  1. A lot will be made about the injury to Pujols (and that is a big deal), but I believe the real key to the Cardinals staying closer to the pack this year is their pitching, or rather, the lack thereof. Their bullpen is not nearly as good this year as it has been the past few, and clearly, Isringhausen's skills have declined. They'll still finish ahead of the Cubbies, IMO, but I don't think they'll be running away and hiding this year. Actually, now that the Reds are showing some mettle, I don't see them running away with it either.
  2. So, for comparison purposes, what do you think about Dempster? Have you watched him this year? He's got a 0.69 WHIP. He's not making it even remotely interesting. I was just looking for KyHen's opinion.

  4. Sure was... I remember that. If you ever get a chance to see the replay, watch it. There were two outs in the ninth inning, and a 2-2 count on the hitter, and Froemming called ball three (which was a strike, IMO). Ball four was debatable, as it was very borderline, but really, why would you even call that a ball? The way Pappas was throwing that day, it was just unbelievable that Froemming would squeeze the plate on him with two outs in the ninth inning. Pappas went off on him, but luckily for Pappas, Froemming could not speak greek, so Pappas did not get booted. Even if Pappas said his peace in english, I don't believe it would have been right to kick him out. I mean really, the guy had a perfect game at Wrigley Field taken away from him. He did get the no-no, but still... a no-hitter with one walk with two outs in the ninth inning? What was up with that? I've hated Froemming ever since.
  5. I think that is run by Major League Baseball, I don't think the Cubs themselves really have anything to say about its content or anything. This is a quality board, with quality fans. Why wouldn't the Cubs want to get a little closer to this part of their fanbase? It's good business for the Cubs. Great job nsbb!!!!!
  6. This thread reminds me of threads on CardsTalk. For any other posters not familiar with CardsTalk, the comparison I just made is not very flattering to this thread. Please, lock it.
  7. You realize that the pitcher did the showboating first, right? Pujols didn't start this thing. If a batter showboats, you expect your pitcher to retaliate. So when a pitcher showboats, shouldn't you expect the batter to retaliate? Yes, no, and no. Just because one person acts like an idiot does not give someone else the right to do the same without repercussions. Do you think it does? Why? If someone stole my truck, does that give me the right to steal theirs? Two wrongs don't make a right, ever. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're human. Whatever. Doesn't make it right, and it doesn't excuse it - period!
  8. I really liked Pujols when he broke in to MLB. Now...., not so much. Whether he is a jerk or not, I don't know, but his actions when everyone is watching make him look like an arrogant poseur. Please, don't throw out some other player's name and ask me what I think of them. I am referring to Pujols, and Pujols only with this comment. I would never advocate throwing at a player with intent to harm, however, Mr. Pujols better look out for some chin music next time he faces Perez - efforts at truce notwithstanding. I mean really, the players are into machismo, and showboating waaayyyy to much. It should be about the game, and the team, IMO, not about me myself and I. I know, times have changed, but not necessarily for the better. Also, it doesn't mean things have to stay this way.
  9. These are Cub fans...., yes..., and masochists too.
  10. Probably. Not on the first ballot, but his body of work, IMO, is HOF-worthy. The big question is will his HOF plaque have eyeliner?
  11. This sounds like me. I was yelling at the TV "C'mon, how but just a two-run single!!!!!", and then boom, two seconds later, Murton hits a two run single. After that, I was complaining about how Jones is having trouble staying above the Mendoza line, and then boom! It doesn't always work though..... :x
  12. Oh no way!! Bynum's hitting game...., not so much hitting.
  13. So, what about the breezes? It did appear that the ball carries better than it did in the concrete doughnut.
  14. Reading your post makes me really glad I don't live in Festus, Missouri. snood, have you ever been to Festus? I have, and you're right!
  15. Then they get humble....
  16. Do you mean that the Cardinal fans convinced the players to vote for them? Nope.
  17. You can convince yourself of anything if you try hard enough. And really, you don't have to try that hard if you were predisposed to believing it already. Before the poll came out, [and BTW, a poll is a popularity thing that doesn't necessarily act as a true indicator of quality (e.g. "American Idol" is incredibly popular, with many, many pollsters)] many Saint Louisans considered their fan base superior. This is first hand experience speaking here - I actually lived in enemy territory for 3+ years (Creve Coeur for a year, and South City for the rest). Believe me, the poll just provided some confirmation for what alot of these folks already believed.
  18. It is indeed the best website for Cubs talkin'. Welcome!
  19. Walks just clog up the basepaths.
  20. If this statement shows up over there, attributed to you, they will skewer you, thereby proving your point. Oh, the irony of it all.....
  21. I think we could make a case for Kerry Wood. Yeah, he's been hurt, but bottom line, his production has fallen wayyy short of that fat contract.
  22. The best fans in baseball are not confined to one city or fan-base. They are everywhere. JMHO Edit - same thing with the worse fans.
  23. I can't stand that...., and the Packers' fans referring to Green Bay as "Titletown, USA". To be fair...you guys have "Chitown"....and I hear Chickletsville is pretty annoyed about that.

  25. And he punched a kid in the face on his way back to the dugout. A crippled orphan, to be exact. Edmonds is such a prick. I've read that somewhere else before........ I've also heard he is unprofessional.
