  1. Thanks for the link 1908. Looking at it from my perspective, it seems the Bulls are a good matchup for a KG-less Celtics team. They've suffered on the defensive end without him. Who's going to be the Bull that makes the Celtics pay for not having Garnett in the paint? Noah? Gray? Miller? Rose will have a great defender on him in Rose, neutralizing his ability to get to the paint, and Salmons is still hobbled.
  2. Fontenot has 39 PA's and has a .775 OPS with a .385 OBP(numbers rounded cause I closed the calculator window) Bradley has had 25 PA's. Soto has had 15 PA'S. We haven't even played 10 games yet. I agree. What I said was, people that came into the season worried about regressions for those players haven't seen anything so far to calm their fears. My whole post was based on a premise that its way too early to worry, but these are trends I'm seeing. If the Cubs played these 10 games in July, no one would make a big deal out of any of this. There's no such thing as a trend over 15 PAs sandwiched around shoulder soreness.
  3. I wouldn't be that worried if they were 2-7.
  4. Take out Marmol and what is the ERA? 7.00? marmol's not on the team anymore????? We traded him for a real RF.
  5. Aaron Miles: 1-4 No Aaron Miles: 4-0
  6. The closer is a relatively recent invention. Most career closers haven't been retired that long. Additionally, (anecdotally) closers seem to not be 1 team guys(probably a product of nearly all closers being in the free agency era. You're not going to retire a guy's number who played with you for 7 seasons unless you're the White Sox and Harold Baines(The first of 28 times they retired it that is) And Mark Grace leading the 90s in hits might be my most hated stat ever.
  7. Grace was 3rd-4th in line until Dawson/Maddux left. Then he was behind Sandberg til he retired. Then he had maybe 2 years of being the most popular Cub before Sosa took over. Mark Grace does not represent the Cubs in any way.
  8. I'd rather have no MI replacements than Aaron Miles.
  9. Yeah, but he's got a reputation in the media and amongst many of the fans that isn't all that conducive to him going down as a beloved character. If he's the best pitcher on an eventual world series champion, or maybe just an NL champ, it would really help. If Z retires a Cub, he'll go down as beloved. If he winds up elsewhere, he'll be thrown under the bus by all the usual idiots.
  10. It's obviously a long time away, but I don't see how you can say Z isn't "on track" to get his # retired. He'd have to pitch his entire career with the Cubs, and keep up the same level of performance, but if those 2 giant ifs came to pass he'd be a hall of famer and an easy # retiring.
  11. I wonder if Rivers is holding out KG to save him for that series. Risky to take the Bull series for granted, but considering they'll need him to beat Orlando, it's not a terrible idea.
  12. Ray Allen isn't a stud defender, but I really doubt he's worried about Kirk Hinrich going off on him.
  13. It doesn't matter. i don't know, boston was pretty terrible before he came to town. There are like 2 players on Boston from the '06-'07 season.
  14. Yeah, I was operating under the assumption that people in this organization will stop being douchebags at some point and will retire 21. Grace doesn't deserve it.
  15. It's a shame, I think the Bulls actually had a fighting chance against the Magic, and I'd have a couple series to be interested in.
  16. Agreed. I'll try to keep myself in check, but it would really take an epic DRose effort to pull this off.
  17. That's Mateo's final line. Josh Vitters gets an infield single in his first at bat for Peoria. 2 singles now. call him up. And this one out of the infield! plus colvin has a walk and stolen base tonight. i'd say tim wilken has some vindication. I knew I should've been obnoxious to you about Wieters sucking his 1st 3 games.
  18. They're stingy because they've been terrible for the better part of the last 60 years. Who's # do you think should have been retired? (post WWII guys only, they're not going to retire the # for a guy who's can't be there to watch it.) Who are the biggest snubs right now? Hartnett, Cavaretta, Hack, Grace, and Reuschel? Other than Hartnett(who never kept up a # for more than 4 years, and didn't have one for half his career) who's being snubbed? Stan Hack was a great Cub and probably a top 20 3B of all time, but I wouldn't say it's a crime that his number isn't retired. Cavaretta is much the same story. Both put up their best numbers during WWII as well, which kinda puts a damper on things. Grace? Pass. Reuschel doesn't really have an argument, but I felt the need to put some pitcher on the list. These guys are all fine to put their banner up on the councourse, recognize them as great Cubs, but they're not retired # good.
  19. I think Aramis would need some defining moment beyond finishing his career as a Cub. He's not really appreciated like he should be.
  20. they must be stupid if they picked that major He already said they went to LSU.
  21. No that's Ron Powlus. whatever, they both suck For what it's worth Powlus was pretty good in college, I think. He was awful in the NFL, though. Yeah, Powlus gets a lot of crap because he was supposed to be the greatest thing ever and just ended up being pretty good (Beano Cook and Brent Musburger's speculation of "how many Heismans?" didn't help). He held most of the career passing records at ND before Brady Quinn came along, though. While running the [expletive] option half the time he was on the field.
  22. PJ Walters sounds like somebody King Kong Bundy beat in 32 seconds.
  23. Jimmy's probably a better defensive CF than Podsednik, so if it's between those 2, absolutely. They should really just stick Anderson out there for 2 months, and bat him 9th. Dye is a horrendous defender, and IIRC, Quentin is nothing special in LF. They really just need somebody to cover 2/3 of the OF for them in CF.
