This country's full of them. It doesn't necessarily make him soulless, and I'm sure he felt some grief, but let's not pretend there was no calculation on his part. And you've never known anyone who can be a calculating, manipulative individual in his professional life, but a caring compassionate individual outside the office? People are assuming Boras put on a show because he makes a lot of money.
  21. Hypothetical question: if a kid doesn't have his scholarship renewed, does he still have to sit out a year to play elsewhere? Almost certain this is the case. I think if you petitioned the NCAA you might get a ruling in your favor for hardship. Has this ever happened? Doesn't the kid always transfer before it gets to this? It's kind of a technicality. The scholarship "getting pulled" and the transfer are essentially simultaneous events. The kid can't petition to get the year waived unless he's trying to play somewhere else via transfer.
  22. And I thought I was cynical. This is a kid that Boras knew since he was 17-18 years old, he watched him grow up, mature, and reach the majors, and now he's seen that all taken away from him. He's not a soulless emotionless droid, he's a human being.
  23. Hypothetical question: if a kid doesn't have his scholarship renewed, does he still have to sit out a year to play elsewhere? Almost certain this is the case.
  24. That's McD's All American Wear twins to you. HA
  25. There's also no Torres or Shouse. There is Jorge Julio though.
