  1. I really don't want to imagine a scenario where the latter two are starting in CF for us. Make a trade so I don't even have to ponder the possibility.
  2. Well, this thread has gone to hell. Predictable.
  3. What red flags in terms of teammates hating him? That's like the one thing Bradley didn't have a problem with before he was signed. And who gives a [expletive] what that awful midget at SS thinks? He's been the only guy to seem to not like Bradley, and it's hardly like he speaks for the team. Jeesh, lay off Theriot. According to Bruce Miles everyone affiliated with the Cubs wanted Bradley gone.
  4. I'd have preferred to take Burrell and keep him, honestly. I'd obviously rather have Burrell than Silva but we probably wouldn't have gotten any salary relief with Burrell that we get with this deal. Plus, I think it's easier to bury a pitcher like Silva in the David Patton role than keep a horrible fielder like Burrell on the bench. It's a crap deal but it was probably the least crap deal out there.
  5. Well, I guess it's better than taking Burrell and then having to flip him somwhere too. Now we can just let Silva rot in the pen and sign Marlon Byrd with the extra cash. It sucks for sure but it could've been worse.
  6. Cubs weren't getting Granderson, guys. The 3 way deal was much more than we could've realistically offered.
  7. Well, he does have a nice arm.....
  8. He was the most attractive of the free agent options. Hopefully Hendry has trade on his mind to fill the CF hole instead of the remaining free agents.
  9. I'd rather have Dempster at his deal than Lackey at this price. Vastly overpaid but the Red Sox can get away with it. Stuff like this is why I'm hesitant to anoint Epstein as a genius. He gives out a ton of huge contracts.
  10. Phils must have thought that Lee wasn't going to re-sign. They lock up an ace now instead of waiting until next off-season to see if they could re-sign Lee. Hard to really argue with it. I'm wondering what Toronto gets back here. I don't recall Seattle really having a loaded farm system. My guess is one of the Phillies top prospects is also in this.
  11. According to Fangraphs he was worth $8.2 million. Their dollar figures are a bunch of crap.
  12. That ship has sailed. The Cubs obviously feel they can no longer have Bradley on their team. Whether that's a smart decision is debatable, but that's the decison they have made.
  13. Sanchez is the only guy on that list I would take Harden over.
  14. I'd trade Zambrano for one of those guys. Place a call Jim.
  15. the MARINERS shot it down??? that means hendry was clearly going to do it but the mariners didn't want to. RICKETTS FIRE THIS BUM NOW. You forgot that Hendry was also planning on signing Silva to a 5 year extension. And he's fat.
  16. It looks like this thing is gaining momentum. Let's hope it's done by the end of the meetings. Unless we get Silva.
  17. His well publicized mockery of the use of advanced metrics in decision making, and strict adherence to small-ball philosophies that are more likely to cost our team runs (and wins) than gain any. His knowledge of the game makes him seem like he'd be a wonderful coach, but he shouldn't be allowed to make any decisions about strategy or personnel. I hear ya. Trammell seems like a good option. I wouldn't mind seeing if Dave Duncan wanted to try the managing gig either.
  18. Why are we supposed to hate Sandberg, again?
  19. Wow. Anyone who thought Josh Byrnes was a rising star two years ago probably feels pretty stupid right about now.
  20. Would Burrell really be all that bad? He was terrible last year but he had been very good in his career up until 2009. At the very least he could start against lefties and be a power bat off the bench.
  21. What do you really expect from a backup catcher? The guy caught a million games in a row last year yet still was rock solid behind the plate. He's a good guy to have on the team.
  22. I don't buy that. Lou was talking him up in the SunTimes article, which to me is a pretty clear indication the Cubs are very interested in Cameron.
  23. Hill is perfectly fine as a backup. He's very good defensively and even had a decent year with the bat. Bring him back.
  24. Hendry is not working on a limited budget. He's working with a huge budget. It's his fault that he tied up so much money as to make it tight already while the team is still in need of upgrades. And it doesn't help that part of that budget is being spent to pay people to play elsewhere, peole he foolishly guaranteed contracts to when it was well known that the team was for sale and future payrolls were in doubt. I don't think the Cubs really have any outrageous contracts other than Soriano. And I've always believed Soriano was a desperation publicity move by the Trib in their waning days. Bad contacts given by Hendry are as follows; Zambrano, Soriano, Fukudome, Miles (ta ta), Grabow, Hawkins, Eyre, Howry, Jones, Blanco, Neifi, Burnitz, Remlinger That's all that comes to mind. *current roster* Forgot about Fuku. I don't think Grabow or Zambrano have outrageous deals.
