  1. So, I guess he had to clear waivers? And, if the Yanks knew Boston just wanted him to help in the series this weekend, why didn't they block it if they could? Maybe they think he stinks. Or maybe I don't know the rules.
  2. The loosing streaks had very little to do with pitching and much more to do with the inconsistent offense. In loosing streaks of over 5 games the Cubs have averaged a paltry 2.59 runs per game. The offense hurt, no doubt. I just thought going into the year that with three stoppers in the starting rotation we'd avoid bad streaks. Of course, the three stoppers were only in the starting rotation at the same time for about a week.
  3. Going into the year, with the Cub pitching staff (on paper), I thought they would avoid extended losing streaks like those easily.
  4. Could he have borrowed any supplements from other teammates as well? :-k
  5. 1. Take your time. It's not a race. 2. Bring protection 3. Let your partner know that it's you first time Wait, what are we talking about again? Raw, don't forget- 4. Leave the cash on the nightstand.
  6. I just looked at both schedules. As you said, the Sox and Indians go head to head 6 times. On those 7 days the Indians play the Royals, the Sox play the Twins. That leaves one other series- Sox have the Tigers and Indians have the Devil Rays. This could certainly come down to the last weekend.
  7. I thought it was when they interviewed a charectar from a beer commercial (while he was still in charectar) during the World Series. ConstableRabbit don't remember dat. It was Leon from the Bud commercials. I know it was Leon, I was making a parody of him by speaking in the first person. Wade thinks you mean third person.
  8. It's been well documented that Nomar has for years had a very stringent off-season fitness program. It's in spite of working out, not because of shirking workouts, that Nomar is oft-injured.
  9. Very well played. Indeed it was...smashing. How I ever beat JC to that comment we'll never know!
  10. I read where he said he wasn't sure how they got into his ears in the first place.
  11. How far did you fling it?
  12. It's the best thing to do. Wood's best value is as a starter and he needs surgery to get to that for 2006. I wouldn't let Prior or Zambrano have over a 100 pitch game the rest of the way. Oh yeah, I would seriously think about shutting down Ramirez if he looks at all like he could injure himself further.
  13. I think the main thing about his (Beane's) philosophy is to find what other clubs are undervalueing, and pursue good players with those traits. As the rest of the baseball world starts valueing OBP more, those players make more money and price themselves out of the A's budget. So Beane, being a good G.M., may focus on defense more in an effort to find quality players at a more affordable price. I read an article on this months ago, but can't find it now.
  14. Holy cow, I thought Auggiedoggie was back to tell us Walker doesn't turn enough double plays!

I like him and he's pretty young still. There's a good chance he'll improve at least a little defensively in the next couple of years.
  16. Even though it didn't work, Zambrano's attempted hike to Lee, whereafter he fell on his backside. If the "throw" would have beaten the runner, it'd be the play of the year in all of sports.
  17. Think about it. Over the 2004 and 2005 seasons, the Cubs had invested close to $18M in Remlinger, Hawkins and Borowski. That amount would have paid for Jeff Kent. I know - it's not an apples to apples comparison. Just think if they'd of signed Benitez or Percival this year and had to deal with their injuries and expense. Yikes.
  18. Not only is he performing poorly, the move could be considered addition by subtraction with the coach not having him around to put in against left handed hitters.
  19. I'm really hoping Nomar can turn things around and stay healthy. He has been incredibly easy to root for despite being injured and producing below his career norms in his time with the Cubs. I hope a mutually beneficial contract can be worked out for next year to give him one more try at a healthy season.
  20. I think there is one major key if the Cubs are to sneak into the wildcard. Let me preface that by pointing out that several other things will have to come together, i.e. Kerry Wood being good in the pen, Williamson being good in the pen, Ohman and Dempster staying pretty good in the pen, and most of the hitters doing what they should do (new guy get on base, Lee, Burny, Rammy drive him in). The big thing though, and what I firmly believe has to happen for a miracle run is Nomar has to come back and light it up for the next 60 games. He'll be an upgrade over Neffi offensively, but for this team to finish anywhere around 90 wins he's going to have to be crazy good. Can he do it? Talent to hit I say yes, health-wise I hope yes.
  21. If true, wow. Right after a big milestone, too.
  22. Saber, the Detroit Free Press confirmed that the Tigers decided to trade Farnsworth after his agent wouldn't even counter what was deemed a pretty good offer to stay in Detroit. They said that Farns wanted to take advantage of being a free agent. Of course, it also stated that Farns is from Georgia and has always wanted to be a Brave, so he may very well end up with Atlanta for the next three years. http://www.freep.com/sports/tigers/tigcorner1e_20050801.htm
  23. I agree with the previous two posts. I look for Farnsworth to really excel down there. He was already doing pretty good this year.
  24. Burnitz busted it down the line on a big chopper back to the pitcher. Because of that, after Tomko threw the ball away, Burny was able to make it all the way to third. Impossible to do, had he given up on the play too early. Of course he was stranded there, but that is for another thread.
