  1. Glad Colvin is getting a chance against a tough lefty. Might as well throw him to the wolves and see how he responds.
  2. Josh Lewin from Texas and FOX is quite good. Good to see Brennaman in the bottom 5. The only guy in broadcasting who gets on his soap box more than Joe Buck.
  3. Man, if A-Ram was his usual self we'd probably be 3 or 4 games better than we are. 5 or 6 wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, but now at 9 back we've built ourselves quite a hole.
  4. Castro continues to really impress. Not sure if the home run power will come but he looks to be a good bet to have quite a few extra base hits.
  5. Wilken knows his stuff. He stays. Hendry and Lou are both gone. Rothschild and Jaramillo both stay. I wouldn't mind giving Trammel a shot as manager.
  6. because what he did in AA two years ago could be indicative of how he plays in chicago. is that such a hard concept to wrap your head around? Colvin became better at baseball in his early 20's. It's not that shocking.
  7. I don't know why any fan would give a crap what Tyler Colvin did in AA two years ago. He's in Chicago now and playing well.
  8. Law: Micah Gibbs at 97 is a STEAL for the Cubs
  9. It's tough to wait in the MLB draft. Teams take flyers pretty liberally in the supp and 2nd rounds. Although it certainly seems plausible that Simpson would have been there in the 2nd round in this situation.
  10. Keith Law tweet: Reactions I'm getting to Cubs pick: "Not a priority guy for us" ... "Not in our top 200" ... "Rounds 4-5" (corrected)
  11. Yeah, looks like he's a righty. That tempers my enthusiasm. We have to remember as well that there are plenty of picks left. Even if Simpson doesn't pan out a couple of mid round steals overcomes that.
  12. Now that I've worn off from the shock, it's nice to get a lefty starter in the system. Let's hope Wilken isn't trying to outsmart everyone and really sees something in Simpson.
  13. WTF was my first reaction but I guess Wilken gets a little benefit of the doubt.
  14. No, they didn't. McGehee wasn't any good in the minors. Him turning into a productive player is a fluke that not even the Brewers saw coming. They were probably hoping he could be a decent utility man for a year or two.
  15. Looks like he just lost it over the off-season. He's always been a major league pitcher. Sure hasn't resembled one this year, however.
  16. Regardless of how you feel they are being handled, it's nice to have exciting young talent like Castro, Cashner, and Jackson. Last year at this time I didn't think we'd see arguments on how several minor leaguers were going to be used at the major league level.
  17. They feel Cashner can help the big league club. They don't have an opening in the rotation. They have problems in late relief. They may feel young pitchers should be eased into the big leagues. Don't overthink it.
  18. Spare me the outrage. Both Jackson and Cashner look to be ready for the big leagues. There is no room in the rotation and the Cubs have problems in late inning relief. It would be a waste of both guys if they left them down in Iowa for the whole year just for the sake of them never having to come out of the bullpen. There is also obviously the school of thought that most young pitchers should start as relievers in the big leagues. If the Cubs don't have plans to have them start again then you have something to rail against, but not now IMO.
  19. Anyone think Pablo Sandoval is a decent comp for Vitters? Doesn't walk much but has very good contact skills and above average power?
  20. Terrible contract given out by Shapiro, the most overrated GM in recent memory. Wouldn't surprise me if this was it for Wood. He hinted at retirement in the past when he was injured constantly with the Cubs.
  21. What's the story on Campana? Having a big year in AA.
  22. How many games do we have to win before we're the Cubs again?
  23. Not to rain on the Castro parade but how about Soto? Even the outs are crushed.
