  1. He does have serious old man that I'll hate listening to potential.
  2. We'll be up 13-0 by the 3rd anyway so they'll just call it. As long as 2015 Eli Marrero gruesomely breaks his leg.
  3. Yep. Why is it so hard to understand that they refuse to trade top prospects in a year where they know a lot would have to go really right to win the WS AND they have the budget to sign guys in the offseason while giving up, at most, a draft pick? Luckily the next few years we'll have a 50-50 shot of winning the WS. Let's all say a prayer that we don't have to lose the 22nd overall draft pick. Losing it could tank our farm system for years to come. I can't. I just can't. Don't spend money now because it might handicap us in 2021 is the new don't try now because then it might handicap us in 2017.
  4. I don't see why we need to get next year's starter taken care of now. If we're happy with our top 4 as is, why not get a rental and then swing our big market dong around and sign Price or Greinke? I mean I know the answer is that we're not going to swing our big market dong around until 2020, but it's still what we should be doing.
  5. Good God-did you even read what I wrote? You don't have to for a [expletive] rental. There's more than enough that I listed to grab you any rental out there. If we're trading for a guy with control-I don't care if Schwarber or Soler is moved honestly. Pretty sure he was responding to CubinNY who used the direct quote about hurting the long term in a major way.
  6. Gorzelanny has that special brand of south side face that can't be out-uglied. Unless you're Otis Nixon.
  7. CCP described it better than I did. I want to upgrade, and hopefully a good opportunity to do so presents itself, but the unusual set of circumstances we're in makes an 'all-in' type move seem unlikely. If we do get the opportunity for a kick-ass asset at a reasonable price, even if that price includes one of our top guys, I hope Theo goes for it. Right now, we're definitely in a seller's market, though. Prices aren't going to necessarily be reasonable, and we're likely going to be in the wild-card game anyway. I can't deal with another 3 months of this. What would you have us do given that any pitcher we would acquire only has a 50/50 chance of actually pitching for us in a playoff game (presuming we don't start said pitcher in the WC game)? I'd sell off our soon to be FAs to build up the farm system.

  9. Amaro is in charge in name only now. MacPhail will decide the Hamels return.
  10. Punching AJ alphabet went a really long way toward endearing him to me. That, and we had no idea how bad he really was at defense at that point. Hey, defense shmefense. Fangraphs has his WAR at 2.3, 2.9 and 2.3. his 3 full years with the Cubs and BR has him at 1.5, 2.0 and 2.3. Ain't no shame in liking Barrett. Plus, there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxQkEwKgEyc He was the lovable dope we all hope Lilly is.
  11. I'm sure it'll be Beeler. You get the 26th roster spot for DHs, so no demotion would be necessary.
  12. Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. They don't need to win the division to win the freakin' WS. Would you rather her say '[expletive] it, let's splurge. Schwarber and Edwards for the earthly remains of Ichiro!' 'Is Chase Utley still alive? He is? You want Rubi Silva and Brian Schlitter? Well that just won't do. You'll take Pierce Johnson and I won't hear any more of it!' GFD IT you are a GD moron.
  13. We have 80 guys in our pen And everyone's getting a 4 day rest in a week.
  14. Quite a bit? This new BN-esque narrative that has sprung up regarding well, it's just a 1 game playoff so there's no real sense in making tangible improvements is infuriating. It's not that it's just a one game playoff. And I haven't seen any narrative but I don't read bn much anymore. It's that we might be like 85% for one or something at the trade deadline with little hope of a division title Check the edit. And just because playoffs are close to a crapshoot, it doesn't mean it's worthless to try to push it from 50-50 to 55-45.
  15. Quite a bit? This new BN-esque narrative that has sprung up regarding well, it's just a 1 game playoff so there's no real sense in making tangible improvements is infuriating. ETA: Playoff odds are far from an exact science at this point of the year. The Cubs went up 10.3% in the last 7 days. The Giants fell off 16.5%
  16. Chills. Hopefully he apologizes to the franchise for these soon.
  17. I didn't see anything about this posted, but may have missed it with the weekend: Epstein: Cubs won't necessarily be buyers Hoping this is just a smokescreen, and not prospect hoarding.
  18. Probably. But he was killin it in AAA so far this year. K rate is low, but still good numbers. He's better than Roach (all that matters) and I don't see how that's arguable at all. Roach and Richard have eerily similar AAA lines this year.
  19. TM SH PIT 36 ATL 31 MIA 31 WSN 30 ARI 28 CIN 28 MIL 26 PHI 25 LAD 24 AVG 24 SFG 23 SDP 21 STL 19 COL 18 CHC 13 NYM 13
  20. All the Marlins best bats are lefties, so this is a better matchup for this specific game. But Clayton Richard is terrible.
  21. Montero is awful vs. LHP, why would he not be batting 8th?
  22. What advantages does this Clayton Richard have over say a Dallas Beeler, which we could also afford?
